Loved my experience with this book seller! The books I ordered came in better than described condition. Shipping was prompt and my books arrived with no damage. I saved a ton by purchasing their preowned/used books and I trust this seller, so I will be back again. Thank you!
I ordered a book the title is Masashi the book in the advertisement on this company's website Better World Books shows the dust cover and says nothing in the description of the book arriving without the dust cover which unfortunately it did. I consider this to be a bait and switch and type of fraud I would not trust this company find another outlet for purchasing the books you have in mind but avoid this company their return policy is ridiculous and you basically get nothing back.
I’ve ordered several books from Better World Books over the past two months. Unfortunately I won’t order from them again. Each time, the book had a sticker on the spine with their internal-use barcode, which I assume is for their own inventory and order processing. Well almost every time this sticker damaged my book spine! They use a high-tack adhesive which you cannot remove without irreparably taking a layer of the book cover with it. Glossy dust jackets can be spared, but paperbacks and paper dust jackets will suffer, and end up looking like beat-up ex-library books, so unnecessarily. As a collector of books, this is unacceptable to me. It tells me they put their own convenience above the customer’s interests. It demonstrates a self-centred, inconsiderate, “not my problem, it’s their problem” attitude which I cannot support. It would probably cost them nothing to switch to a low-tack adhesive but evidently they don’t care. I buy a lot of books. To lose my business after getting me onboard shows how poorly-designed their operational model is.
I ordered from the UK site and was disappointed to find that they ship weighty hardbacks internationally with only a plastic bag for packaging. There was no other protection (e.g., insulation, backer boards, etc.) to prevent cover damage from common transit mishaps (e.g., drops, collisions with heavier mail pieces, et al).
I ordered three books that I wanted to add to my collection. Upon receiving the first one, I was horrified to see there was a big ugly sticker right on the binding. and also someone's name written and stamped on the first page. None of this was mentioned in their listing. Not thinking, I tried to remove the sticker only to partially rip the cover. I emailed them asking if all of their books have this huge, ugly sticker on them only to be told that they do. I said to cancel the other two. was told they were already shipped but if I want to return them, I would have to pay for shipping.Do not buy books from these people unless you don't care about a big ugly sticker right on the binding that apparently can be removed with a hair dryer what a joke.
Ordered a book from the picture and title - a 20th anniversiary edition Extended edition - What I got was one of the earlier copies without the extended content. Not the version of the book I wanted. When I complained they said it was the same ISBN number so they had "fulfilled" the order.
I ordered a first edition book from Ergodebooks. I was sent a rebound college library book, from Better World Books. They denied my request for a refund/return. Biblio, the online bookstore forced them to give me a refund. They wanted the book returned but would not send me a prepaid return label. Now, over a month later, they continue to send me harassing emails to return the book. Biblio told them to send me a label but they have not. I will never do business with Ergodebooks or Better World Books again.
This is one of those cases where I wish I could rate my experience as zero star. I ordered a Bergman biography from Betterworld books using Abebooks website. I had the paperback but wanted a hardback copy which is more durable and has photos. They described the book as in " very good condition". But when I received the book there was a horrible label with a bar code on the spine of the dust case of the book. Who wants to put a book like that on a shelf ? It's an insult to the artist who designed the dust jacket. It's an insult to the buyer . And it damages the book. They used one of those cheap labels which don't peel off. I contacted "Better World" and complain about it. Their flippant response was " oh, use a hair dryer". It might remove the label. " I don't have a hair dryer. And even if I had a way to remove the label then it would leave a clearly visible mark because of the cheap glue. I could live with that if the label was on the back of the book where it should be to begin with. But that would be too much work for the "betterworlders". They would have to remove a book from the shell in order to check its label so they just put it on the spine of the book with no regard for the book or customers. It's a philistine practice. They sent me a free post address to send the book back but ignored my request to refund the faster shipping I had paid for. The book is faulty. The very shop "Better World" admitted that the book was not as described" I almost forgot. The "betterworlders" also wrote on the book. It's written with a pencil but I know that any erasing will still leave signs of the writing as it is not 'fresh". It's a modern thing this use of names to signal virtue whilst doing the opposite of what ones preaches. "Our shop is called better world because we believe in a better world. Congratulations to us!" The damaging of the book, the insulting response to a complaint, the disregard for the artist who designed the cover, the disregard for the customer they mislead. They don't matter because we are called "Better world'.
