Customer service was second to none, they were so helpful when I spoke to them about my awkward windows in my old Victorian house. Shutters arrived earlier than expected and the delivery driver was so lovely.
We were super pleased with the quality and ease of putting them up, at first we were looking for the instructions manically but everything is online so make sure you realise like this. Once up they finished the room of beautifully and we are beyond pleased with them. Would definitely use this company again when we buy another house. We are sold! Thank you California shutters ☺️

Delighted with our California, cafe style shutters - the manufacturing quality and precision is excellent. Each shutter was well packaged, clearly labelled and had plenty of hardware. We fitted without issue. They’ve transformed our home. Our son had previously used California Shutters, and highly recommended them - each shutter is bespoke and made to order. They take a couple of months to arrive, however patience is rewarded by the quality you receive.Thank you.
I've got loads of good things to say about the company after buying twice from them; each time white hard wood with mid rail and hidden connecting rods. I read with interest a one star review that was all about either measuring incorrectly or not following instructions (or both). I am not a professional but a keen and competent do it yourselfer of (now 73 years). My first order several years ago at the home I have just moved from, was for fifteen windows, which included three windows in each of two bays and French Doors. On measuring, I decided that it might be too gappy so I deliberately didn't follow the contractual advice given by the company and halved the figure you are advised to subtract. On receiving the shutters (on time and perfect) I went about installing (which I did in two days). I should have taken that contractual advice, as the fit was inevitably too snug. I was lucky as the house was a new build with dot and dab plasterboard and as I had bought the front of reveal type shutter, in probing the corner of the reveal found it had a metal band on the external and internal corner. The window reveals were remarkably square and all I had to do was peel the band off the inside of the reveal and a little bit of sanding and the frames all went in square (more by luck than judgement). Result happiness. Never had any problem s with the shutters in about seven years. Moved house November; another new build. This time on checking the company website, the measuring instructions were the same. This time (having learnt from my previous experience), I followed the measuring instructions to the letter. I received the order (ordered late November ETA mid to late February, came on time, fun tracking the container on the app). The order was complete, delivery as notified packaging exceptional. Unpacked each frame into its room. There was one very small window, which I did first. It fell into the reveal with the merest of heel of hand pushes, screws in, shutters pinned in, result happiness. I repeated this with the next six windows (one of which was inside the reveal) with no problems. My problem came with the kitchen window (the most awkward getting up on the worktop etc). I'd put the kitchen order on last as initially I was going to leave it as it's a nice bright kitchen and the windows are a good style. While I cogitated and waited for an upcoming sale (Black Friday perhaps?), I went off and measured five rooms to have sliding mirror wardrobes installed. That company wanted the full size of the intended space, floor to ceiling, side to side and whether it had an end panel. They wanted the full measurement and that is because their programme algorithms need a bit of complexity to facilitate the design (they're all in with no problems because I followed their instructions). Back to my California Shutter order and I didn't get the full size thing out of my head and as a consequence didn't make the contractual deduction. I've pretty much got away with it as again it's a new build with dot and dab plaster but a bit messier. It was only one out of eight but whatever my reasoning it was just carelessness and unnecessary. A salutary lesson then; California Shutters, like every other supplier of anything, has a contract with it's suppliers, it's staff and it's customers. If we all play our part correctly the result is nothing short of spectacular. The construction method is clever and easy, the finish is superb and the service quite remarkable. They've upgraded a few things. Nice long coarse thread screws, a ready mitred bead all round the inside of the frame hiding the screw holes and a variety of plastic cover plugs to hide any of the other holes. My thanks to Alex in Customer Services who quickly resolved a minor issue for me. Well done to the team.
This is my honest and completely transparent experience, as a kitchen and bathroom fitter I have extensive knowledge of fitting furniture items etc, however this is my experience, I took my measurements and submitted my order, at 9pm Sunday evening, then thought I better double check my measurements Monday at 8am , I did re check my measurements as measure twice cut once, yes the measurements differed which I double checked by a couple of mm, however I emailed straight away to California blinds to make my amendments and this could not be altered, I have never heard so much rubbish I. All my life, order placed 9am Sunday evening, asked to alter 9am Monday morning and told this was not possible as order is already in production, what a crock of sh*t, so my advise to anyone ordering blinds do not give them actual measurements what they actually ask for, as they do not take off a couple of mm all around which in my opinion would be the logical thing to do, they make them ti the measurements given, so anyone ordering, take your internal window measurement and and take 3mm off what you submit for ease of fitting, this small gab can be made up on the internal window measurement die reveal with dec caulk , - so just be careful when sending the easements as they do not take anything off and if your out by couple of mm it can be hard to get them to fit, luckily I know how to use a rail saw and got them to fit , also the delivery lead time they tell You when ordering is rubbish, I placed my order early November for delivery 8th Jan 2026, eventually arrived 5th Feb over a month late, so bare this in mind if your requiring your blinds by a specific date 👍
I had a query about my shutters, I messaged Amy from the team at California Shutters and she couldn’t have been more helpful. My query was sorted quickly and the pieces that I need to maintain my shutters are being sent to me promptly. Amy’s customer service was first rate. Thank you Amy!
I previously purchased shutters from California Shutters and was impressed with the quality, which is why I placed another order. Unfortunately, this second experience has been extremely disappointing. Two shutters ordered for the same guest room and installed side by side have visibly different frame widths, with a difference of approximately 4.5 cm, making them look completely mismatched and frankly unacceptable from an aesthetic point of view. The company’s response was that this was due to a 5 mm difference in window height, something no reasonable customer would expect to result in such a drastic visual discrepancy.Despite acknowledging the issue, customer service refused any refund or replacement, stating that the shutters were “manufactured correctly” and placing full responsibility on the customer. There was no clear warning at the point of ordering that such a small measurement difference could lead to such a poor visual outcome. In my view, this falls short of reasonable customer expectations for a premium, made-to-measure (and expensive) product. I am very disappointed with both the product outcome and the way the complaint was handled, and I would not order from them again.
