Very polite and efficient advice from the online chat advisor, Daniel Bardos.I'd definitely use Drivalia, and the chat system, if I ever needed to book a vehicle again in the future. Highly impressed (and cheaper than their own website!!)
I booked through easyJet. Arrived 45 mins late due to late flight. Told that the car I ordered was no longer available ( should have contacted them apparently as soon as I knew it was late which is difficult from an airplane. I could wait an hour and a half or pay an extra £22 a day for a bigger car. Money on credit card actually removed from account ( as opposed to held) for a month apparently. Whole thing felt like a real scam.
A lovely team ...last few hires dealt with Ici ...but she wasn't around for this occasion so dealt with Marshall..awesome service ..have read some of the poor reviews and sadly these are usually down to not being prepared ..not reading full terms and conditions before turning up..and let's face it..the hire charges are cheap so of course they gonna want to upsell and of course they gonna make sure you're properly covered..cos it means they are..doesn't really make sense for them to let you drive away with a 25K car for £30 a day hire charge ...but if you are prepared with everything..and accept they just doing their job ..because im sure if they weren't thorough and cars got written off without appropriate covers in place they wouldn't be in a job .. it seems a really hectic pressure job ...I wouldn't want it ...but the team at Edinburgh airport are friendly approachable and I have only witnessed polite behaviour...and i praise them up even though my first hire meant I had to pay the daily insurance charge but only because I'd not read everything properly...so wasn't their fault...but mine..my best advice is be prepared for a wait..it gets busy and they have to cross t's and dot i's to ensure they've covered the expensive cars they are letting go for silly money..I'm prepared now with hires...no nasty surprises or charges..but if there was it'd be because I'd missed something ...read the terms and conditions ..they really are nice people doing a not so nice job the best way they can...and thanks Marshall you've taken crown from Ici ..for now !!!
Do not use Drivalia, there are lots of hidden costs and you will be strong-armed into paying a lot more. The hire fees are only cheap because they you either:-leave a massive £1500 deposit (which they keep for 28 days)-or if you can't afford that, which many of us can't, you have to buy the £35 (per day I believe?) in-house insurance to waive that fee.The manager was fairly hostile when I questioned this and just claimed it was 'the business model'. The whole atmosphere was shady, with lots of customers around me being placated about insurance issues they'd had and being sold things they didn't want. Avoid.
If I was booking.com I would be worried for my reparation for recommending this Drivalia at Edinburgh airport. Just shocking service. Each person waiting for a car had done so for an hour to an hour and a half., This included people who were returning cars. They were disorganised asking for ridiculous amounts of paperwork including two forms of ID and proof of address and a utility bill. Use them at your peril, they lure you in with a cheap price and offer you sub standard service which cost you more emotionally. Even their coach driver said he had seen people come away without cars that were booked, complaints that cars were filthy being handed over, people missing their flights. I have written to booking.com to get them struck off!!!!
