Was worried about getting an accurate reading from a normal blood pressure machine because of not being able to take reading at the same time each day and this machine and wristband nakes ne feel like I can get a picture of my blood pressure to decide if I need to take any steps to improve it or not
The Hilo Band is just what I needed. My doctor wants me to keep an eye on my BP measurements at home, but it is so hard to find a quiet time, long enough after eating, drinking caffeine, exercising etc. to use a standard cuff and take good representative readings.This made me tense and anxious about getting readings, which was a burden.But now I can just wear the band on my wrist and forget about it, then occasionally sync with the Hilo App to see what readings have been collected (while I wasn't worrying about it).2 minor problems: first, my 6 year old phone was on Android 9 and would not run the app (needs Android 10 or later) so I had to buy a new phone. It is on Android 15 and actually a lot faster, with more capacity than my old phone, so a benefit really.secondly, after I fainted once, my doctor wanted readings in normal sitting position, followed by a reading standing up. Cannot control when the band takes measurements so used the cuff; but the cuff kept saying it had difficulty taking a reading while I was standing up and that I should try again! For this purpose it meant I had to go back to my old, standard BP cuff, which is possibly less reliable, being 5 years old.
I was initially very pleased to engage with new technology. However, following a period of hospitalisation and monitoring of my BP have lost confidence in the accuracy of the device.It is sold with a silicon band which I also believe at nearly £30 is vastly overpriced and exploitative. These bands are not particularly robust and can be easily broken with no reasonably priced alternative which has allowed the company to corner the market on accessories.
There appears to be some contradictory information in other reviews, which I would like to address. Firstly, in my experience, the band provides very accurate blood pressure readings throughout the day and night — as long as it is fitted correctly and synced with the main armband at least once a month. Secondly, blood pressure data is synced to Apple Health free of charge, which is a great feature. I’ve had my band for nearly a year now and wear it in all sorts of situations. It consistently gives me useful insights and live blood pressure readings that clearly show how my blood pressure varies depending on time of day and activity level. The battery lasts between five and seven days on a full charge, and the band is comfortable and unobtrusive to wear. I’ve had a couple of minor issues, but the customer service has been genuinely excellent. In fact, they sent me a replacement unit free of charge and without question when a small piece detached. I’ve recommended this product to several friends — which says it all, really.
An easy way to monitor blood pressure and avoid ‘white coat’ syndrome. Also invaluable to know overnight readings which are important. Only disappointment is the cheap and fragile wrist strap which lets down the feel and appearance.
