I white washed the walls before starting but still needed 5-6 coats. In some areas the paint just wouldn't stick to the wall and others it's bubbled. We've used 2 full tins on a 3m and a 4m wall and it's still patchy. In hindsight for how much I've had to use a more expensive brand would probably have been cheaper.
I'm a professional decorator and in recent yrs have had no end of headache with white waterbased woodwork finishes... poor coverage, not always great finishes...I however used the johnstones trade oil eggshell in brilliant white recently and although better than waterbased it's still not great considering the drying times..Sanded down the woodwork with a mirka sander and used wet and dry to completely flatten it.. oil undercoat and 2 coats of the eggshell... Nice finish but still had to work it in... factor in the price and its capabilities it needs improvements with coverage...I would prefer waterbased better for health, environment etc but putting on in excess of 4 coats over a primer and having excess paint build up, doors not closing properly etc is ridiculous and that's nearly all the paint companies... I'll be forced to use oil finishes..
If I could give this no stars I would have. We bought three tins of Johnstones white silk emulsion for our hall stairs and landing, our decorators arrived three days ago to start the painting, they asked us to take a look at the white paint as it was not covering the very pale beige that we had on the wall previously, we couldn't believe how the Johnstones white silk that they had applied looked watered down and had very little cover, Our decorators have now been working 3 days on this job painting all walls 3 times, and we can still see the previous beige paint underneath, we have paid our decorators 3 days money which amount to a lot, to not satisfaction to ourselves and we are left to purchase a Trade white silk emulsion that is a little better cover but have to finish the job ourselves because our decorating team have another job to startI did telephone, the Customer Complaints department and explained to the Lady there and said I would email our photots through to her, she was extremely rude to me and asked to speak with our decorating team so I put them on the phone, she then told them they were painting incorrectly! this went down very badly as these experienced decorators of 25 years experience were speech less at her attitude ! I then asked to speak with a Manager and she told me they would not speak with me! after all the money we have spent with Johnstones paint and our decorators wages, we feel extremely let down with the lack of Customer Service and now reading all their negative reviews I can see why!buyer beware!!!!!!DO NOT USE THIS PAINT EVERY....
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Wish I had have read the reviews first. If I could give minus stars I would. Used three different colours of Johnstone to do a geometric design on daughters wall. When peeling the masking tape off, the paint peeled with it like acrylic vinyl. In disbelief at it.
Terrible paint, 4 coats later of dark blue over cream and it’s still patchy and not covered, also you only have to rub against it and it comes off exposing the under coat, never known a paint like it, only bought as we liked the colour now looking at crown or Dulux to repaint
I so wish I've read all reviews before buying your paint painted my skirting boards with your wood and metal emulsion even sanded and sugar washed them well if you want your paint peel like a sunburnt skin that's your paint to go to...
