Review Time
I was reluctant to spend so much money on my new shoes but I have wide feet and was having trouble finding comfortable cycling shoes. I followed the instructions on how to size correctly and then called to double check with the sales person. He was great and gave me tips on the fit and my cleats. Great experience and very glad I spent the money!
These shoes are brilliant the issue is customer service. I have warrantied one pair due to a creaking heel pad (there was a failure in the sole) but I have just had to send them off again. This means I have gone 3 weeks without my shoes just to be told that the thing that was warrantied before does not apply in this case. Lake writes that it warrants “its products to be free from defects in workmanship and materials” for 2 years. The warranty person at my local dealer was brilliant, but lake themselves have refused to replace the shoes because apparently it is standard wear and tear for a screw to be so poorly fitted that it abrades the carbon. I’m very unhappy and feel particularly hard done by given all I want is for the shoes to work as expected without terrible noises. Really ruined the last couple of weeks and particularly the last few days whilst I tried to explain the unreasonableness of this.
I bought for the second season the CX238 WIDE. It's the only shoe that works for me after testing countless wide shoes that aren't really wide. Material across the whole shoe is great. I have only one caveat from this model compared to the previous model and that is in the inside heel area.The previous model had some sort of teeth cloth that kept my heel in place, allowing my to not overtight the shoe, it was a perfect match. This year is even better with the little rubber dots! However that feeling is going away quicker than last years cloth as the rubber drops are ripping apart, I knew this was going to happen so I have been gentle when putting in and our of my feet. However the simply fact of putting some power is making them rip. My hope is that once they rip completely, the cloth can hold my heel in place. Still a fantastic shoe.
It took me a long time to pull the trigger on buying a pair of Lake shoes I live in Canada and when it was all said and done, it was over $500 Canadian, but having the white toolbox and my white foot in a white shoe changes the game on cycling it’s enjoyable again and I have happy feet Best shoes I’ve ever put on.
