Ordered a pair of MX219 shoes at the beginning of July. They shipped very quickly but for whatever reason they never arrived even though the shipping company said they did arrive. After a week of working with Lake and the shipping company a new pair were shipped and arrived in 2 days. I was aggravated due to this but knew Lake would make it right. I setup my shoes and cleats for a maiden voyage a couple days after that. The shoes fit extremely well and made for a wonderful riding experience. I love Lake shoes as this is my second pair. I will order from Lake again.
I have small and wide feet, size 37. Very few companies make shoes in size 37 wide, and if they do, I've likely tried them and they were never quite good/wide enough and caused pain, numbness and blisters to the point of making me limp off of the bike due to the pain. Over the years I've used Shimano, Sidi, Bont in wide and double wide, and even custom made Rocket 7's which were great until my foot shape changed with age. I have tried 4 different Lake shoes, some of them fit better than others, and I use them for different purposes. The CX333 are my summer race shoes. They fit well and are fully adjustable with the double boa, and the kangaroo leather has molded to my foot well. The MX333 in the same size, for gravel/mtb, did not work for me and squeezed my toes too tight, so I tried the MX242 and they are much better. Though the toe box does taper significantly at the tip, they still fit my wide foot and don't cause the pain and numbness the MX333 caused. For winter and training rides I use the CX201 because they are a bit more comfortable than the CX333 in the toe box due to being all fabric. However, they feel a bit less secure on my foot due to the single boa. I got them in two sizes, and use the bigger size in winter with thick socks, toe covers, and shoe covers, and that works way better than any other winter shoe I've tried because they are wide enough to not restrict my circulation.
A light weight and extremely comfortable shoe with excellent power transfer to the pedals. Wide toe box allows the forefoot to drive power effectively while keeping the heal locked in place. The forefoot drop is perfect. So much fun accelerating to chase down breakaways or when dancing up a mountain.
Lakes are the only cycling shoes I’d buy. They are friendly to answer queries on my wide feet with bunions. I got the perfect pairs for both MX and CX, after multiple painful attempts at other brands that say they specialize in shoes for wide feet, lake shoes are life saving for my climbs and long rides. I recently had a pair on sale sent to me with rubber coming off. I gave feedback and I was sent another pair … on the latest model! Impressed and touched.
I bought the CX239 wide and after a few rides I can say no hot spots and the last stiffness is great. Coming from a SIDI wire I can say this is wider and fits true to size. I have a very wide foot and this will be my go to shoe for a very long time.
