A thieving system for collecting money for driving up to the terminal. No barriers, just a camera-controlled passage. Night flights when people return home half-aware and tired. Anyone can forget. No warning, an immediate fine of £100, or £60 if you pay upfront. That's theft in my opinion. I'll avoid this airport if I can.

One of the security team ( a gentleman who has a fabulous grey moustache and beard) was friendly and witty. His infectious enthusiasm and friendly disposition made the experience fun for everyone in the queue.

Expectations for a smooth trip turned into a nightmare.

After booking a flight, fast pass, and long stay parking through the company, I anticipated a hassle-free journey. Upon arrival at the long stay parking, the automatic barrier failed to open. There were no staff present, only an unclear intercom. I explained my booking and provided my registration, only to be told that I must have made an error, which was not a polite way to start. Once I confirmed my booking number, I was informed that I had only booked Fast Pass security, but not parking. Despite having a receipt confirming my payment, I was still denied entry and redirected to another parking area, causing me to nearly miss my flight. The Fast Pass was misleading, as it merely moved me ahead in the queue but resulted in delays.
I raised the issue with the company, but they were unhelpful, directing me to the airport's customer service. The initial response stated they had no record of my booking but acknowledged ongoing IT issues. After 11 days of back-and-forth communication, I emailed again on the morning of my return flight, only to receive a reply days later, hoping my concerns had been addressed.
However, I was then denied exit from the parking lot due to a lack of confirmation of my payment, leading to a £540 charge instead of the £67 I had already paid. The intercom operator informed me that these issues were common and suggested booking directly next time.
After explaining my situation, I was asked to email proof to a complicated address. Eventually, I managed to provide the receipt, only to be told that it was a goodwill gesture to open the barrier, which was frustrating since I had already paid in advance. When my frustration became evident, it seemed an apology was required to lift the barrier.
To sum up, the company blamed me for their mistake and threatened me with penalties for future errors. Adding to the disappointment, a customer service representative replied to my email after my return, expressing regret for the delayed response but hoping my issues had been resolved. They had not, as no one had taken any action in 12 days.
Additionally, the airport facilities were in terrible condition, consistently dirty, which is embarrassing for visitors experiencing the UK for the first time, especially compared to European airport standards.

Steer Clear of This Airport

Do not recommend this airport. They will likely cause you to miss your flight unless you arrive significantly early. While they are in the process of upgrading luggage scanners, the current ones fail to provide clear images of bags. Often, your luggage will be inspected by unfriendly staff. I suggest choosing other airports that offer cleaner facilities and more courteous personnel.

A Truly Disappointing Airport Experience

After arriving at midnight from Morocco, I was appalled by the poor state of this so-called international airport. In the arrivals area, countless passengers were forced to sleep on the hard floor due to a lack of seating, except for some uncomfortable benches near the food court. It’s shocking that a wealthy country can’t provide better seating at its airports. The overall appearance of the airport is worn down and dirty. The smell in the only open men's restroom was unbearable. Those managing this airport should be replaced with people who value the traveling public. This airport needs a complete overhaul to meet modern standards, which is a reminder of why I chose to leave this country.

Extremely Disheartening Experience

I had a very disappointing experience at this airport. With a 7:40 flight, I was told to arrive early, allowing three hours for security. However, the last train from London is at 23:30 and the first at 05:00. I chose the 23:30 train, but upon arrival, nothing was open, and security wouldn’t start until 03:00. The seating was minimal, and the only food options were a coffee shop, a fast food outlet, and a pharmacy. It’s frustrating that security opens so late when early arrival is encouraged. More seating and better retail choices, like a pub, would greatly enhance the experience. At midnight, areas were closed for cleaning, leaving many people uncomfortable on the floor. This will be my last visit to this airport.

Subpar Airport Facilities

This airport is quite inadequate. I was advised to arrive three hours early for a 7:40 flight due to air traffic control instructions. The downside of traveling from London is the limited train schedule. I arrived at 23:30, but nothing was open and I was told security wouldn’t open until 03:00. There are few available seats, and the retail options are limited to a coffee shop, a fast food chain, and a pharmacy. It's puzzling why security opens so late when early arrival is advised. The lack of seating and retail options, such as a pub, is disappointing. At midnight, many areas were closed for cleaning, leaving people sitting on cold, dirty floors. I won't be flying from here again.

Frustrating Experience with Long Waits

I would rate this experience negatively if possible. On December 20th, I stood in line for nearly two hours to get through security, with no bins or restrooms available. The bins for disposing of liquids were relocated, leading to longer wait times for regular passengers. Additionally, the escalators were out of order, the restrooms were filthy, and there was a lack of personnel. Even filling a water bottle took ages due to long lines. This airport is a nightmare, and despite the cheaper flights, I advise avoiding it due to the additional expenses you may incur.

Complete Disorganization at the Airport

This airport is a total mess, and I will not return. After nearly two hours in a security line that stretched throughout the airport, there was no information or communication from staff. Many travelers likely missed their flights because of this. We faced similar issues at passport control on arrival. Once on the plane, we were delayed further due to a catering truck breaking down. It seems impossible to even move this vehicle to allow for departure. If it takes as long for the engineer to arrive as it did for us to get through security, I dread to think when we will actually leave. Although there are claims of substantial investment in the airport, I believe it needs a complete rebuild. It's clear why other airlines are expanding routes from more efficient airports, as this one is a complete farce. I expect better service and organization.
