I just started the Wellcare Advantage plan with the spendables card in January. I was so happy about the card. Wellcare agents will outright lie to get you to sign up.
They will tell you that you can use the Spendables card to get-----------
Healthy fruits and vegetables, fresh meat
You can buy gas for you car
You can use the card to help with rent, utilities and even internet
I can't even remember what else I could use this "magical" card for. But it's lies UNLESS you have some chronic illness (like cancer), are not expected to live long, I think being in a nursing home qualifies you.
In reality you ONLY get OTC items and you DON'T get a list of what you can get. You have to use the Spendables app to scan the items you'd like to get to see IF they qualify. And, guess what the app won't even open a lot of the time, freezes or keeps taking you back to sign in. And, if you can get it to work probably 90% of the items you scan do not qualify!
Wellcare has one of the highest OTC amounts I saw. But, they could give you $1,000 a month OTC and it's not going to help you if you can't use it.
The only reason Wellcare offers a good OTC amount is because they know there aren't enough eligible items for you to spend your Spendable balance.
If I had found Trust Pilot before I signed up for Wellcare's "DISADVANTAGE" plan, I'd moved on and kept looking.

Frustrated by Rate Increase Notification

As a subscriber, I recently received a packet regarding my rate increase. The letter was just a quarter of a page, followed by four pages listing every other language available. It's no surprise they need to raise premiums for English-speaking policyholders.

Delivery Issues with Frozen Foods

I ordered frozen foods, and they didn't deliver them to my apartment door. They were left downstairs for several days, and it would have been longer if I hadn't gone down to the store. This is unacceptable.

Surprising operational status

It’s surprising this company continues to operate given their service issues. We did not check reviews before applying, focusing mainly on price. I was approved quickly, but my wife faced a denial due to missing details. After providing the information a week prior to the deadline, it was never recorded, leading to rejection. They recognized their error but refused to correct it. Though one representative filed a grievance on our behalf, it was ineffective. Many staff members were hard to understand, and I was baffled by their inadequate training and practices.

Intrusive and bothersome

While my claims were processed during the two years of coverage, the endless spam calls from the company were incredibly frustrating. They repeatedly sought medical information from me, attempted to arrange home visits, and even pressured my doctor with emails suggesting tests. This behavior is intrusive, annoying, and unprofessional, showing a lack of respect for those they insure. Despite informing them multiple times to stop calling, they continued.

Truly disappointing

It's astonishing that this company remains operational given the poor quality of their customer service. We didn't check reviews beforehand, focusing solely on the price. I was approved quickly, but my wife's application was denied due to missing information—like her Medicare number, date of birth, and address. She provided the necessary details over the phone a week before the deadline, but they failed to record it, resulting in a rejection. They admitted their mistake but refused to correct it. Although one representative attempted to file a grievance for us, it led to nothing. Many staff members seemed to be overseas, making communication difficult, despite their efforts. The call transfer and hold processes were amusingly ineffective. Their training and business practices are baffling; they should have gone out of business by now.

Unreasonable pre-authorization rule

A medication I need for comfort at the end of life requires a 72-hour pre-authorization. Although my doctor requested expedited service, they completely ignored this. I reached out to explain the urgency, but they refused to expedite the process. Additionally, the representative was hard to understand. Had I known this would occur, I would have chosen a different plan.

Poor health insurance option

This is the worst health insurance available, particularly in the southern region.

Ineffective customer support

The customer service staff are completely ineffective. In response to denials for brand-name medications, they simply put you on hold multiple times to read from scripts that don't clarify their position. The company frequently changes coverage policies mid-year, knowing there's little recourse for customers. They disregard doctors' orders for brand-name medications, even when patients have followed their protocols with generics. They then insist on trying multiple generics, even if only one is available and has been unsuccessful. This leaves customers in a tough spot, needing medications that have worked for them for years, only to face new obstacles. It's simply deceitful.

Concerning experience

Each year, my health insurance gets canceled and I find myself switched to another plan without consent. After attending a doctor's appointment, I discovered my coverage was terminated. When I contacted the new provider, they falsely claimed it was the fault of the social security office, while the social security office remained unresponsive. This situation is troubling and seems destined to escalate.
