I was signing up, they charged me twice for application fee, application was rejected. When I called, she said that she can't refund me the 60 dollars, only 30.Didn't mention why application rejected, I have all the requirments, valid driver license, age requirment, last ticket I had was 8 years ago. So pay attention, you might be applying and rejected for no reason, and then get charged for it.
I payed for a month to be told I haven’t had my license long enough this I’m ok with it’s the rules. Now I asked for my payment back and they refused … this is very disingenuous. This company has no manager no supervisors and no fraud department. This company is not legitimate and I feel like it needs to be looked in to KYB because I’m not getting a great response from there customer service call operators
TERRIBLE!! Will fee you to no end. Paid nearly $500 for 5 hours due to fees. Car was empty of gas upon pickup yet I had to stop when returning to return spot to fill up causing me to be late on return and they stalled the car leaving me stranded in a dangerous location with my daughter.
There are multiple reasons you don't want to rent at all with Zipcar despite being available next door:- Small prints, minutes lates, and other tricks will make you be charged fees very often,- Prices are far over the market,- Km charged over the distance allowance is far too expensive compared to rental/fuel price,- Cars are always dirty and smelly - not because of people, but because Zipcar do not maintain/clean their car often enough,- The app keeps failing at locking, unlocking the car, also for ending the trip, stressful and annoying,- You have to take photos from outside and inside the car do document, that does not make sense at night or when it rains,- Your phone runs out of battery, and you are lost..on a single positive note in my experience, the chat is responsive, and you can talk to a real person if you ask (often useless but at least responsive).My experiences with zip car ranges from June to October 2025 through 4 rentals.
This company is a joke. I have not had any response from them about violation notices and just told ‘it’s all off shore so we can do nothing’. I have called and emailed nonstop for nearly a week even though I was told I’ll get a response in 48 hours. DO NOT hire from them
I just signed up and discovered that the insurance offered when signing up is not great and I would need to fork over $$$ for better coverage. I immediately went through the steps to cancel.And I was dinged for the full year plus the application fee for a 10 minute membership.
I tried joining Zipcar and accepted that the application fee was non-refundable. However, while in the process of providing requested documents to Zipcar, I got in touch with customer service, seeking clarification on the further documents they had requested I provide, I received a notification that my application had "timed out", and that I would need to apply again and pay the 15 pound application fee again. Being thoroughly dissatisfied with the responses from customer service, I declined to make a second application.Several months later, I asked a friend to add me to her account. Without any warning to her at the time, she was automatically charged another 10 pound "application fee". It transpires that in order to use my friend's account I need to have my own account (which had already been denied). I contacted customer service again about this, someone on the phone said it would be "escalated", but I never heard back. I emailed, and after multiple emails where they did not actually address my queries about being added to my friend's account (instead trying to talk to me about my initial application), they simply reiterated that the "application fee" was nonrefundable. The first application fee was exceptionally frustrating, but I could accept it. The second "application fee", with no prior warning, and with the process actually being automatic (absolutely no manpower required), and essentially just taking me back to my own personal account (what is the point of joining a friend's account if you require your own personal account??), I cannot accept. I fail to see how charging a fee without providing a service in return is compliant with consumer protection laws.
I've cancelled my Zipcar account.... what started out as a great service has turned into an expensive nightmare... Prices have gone up while service as DECLINED tremendously!! As example... I reserved a car... arrived on time to pick-up... Previous driver had not yet returned the car... 20min later I contacted Zipcar support... I'm told no more cars available at the garage... I was told they would book me at another location... I arrive at the new location, can't access the car... Call support again... after another 20min, I get access to the car... The car is an absolute mess... I submit pictures... It's rainy out... while on trip I noticed the tires are swerving... balding... I call support to submit a claim/reimbursement... I mention that I know there is a $50 fee for returning a car late, I'd like to request that $50 be passed on to me for my over 45min delay and was extremely late to my meeting... I'm told a manager will review and get back to me... They never do... I call again a week later and I'm told they can't credit me the $50 and that apparently I refused a one hour credit (never happened), so there's nothing they can do.... case closed!! WOW
