Review Time
I am deeply disappointed with Airbnb’s handling of my case regarding a false and retaliatory guest review on my listing. Despite providing clear evidence of the guest’s fabricated claims and inconsistencies, and submitting multiple formal complaints, Airbnb has failed to remove the unfair review or respond to my concerns adequately. An Airbnb ambassador even called me to pressure a refund that was outside my cancellation policy, which the guest tried to use to bypass the rules. After refusing, the guest retaliated with a harmful review that threatens my Superhost status.Airbnb’s customer support repeatedly ignored my appeals, applying blanket decisions without proper investigation. My formal complaints were either dismissed or unanswered past the required timeframe. This has left me frustrated, with no recourse but to escalate externally. It is distressing that Airbnb, a platform I once trusted and worked with closely, allows retaliatory, unsubstantiated reviews to damage hosts’ reputations without fair process or support.
Bad experience! One button press and it’s over! Either the system provides too much hassle for a host to overturn and reasonably sort a situation or the host is unreasonable and Airbnb are supporting them taking money unreasonably!! I took a properly off the market for 2 whole days as booked it as the listing said full refund in 24 hours (my bad I took it wrong then and can’t check but obvs meant if cancelled within 24 hours) so when I cancel 2 days later and £73 is kept by them (booking 2 weeks away but as I said I only booked it 2 days before that so hasn’t been a mean person and held it for weeks and cancelled last minute) I message in minutes to say if I had known I would have changed date or just kept it as is and asked to do that - no I’m sticking policy and I’ve booked a cleaner?! Ok understand a bit but reasonable to just let me keep to that date then?? No apparently no. Airbnb support take over, nice person who is empathetic and makes u think they will help to resolve but all they do is ask the host and the host says no and that the only impact they can make, the rug is quickly whipped away and u realise its all a steadfast ‘computer says no’ So the host has £73 for nothing and could still book out the properly and I’m writing slating reviews as really feel the platform has issues and does not live up to other platforms that would offer more flexibility. If this host is transparent then obvs they don’t have many issues then I presume so why when one thing comes up they have no interest at all in resolving?? So wierd as the customer service people were very prompt, available on a Sunday and late evening - messaging and on calls….. but zero impact!
I used to think Airbnb was a guest-friendly platform. Until I got hit with a last-minute host cancellation that exposed their true face: a rigged system designed to profit from your misfortune.Let me break it down:⸻💸 Step 1: The cancellation scamI booked an apartment. Paid AED 8,329.30 (~$2,270) with my American Express.2 days before arrival, the host cancels, citing “AC maintenance”. Airbnb doesn’t refund me — they issue “travel credit” inside their platform. That means they keep the money in their system and push you to rebook quickly, so they don’t have to actually return anything.⸻💸 Step 2: Forced to book a worse, more expensive placeLeft with no options and no real support, I had to book whatever was available — a smaller, worse property for AED 12,025.35 (~$3,280).That’s an extra $1,000+ from my pocket, just to avoid being homeless in a foreign country.Of course, this second booking also goes through Airbnb. More fees for them.⸻💸 Step 3: They fine the host 50%, offer you 20%, and pocket the restYes — Airbnb confirmed to me that hosts are penalized for cancellations. The standard fee is up to 50% of the reservation cost. But guess how much they offer the guest? 20%.They literally keep the difference as pure profit. So here’s the deal: • The host gets penalized. • You get screwed. • Airbnb wins. Every time.⸻🚨 The real internal scam • They hold your cash as credits (even if you ask for a refund). • You can’t review the host who canceled on you. • Their agents give copy-paste replies with 0 accountability. • You get forced into paying more — they pretend to “support” you while monetizing the problem they caused. • They lie about how much they refunded or penalized — you see only what they want you to see.⸻❌ Final verdict:Airbnb isn’t a booking platform. It’s a well-oiled cancellation arbitrage scheme. They profit from chaos, charge you more, and hide behind “policies” to avoid giving anything real back.Oh, and the promised refund of AED 1,573.86? Still not received. That’s the final insult.⸻✅ Next steps:I’m escalating this publicly — on Trustpilot, BBB, FTC, Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, and Dubai Consumer Protection. This isn’t going away. You can’t treat guests like garbage and expect silence.⸻P.S. Don’t be fooled by “We’re here to help” emails.Airbnb is here to extract money, not solve problems. I’ve learned it the hard way — maybe you won’t have to.
It was our first time booking through Airbnb. We had rented an apartment in Milan from November 6th, 2025 to November 8th, 2025. The host had taken a picture of the toilet on the day we arrived – November 6th – where everything looked perfectly fine. We checked out on November 8th at 10 AM, and after our stay, a cleaning crew came to clean the apartment. According to the host, it was the cleaning staff who discovered that there was a problem with the toilet.Later that same day, we received a message from the host claiming that the toilet was clogged and that chemicals and metal objects had been used, allegedly scratching the toilet. If we had experienced any issues with the toilet during our stay, we would of course have contacted the host immediately, as it is an essential part of any accommodation. We were extremely careful and followed all the instructions the host provided. It feels completely unreasonable that we are now facing a bill of 305 EUR – especially when the host claims to have “documentation.” As mentioned, a cleaning crew entered the apartment after our stay, and it seems far more likely that they used cleaning chemicals or perhaps poured dirty water into the toilet, which could have caused the blockage. This is also quite evident in the video the host sent. We were on holiday and obviously had no interest in damaging a toilet. This has been a really unpleasant experience for us, and I want to warn others: If you book through Airbnb, make sure to take photos of the entire apartment upon arrival – otherwise you risk being scammed, just like we were.
I’ve used Airbnb for years, but this experience was unbelievable. I stepped on two rusty nails from a loose plank in my Airbnb, reported it immediately, and spent six weeks being passed from one department to another. Every time, someone new “reviewed the case,” apologized, and promised follow-up, then nothing. It felt like they were dragging things out until I’d give up. In the end, they offered $200 goodwill which is a joke, not because they took responsibility, but to close the case. The process was exhausting, untransparent, and made me lose all trust in their “community support.”It’s not about the money, it’s about accountability. I expected a company this size to take a guest’s injury seriously. Instead, I got polite delay tactics and no real resolution. I’ll think twice before ever booking through Airbnb again.
This company who humiliates people putting them in a danger situation. I relied on them at the last moment and i had only communication with them but they put me down in a last money, when i extimly needed somewhere to stay! in the night. Suddenly, i couldn't book anything on their website and the reason wasn't clear. They just always referred on a strange actions of their system and didn't nothing to help me.. i was in panice, along.. no where on street but they looked like were glad and satisfied with this... They are monster, with a sadistic behaviour. To be with them it's to put your life at risk. Be away from them! They are danger people....
🛑 My Airbnb Experience in Riyadh — A Cautionary Tale 🛑I booked a 10 day stay in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia through Airbnb, totalling £500, after confirming with the host that smoking was not allowed in the building. Unfortunately, what awaited us was a complete nightmare. As you can see in the pictures below, the property was infested with cockroaches, including one found crawling above the head of a 10 month old baby while she slept. We had to catch and remove several ourselves during the stay.Every night, the apartment filled with cigarette smoke seeping in from other units, despite the host’s assurance of a smoke free environment. To make matters worse, the water supply was cut off for over six hours on two separate occasions during our stay.We raised both the smoking and water issues repeatedly with the landlord through the Airbnb app, and there is documented evidence of all communications. After all this, Airbnb offered just 10 percent compensation for the affected nights, later making an exception with an offer of 200 US dollars (around £160) which was an insult considering the original £500 cost and the fact that we had to extend our stay in Riyadh for a full working week, missing several pre planned business meetings arranged from the UK.To make matters worse, we spent over one hour and fifty minutes on a call with an Airbnb supervisor named Anishah, providing detailed evidence and explanations of our experience, only to be met with the same inadequate response.💡 Moral of the story:Do not expect the same standard of service or accountability from Airbnb in Riyadh as you would in Europe.
I had booked an apartment for a stay in Paris Everything went well except for a nasty smell of animal urine When mentioned this in my public review the host lied about me and the stay He then requested I pay for damages that I did not do like “scratches on the cooker”When we ate out every night and I stole a extension cord which doesn’t work in the uk so I had no reason to take it despite these lies AIRBNB had allowed this guy to scam me and pay for things I did not do , even after showing evidence of these false claims they did not care they sided with this man who scammed me I will never book with Airbnb again
