I found when I had made a dog a favourite, and you presumably felt they were not suitable you heard nothing, did not know if the dog was still available, so poor communication. Post adopting Trixie , I know the advice people had endeavoured to contact me and my mobile phone is playing up and says I am not available first call but on second call you get through . Realising I have missed r these calls I have tried to phone you back twice today and have been left hanging on the line both times for over 5 minutes, so have given up.
Alistair and Izzy both very good although we did not meet Izzy she was very good on text. From the very start Alistair has been informative and explained everything and answered all our questions and very helpful about our dog Benji. Although we have only had him 2 days his training that he has already received shows through, he is very good on the lead, pulls a little but nothing to worry about, as soon as you say stop he stops. All in all a very good experience so far
I have been warned that Dogs Trust do often disregard applications if you already have dogs, but I couldn't believe we were overlooked so quickly on paper without even an Interview or conversation. Its incredibly offensive to be disregarded in such a way after such a detailed application and visits to see the dogs in their kennels. We have rescued Chihuahua's for over a decade, we have huge experience in the breeds behaviours and health. Our application will not even be considered for two Chihuahua's in the care of the West London Team who need to be re homed together. We have had no interview or follow up at all. I cannot express enough how much I disagree that a home with no animals is more suitable taking into consideration our strong interest and experience with the breed. I have shared a video of our home already, we have ample resources to accommodate them and work from home full time to provide them unwaivered attention. I recognise Dogs Trust will do what they believe is best, but they should consider an appeals process to prevent people from feeling so disregarded and unsuitable without fully taking us through the application process. I really hope these two little dogs are moved out of Kennels as soon as possible, or at the very least fostered until they can find a home. I wish I could apologise to them directly that we were denied the opportunity to give them a wonderful life. I hope they go on to a happy home and live long, loved lives.

Dear Dogs Trust Team,I am writing to express my disappointment regarding the lack of communication following my rehoming enquiry submitted on 26th September. To date, I have not received any form of acknowledgment or response, which is very disheartening — especially from an organisation that prides itself on helping dogs find loving homes.Having worked in the dog industry for over four years, I fully appreciate how busy rehoming teams can be. However, even a brief confirmation or update would have gone a long way. Sadly, my experience has made me question whether Dogs Trust has become more focused on operating as a business rather than a charity genuinely dedicated to rehoming and animal welfare. It’s disappointing to see that while so many dogs need homes, people like myself who are ready and experienced to provide one are left without any communication. I now understand why many individuals choose to rehome dogs from abroad, such as Romanian street dogs, instead of through UK-based charities.I would appreciate a response to this message, along with clarification as to why my enquiry was not acknowledged.Kind regards,Ben Cook
We have had the best experience with Izzy and Alistair in Dundee in being successful in adopting little Teddy. They wee both very informative, friendly and patient. They had lots of great advice to help my 12yr old Jack Russell adapt, we got lots of goodies and advice when they dropped Teddy off and made it very clear they are always there if we need anything.Highly recommend Alistair and Izzy at Dogs Trust Dudee 🐶☀️
We adopted a Dog's Trust dog in June, after our gorgeous Dog's Trust dog we'd had for 10 years had died, and all went smoothly. However, in September we decided we could offer a happy loving home to a second dog and it has been an extremely upsetting process leaving me quite depressed. We completed an application form and regularly updated DT with our favourites (taking care that our circumstances match each dog's needs), but on three occasions we were offered a dog, then a reason was found for us not to have it (once because 5 mins after the offer, the behaviour team decided it couldn't be housed with another dog, although on their website it still says it can) and 3 other times we have waited and waited to get a phone call, then weeks later see the dog has been reserved for someone else without us ever getting a phone call. We were told by the adoption team that they will let us know when a dog comes in that matches us, but this has never happened even though we are experienced rescue dog owners who live in a quiet rural district and are home all day. I've looked at their website twice every day, and searched 4 different branches, and having now waited and failed to get 6 dogs, I've given up, it's all too upsetting. I'm now looking at Romanian sites and Gumtree, and we'll take our chances, as Blue Cross and Battersea have been no better. I know two other people who are in the same situation as us, and note similar complaints in this website. We shan't make donations to Dogs Trust in future, as rehoming a dog no longer seems to be their priority. If they can't cope with the number of applications they receive, they should stop filming the "For Dog's Sake'TV programme.
