Worst renting experience ever.

First time i have actually given 1 star for anything. They tend to fix things, but in this case they did not.I was on a business trip to the UK and i should rent a car. I went with Europcar for the first and last time. I usually use Sixxt, which is sooo much better. So i was scammed. They didnt have the car i booked online, so i was forced to upgrade for triple the price. Besides that i was punished for being under 26. Other companies for a small car with no power tend to be 23 and below. Stay away is my only advice. Thanks for reading.

Dreadful service by Europcar

Dreadful service by Europcar. Supplied a car which should never have been delivered.Tried numerous times to get in touch but they never reply. If I could give 0 stars I would, customer service is terrible.I’ve since followed the advice of the response on here. Guess what? No reply. Why bother even responding when your company does nothing.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANYI was supposed to get a courtesy car from them through insurance. It took them two days to deliver and then the guy forgot the key. They told me if I wasn’t in at THEIR chosen time, they’d take the car back; which they did. Contacted head office who spoke to Stockport office and they denied it. Collection was supposed to be on 5th July and they turned up on July 16th. Customer service is a joke. No one wants to help and they hang up on you. They upgraded the car and expect to claim for same. Absolute joke of a company! DO NOT USE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCESAnd as you can see below! The same generic message. They’re impossible to deal with! The car has FINALLY gone back so the message is actually not even relevant to my review! What a joke of a company!!!!

Awful

Awful. Booked car and paid the premium for young driver and stated age. Payment and booking accepted. Company called the morning of hire leaving a voicemail saying they don’t hire to young people and cancelled leaving no way to attend an important interview. Now stated up to 28 days to get a refund and no response to any communication.

I arrived earlier in the Heathrow…

I arrived earlier in the Heathrow Europcar Branch. They tried to sell me a better that the booked car, in the excuse that they have not an available car at this moment. They suggested I had to pay an extra 600, then 400 and finally 275 GBP to give me a better car that it was available at that time, otherwise I would have to wait 3 hours until my car becomes available.I originally had paid 300 for my rental. And I could see that in the branch at that time there were more that 150 available cars of all categories.I denied and waited. Finally they gave me a car in the class I ordered after letting me wait for 40 minutes.I am dissapointed by this behaviour since my experience is excellent with this brand. That is why I put 3* and not 2* which would be based on my last experience

If I could give 0 stars I would

We called to ask if the rental desk would still be open for the time our flight was due in. EuropeCar took this as an opportunity to cancel our booking without telling us, we then had to rent a new car, spending another £900 at the desk, financially penalising us for no reason.Incredibly unhappy with the customer service when trying to raise a complaint - we have had no responses to the escalation of the complaint - ignoring this escalation twice. Very disappointed. Do not use

BEWARE!!!!! SCAMMER services

********* ORIGINAL POST ***********9/25/2014BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! You have been warned. Horrible experience with EuropCar UK. I rented a car through Booking.com. When we arrived, they told us they didn’t have the car that we requested/paid for prior and they were going to upgrade us. They upgraded all right. On top of the $700 we already paid through booking.com they charged another $1200. They told me the initial $700 was included in the $1200 so I only had a $500 upcharge. I asked why there was any upcharge since they did not have the car I booked. I was told because I reserved the car through booking .com and not through them it would not be a free upgrade that I could go back to booking.com and request a different car or upgrade to this one at a cost. I am standing at the airport with 4 other people and didn’t have many options at the moment so we elected to pay the difference for the upgrade. Little did I know they charge me $1200 on top of the initial $700 I had already paid. I was not aware of this until AFTER my trip. Now that the car was dropped off they charged me another $400 to replace a tire because there was a minor cut in the side of the tire. This is the same tire that had previous damage noted on the rental contract. Where the cut was and the size of it you could not see it depending how the car is parked. When I returned it the cut was in the 1:00 o’clock position on the tire and easily visible. If the car is parked with the tire between 4:00 – 8:00 o’clock position you can not see the defect. At any rate I was charged $400 to replace the tire that only had about 60% remaining tread left on the tire. All in all it was a horrible experience with them and I will never use them again.******** UPDATED **********9/29/2024Reached out to their generic response. Let's see what they do about the issue.******** UPDATED **********9/30/2024Response from Customer ServiceThank you for contacting Europcar Customer Services.I can confirm the rental station will offer additional optional products to our customers upon their arrival at the desk, to ensure they are aware of all the products and services available. It is then the customer’s decision to accept or decline the products offered to them.Whilst I appreciate you have stated that the upgrade charge was not agreed to, I would be unable to comment further as I was not part of the verbal discussion. When the two parties involved are providing conflicting information, I can only base my decision by the documented evidence available. As the rental agreement and Additional Optional Products form have been signed, in acceptance of the product, the request for the charge to be refunded has been respectfully declined.Regards,Omar Amoifek

Absolutely appalling service

Absolutely appalling service from Europcar. Will NEVER rent from them again. I was travelling to Italy as I am part of Andrea Bocelli's management team and he was performing a series of concerts featuring other big names in Tuscany - I needed a reliable car to navigate this very rural area. On arrival the initial car they tried to give me (which wasn't what I'd booked) had a busted wing mirror so I had to trek back from the car park to the terminal with two large suitcases to get a different car. Within 3 hours the car had a puncture to the front passenger tire. I'm stranded in the middle of a very rural area of Tuscany in the pitch black and there is no spare tire in the car, just a lovely empty space in the boot where it should be. Some kindly locals allowed me to leave the car on their land until the morning but it was an extremely dangerous situation to be in as a woman alone. The following morning I made various attempts to contact Europcar by phone and email, to little avail. Despite having taken out their premium coverage package no one seemed to care. I am still (7 days later) waiting for the callback they said would be 20 mins. My Italian colleague also made various attempts - apparently not even speaking the language gets you anywhere. At one point I was told a tow truck would come and take it (offering no replacement) but I needed to call him back with the full details of exactly where the car was located. On trying to call back I got a message saying the number was out of service. In the end I had to arrange for a local mechanic to tow it back to their garage and replace the tire. They said the tire d was already quite bald and Europcar should not have sent that car out as it was. It cost 300 euro to get it fixed which Europcar have seemingly no interest in reimbursing. When returning the car I told them the busted tire was in the boot, a member of staff inspected the car then told me my holding deposit would be taken because the puncture constituted damage to the car, despite the fact that tires are obviously subject to wear and tear, the mechanic had stated in his report it was unfit for purpose AND I HAD REPLACED IT AT MY OWN EXPENSE. Disgusting service. Updated following Europcar’s below reply: I have already emailed customer service to no avail days ago. I have also been in the phone with customer service at 11.12am today who said this would all be logged and I would receive an email with next steps directly after the all. It’s over two hours later - no email. Seriously…

Unsafe Cars

Terrible Experience with Europcar - Unsafe Vehicle and Unfair ChargesI recently rented a car from Europcar, and it was an absolute nightmare. The vehicle provided to us was clearly unsafe, as evidenced by a spontaneous tyre burst on the motorway. This incident put my family and me in serious danger, and instead of taking responsibility, Europcar blamed us for the burst tyre and charged us an outrageous £186. This is unacceptable. We should have been compensated for the peril we were placed in, not penalised. For anyone considering renting from Europcar, think twice. Your safety is at risk, and you could be unfairly blamed and charged for their negligence. Never again will I rent from Europcar. I wish I can give negative ratings.
