Unfair Charges and Poor Customer Service

I recently had a very disappointing experience with Europcar and feel compelled to share my story to warn others. On 6 July, I rented a Tesla Model 3 from Europcar at Heathrow Airport for a week. I prepaid £394.04, which included the Basic Protection Plan. Upon arrival, I was in a rush to pick up my family and trusted the Europcar employee, Danielle, who assured me that the only extra charge would be a refundable £510 deposit. I explicitly stated that I did not want any additional insurance. To my surprise, when the invoice arrived, I was charged for:Super Personal Accident Protection: £56Selection Protection Package: £210Roadside Assistance: £77.03These charges were never discussed or agreed upon. The total amount on the invoice, including unexpected fees like a Premium Station Surcharge and various licenses, did not match the initial quote. This isn't the first time I've encountered such issues with Europcar. Last year, a similar situation occurred, and despite raising a ticket, I received an unhelpful response, forcing me to accept the unjust charges. This repeated experience of hidden costs and lack of transparency is unacceptable. I feel deceived and let down by Europcar’s practices. I urge potential customers to be extremely cautious and thoroughly review every detail before signing anything.Overall, my trust in Europcar has been severely undermined, and I won't be using their services again

Horrendous company

Horrendous company, last year had one of the rentee's smash into my vehicle whilst trying to rob a shop and on drugs! Had to pay a £1000 to repair my vehicle whilst it went through court. Court declared I must claim back the money from europcar, they have no interest in even engaging with me. Swindon branch has shown 0 interest as well. To add, sadly I have just been caught out by renting a car through Keddy Car (apparently a subsiduary of Europcar). My engineer was sick so had to change the Name, eventhough you cant contact Keddy Car, Europcar claim no responsibility, so I have just had to spend another £200 on a new rental for today whilst losing the rental before...totalling £300....Overall I have lost £1300 to these con artists. Do the right thing europcar.

Extremely slow service

Extremely slow service. I waited a total of 1 and a half hours, first in queue to sign papers and then wait for a car that wasn’t ready. Was being cleaned. I could have taken the bus and been in my destination much faster. They also charged twice what I paid for the car in insurance and took a £250 deposit. Poor service and will never use Europcar again.

Take pictures of the car when you collect and return

I ordered a car to hold me over until my new car arrived.I collected my Corsa with 1000 miles on the clock from Worcester on Friday 12 July. The car had clearly not been fully checked as I noticed that there was a crease on the offside sill.I brought this to the attention of the customer care staff who then realised it was an existing damage. After my new car arrived I returned the hire car 4 days early to a site that was near my new car pick up.On arriving, they were not expecting me even though I made a call a day earlier to check where I could leave the hire car and charged me £26 for returning it 4 days early to a different site.I arrived at their Nechells Birmingham office early on Monday morning to be told they were not expecting me, even though I was told it had been recorded. After arriving I was dismissed by the guy on the desk who said "one of our lads will deal with it" while he was clearly on a private call. The guy who checked the car found the crease and suggested it was down to me damaging the car. It was clear that when I collected the car originally, the guy who made the note of the crease put it on the wrong side of the paperwork after I pointed it out to him.Basically they suggested this crease was down to me when clearly it was there when I collected it.Their customer service is shocking and clearly leans towards charging the customer more for damage that they didn't create. I am grateful that I took a picture of the damage upon collection as this proved it wasn't my fault. There are clearly customer service training needs here.

Damage hunters on comission

Booked through a third party and apart from waiting for ages at the pickup everything was ok. The return agent went hunting for a scratch that I didn't even see what he was pointing to, he must be on commission. The scratch is'nt even visible on their return document photos. He said it was so small it didn't matter and then I was surprised with only part return of my deposit. Now I have to chase up their customer support to get my invoice to claim this back. The return agent should have made it clear it was chargeable and I should have been told I was being charged for the non existent damage.

I wouldn't go with them ever again

I wouldn't go with them ever again. We got a letter, 6 wks after hiring asking for 80 quid for 2 x admin fees for traffic violations. No proof of anything , just letters of demand, or we'll use our solicitors to obtain.( who charges that much to forward 2 emails?) Our traffic fines were overturned, we advised car company, nothing. No acknowledgement, nothing. When we hired the car, we were told we were getting an upgrade, we got an Audi, totally unsuitable for 2 of us over 6ft 3. Never again!!

Avoid Europcar at all costs

Avoid Europcar at all costs. I hired a car in Belfast International airport. They charged 187.42 to drive across the border to the Republic. The usual charge is 25.00. They are refusing to deal with my complaint. They completely ignore the points I raise in my email.

Europcar though the Easyjet website

When booking a car via Europecar though the Easyjet website on my Easyjet account, I very carefully changed the main driver to my husbands name (we have a problem in the past and wished to avoid it again). Paid for the car hire on my husbands credit card. when arriving at Manchester Airport, was told at Europcar desk that the computer was holding my name as main driver and despite our explanation that this was incorrect and that the booking was paid for in my husbands name. They refused to release the car to my husband. I did not have my driving license with me. Common sense should have enabled the man behind the desk to release the car, same name, name on driving license matched credit card that was used to book. But no, our booking was cancelled. we were told we had to claim the money back from Easyjet... he said we cannot get any paperwork to help us with our claim. how do we prove to Easyjet that we did not use the car..? He did offer to make us a new booking at £450 for four days!!

Europcar Luton airport has outstanding customer service

Renting cars tends to be an awful experience, but the two times I have rented cars from Europcar st Luton airport I have loved it. They are nice, attentive and really understanding.
