Do not rent from this company..

Do not rent from this company..Very sneaky at adding on extra costs. Customer service were also less than helpful. One weekend in Glasgow with the cheapest car available online ended up costing us £500. I will never use this company again and I would recommend nobody else does. I have rented from other companies before and have never had the issues I have with this company. The car was returned in pristine condition and I am so let down with the service I have received.

Always read the small print prior to…

Always read the small print prior to hire, from collecting a hired van for 2 days (159 miles ) a warning light appeared to high light one tyre at fault, after several attempts to inflate the tyre I concluded this was a slow puncture , I returned the van only to be told a few days later that a new tyre was fitted and was given a bill of £281 , what a scandal, never again.

Avoid!!!

The guy on the desk when we picked up the car at Bristol Airport was rude and unhelpful. He tried to charge us £500 to upgrade to a Volvo when it's in the same category of the car that we booked. After telling him we aren't paying it, he was making up different random prices to make us upgrade. He was reluctant to show us the car and said to us "I finish in 5 minutes we'll have to be quick" and he told us that we were being rude. He was more interested in texting on his phone. We were not being rude but simply making sure we take the right car that we are happy with as we had a long journey. We complained to Europcar Customer Services but we had a fob off response. We want it dealt with properly. There was previous damage that wasn't recorded on the sheet of paper and I was blamed for the damage when I dropped off the car. There was an unauthorised charge of £82 taken from my bank account. Please return the deposit and the £82. Shame really as previous times have been positive but this time has put us off going to Europcar again.

Wish I’d Checked Their Trustpilot Score First – Opaque Charges and Vindictive Billing

I really wish I’d taken notice of Europcar’s low Trustpilot score before booking, because my experience has sadly lived up to every negative review.I arrived to collect my car and was told I could upgrade for £25. At no point was it made clear that this was £25 per day and would result in several hundred pounds of extra charges. Only when I checked my credit card later did I discover the significant surcharge. When I disputed this, Europcar showed no interest in resolving the issue, gave no credibility to my complaint, and simply pushed the charges through anyway.Worse still, around two weeks after the rental had ended, they debited an additional amount for so-called “damage”. There was absolutely no damage when I returned the vehicle, but of course I can’t prove this after the fact as the drop off was out of hours — and Europcar seems to rely on exactly that. The charge felt completely arbitrary, vindictive, and impossible to challenge.Overall, this has been an extremely disappointing and costly experience. I’ll never use Europcar again and strongly advise others to check reviews before booking.

Terrible company to do business with...

I recently hired an MG HS from Europcar and the whole experience has been extremely disappointing and unnecessarily costly.The vehicle was delivered dirty, smelling strongly of cigarettes, and the windows were so badly smeared that I had to clean them myself before the car was safe to drive. In the glovebox I also found personal documentation from the previous customer, including their name and address — a serious breach of data protection and basic professionalism.During the rental I received a text message about a parking charge. I called Europcar customer services immediately and was spoken to by a rude and abrupt representative, who told me the charge had already been cancelled and no payment would be taken. When I politely asked for clarification, I was refused any further information despite asking three times.The next day, my credit card was charged anyway.When I called back, I was told to send additional information and assured the charge would be reversed. Despite sending everything requested — repeatedly — the refund was never processed. Multiple emails later, I am still being asked for information I have already provided.Overall, my experience with Europcar has been very poor, unhelpful, and costly. I would strongly advise others to think twice before using this company.

Used Europcar Heathrow Twice

I hired a rental car twice from Europcar Heathrow. First from 29.08.2025 for 10 days & again from 10.09.2025 for 2 weeks. On both occasions there were no problems. Check in and return staff at heathrow branch were curteous and effecient on both times. Yes they try to "upsell" you but that's your choice. I did upgrade on the first occasion and that made sense given the need for extra space. They suggested protecting against damage excess on second occasion but that is very expensive so arranged third party insurance instead. Europcar is one of the few major rental companies letting you take their car from UK into Europe, which I needed. This was an expensive "add on", at some £300, but was what I needed. My experience seems to have been better than other reviewers, but I would use europcar again based on how the car hire went on these two occasions.

I was overcharged at the end of my rental. They admitted their fault, but did not issue the refund. The case was lost and ignored. I will be pursuing the next stages of legal action. The money will be returned, but making it happen the hard way is not ok. Stay clear of this company if you want a stress free rental.

AVOID AVOID AVOID - THIEFS!!!!

Pre-booked and pre-paid for a small automatic car for pick-up from their Northampton office, however on arrival at the rental office on our way on holiday, I was informed that the car group I had booked was not available and they only had a large Volvo XC60 available, but that it would be £10 extra a day. I said I had already booked a small car group and paid and the answer was that it was either this more expensive car or nothing. And I should be aware that the payment already made was non refundable. I was completely held hostage and forced to sign a contract for the more expensive car, with no alternatives offered, except loosing the £200+ already paid to this company and the holiday. I did not want to drive a large car, as I am not used to driving on a regular basis and therefore wished for a small car, hence why I booked a small car. After ended rental I received the invoice where not only had they added the £10 per day, they had charged for an additional day, despite the fact I returned the car early. I wrote to customer service to complain about this extra charge, and after waiting for more than two weeks I receive a condescending and rude response, that it is my own problem as I signed a contract for the more expensive car - yes I was left no choice but to sign the contract or loose my money and cancel my holiday! This is a complete disgrace and it is clearly their business strategy of getting more money out of customers! If they cannot honour the contract initially made between us when I pre-booked the car, it should not come at a financial loss to myself, it is their fault and responsibility! And if a location doesn’t offer certain car groups, it shouldn’t be a possibility to pre-book it, they are knowingly forcing customers into a contract that they cannot honour and thereby force the customer to pay additional charges. So conclusion, AVOID, they will clearly do anything to steal money from you.

Stay away absolutely awful !!

Stay away absolutely awful !!Charged me £42 for the car rental then when I collected the car they spent 30minutes trying to upgrade my hire to a luxury vehicle for an extra £100 at midnight at Stansted airport .They then charged me over £100 to drop the car at a different office I was then charged £45 for a fine that was not mine after I showed them I was not liable !!!!Total cost for overnight car hire of a basic car was almost £200 OUTRAGEOUS JUST TAKE MONEY FROM YOU

Appalling. The wrong car was booked for me via my insurance company. I was promised it would be delivered in the morning and it arrived several hours late. It absolutely stank of vape on arrival. The delivery driver wouldn't stay to check the car with me before leaving. I was billed £177 for damage to the car following return.The system is shockingly bad. The delivery is shoddy and hurried. The car reeked. Avoid
