Review Time
Seems to be a common theme on upgrades. Don't be persuaded as the information they provide can be inaccurate. I was 'sold' a "2 grade upgrade" and a "special deal" - It was the same size category and customer services are not interested afterwards as I signed the document. But the issue in airport desks is you cannot see the car until you pick it up - pickup guy said I had to walk back 15 mins to desk to change back again (with my family who just want to go on holiday!). Waste of time and money - DON'T BOTHER WITH UPGRADES!
My daughter and son hired me a car from this company through Expedia. They paid extra for Expedia premium insurance. Expidia stated i need pay a £250 deposit. When I turned up at Gatwick airport from Latvia the representive said I had to pay £500 deposit which i never had. After a stressful wait my family transferred the extra money to my account. Europcar representive asked me to sign rental agreement which I did and they issued me a car. The car was returned 10 days later and I flew home. My £500 deposit was returned the following day. Then i had 2 payments taken from my account for £380, I found out that the representive had added premium insurance without my knowledge and after many emails to there customer service department they refused to refund the charge. I am a pensioner on a small income this has created me with financial problems. BE CAREFUL OF THIS COMPANY WATCH WHAT YOUR SIGNING FOR.
Further to my complaint - I got an email asking me to contact Europcar, they don't give you an email - it has to be done via their site. So I dutifully tried to upload my email but gave up after numerous attempts - each time having to enter all my personal details etc. I keep getting a site error message from Europcar. So email is out. They make it so hard to get a phone number and my day is now whitling away with more time wasted on this company. I do not believe they care or are invested in their complaints procedure. I did try to give them a chance to follow up. You couldn't make it up! They have emailed back again as a response to my second review and directed me to do the same thing! I think it’s an automated response, not a person. I'm still waiting to see what DiscoverCars says - they sent an email and I have emailed them - at least they gave me an email adress.
If I could give 0 stars I would. I hired a car 4 months ago and was overcharged by over £400. Before booking the car I was assured by two Europcar employees what the price was and was promised that the extra number on the paper was my deposit that I would get back. They then took the extra money out of my account and when I raised this with Customer Care they said they would speak to the Park Royal branch I rented the car from, but they never did - just fobbed me off with an email saying the case was being dismissed. I then had to go back to the branch and speak to them in person. It took 3 months of my life to finally get the money back only to then receive an email from Europcar's lawyers fining me for not paying a bill that I had in fact already paid. They also charged me for a full tank of petrol when I returned the car despite the fact that I returned it full. It seems that Europcar took money from me at every chance they had. If I hadn't spent the time sorting this I would be several hundreds of pounds out of pocket. This has caused me so much stress! What a nightmare company to deal with.
ABSOLUTELY THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVERTHEY TOOK MY BOOKING AND GOT A RESERVATION NUMBER.THEN THEY CANCELLED IT JUST BEFORE PICKUP STATING THEY DIDNT HAVE THE VEHICLE TO HIREBECAUSE THEY HAD HIRED IT OUT TO ANOTHER CUSTOMER I BET. THEY ALL NEED SMARTENING UP AND NEED TO GO ON A CUSTOMER SERVICE COURSE. NEVER AGAIN WILL I TRY THEMTHEY DONT CARE
Con merchants! Avoid We rented a vehicle from Europ car at Belfast airport, we were in a rush so signed what I was asked to sign as thought it was just a standard rental agreement, had the car for three days , filled the vehicle up before taking it back and everything seemed ok .Got back home and thought I would check my credit card transactions and noticed they had charged me £480 ! So I read through the paperwork and found they had put all these upgrades and charges on top of my original booking without my consent! So I called up customer services to complain and they also informed me that I had also been charged for fuel top up even though I had filled it up at a fuel station less than half a mile away from I had to drop the vehicle back to … very dishonest company and staff
When I hired the car at Carcasonne airport there were no apparent scratches. There was some road dirt on the car when I returned it , due to normal usage. When I returned the car they rubbed the road dirt off the car at two small isolated spots , and pointed to some hardly noticeable marks which I must have missed when I took the car ( as they were extremely difficult to see, even when they were pointed at ) They said I caused them, but I 100% did not as I am ultra ultra careful with my cars , including where I park etc at all times . The minor scratches could have been rubbed out with T cut in 10 minutes, but they have charged me £480 . Firstly I don’t believe I caused the scratches, secondly how did they just go straight to them under the road dirt on just those two isolated locations, thirdly what garage charges such high costs for a T cut type repair. I have hired cars for 50 years and never had any damage, and believe I didn’t on this occasion either. I believe Europcar have some vested interests in inventing these situations, and consequently will never use them again .
I was offered an upgrade for £40, discounted from £80. Then told I was signing just to accept the extra £40 as I had already pre-paid the rental in full. Do insist on checking through your paperwork as I later discovered I had been charged £40 per day- £570. Europcar won’t do anything, insisting it is my word against theirs even though I pointed out that logically why would I complain near the start of my rental and why would I triple my costs on a whim? Do not trust the sales agents at Gatwick airport. If you must use this company do not accept any extras at pick- up.
