We have had good meals here. I remember a lovely steak fondue some long time ago. But not today. It's very frustrating to go to a chain pub that should almost by definition have consistent food, and not know if you are going to get something that is reasonable or rubbish. Today I had a tasteless steak ordered medium rare and served well done, with chips that just didn't work, and the most basic of cheap tinned peas. My wife had a chicken mix something or other, the wings were fine, the french fries were fine, the additional coleslaw was also fine, the sweetcorn was flabby though. The pulled chicken thigh dish was loaded with piri piri chilli, with no indication at all on the menu that it was spiced up. And as my wife has a mouth condition that reacts horribly to anything spicy, she spent the meal in considerable discomfort, just from the first mouthful before we took it back. They gave her a chicken skewer as a substitute. Rather tasteless, and covered in over-cooked battery stuff. As we left I saw that the diner next to me had also left all his chips, which looked the same as mine.
We have just visited the Waterside inn in Paignton and had preordered the festive menu,. The table was all laid up ready for us. The main meal was served very hot and tasted lovely myself and my husband had the nut roast. Unfortunately the sticky toffee pudding was not available but I was able to order another sweet, because of this we had a hot drink on the house. Staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble.
Booked Christmas Day dinner online at my 87 year old Mothers local Greene King to save any cooking on the day. Paid deposit online and received confirmation of our booking so relaxed. Days later got a call from said pub stating that there is an error online and that they have been fully booked for nearly 3 months so my booking would be cancelled and refund returned. Not so fussed about the deposit but thanks to Greene King Christmas Day is ruined as no vacancies anywhere else. Very angry and upset.
Really annoyed 😒 just been to coppice wood farm near the trafford centre and witnessed some of the worst customer service / staff management i've seen for very very long time whilst most of the staff ( kay, Craig) very helpful and di their best their so called team leader Sophie saunters around looking and doing nothing to help them , she even berrated Craig on the counter in front of customers which i find totally un peofessional they are working extreamly hard . Were regular customers and sadly sophie's customer skills are left wanting , another customer asked if anyone was working on the carvery but instead of dealing with him she moved away which left him annoyed and another member of staff yo deal with the consiquences. This creates problems. Wgen my wife and i arrived we were told to use a " non reserved table" we sat at one with no sign only to be advised that it was reserved and someone had said something - complained this i suspect was sophie as she kept glaring at us . we said no problem we could move at which point a member of staff said its ok they are not due for 1.5 hours. Sophie was clearly the one who raised tbe issue but craig pointed out they we were regular customers and knew the rules. It's my feeling sophie is Not a team player or a good leader and needs to be spoken to or retrained on customer/ staff msnagement
We have been bouncing around between two Greene King pub/restaurants. The Boot and Slipper in Amersham and The Red Lion in Langley at least ten times this year. With the exception of one hideously over salted pie (sadly brought in and 'cooked' on the premises) at Langley every single dish has been excellent. The pie was deducted from the bill without question and the apologies were more than adequate. What has really impressed me however is the consistently good service. We have used the Red Lion often enough now to be to be greeted very warmly and the service at the Boot and Slipper today (we had a family get together) was little short of excellent and prompted this review. It's a good combination, reasonably priced fairly simple fare with very friendly service. So, simply, thank you Greene King staff at Langly and Amersham.
We were visiting our friend Grace. Eight of us (10 if you include 2 dogs) visited the Butter Churn, Sutton for lunch. The staff are friendly. There is a good selection of pub grub. I enjoyed a burger, and my husband had Hunters Chicken. I recommend this pub. We look forward to our next visit.
Peregrine Newcastle NE5 Went large on a curry to get bhajis and naan plus an extra popodum. Bhajis are inedible - burned on the outside and watery gloop on the inside. Complained and the guy said that’s just how they are but would bring some more. Once I’d finished the curry the replacement Bhajis came - the only difference was that they were more over cooked on the outside and still watery gloop on the inside. I’ve had this meal before and the Bhajis were fine - this is not acceptable to claim ‘it’s just how they are’ and charge extra for the privilege. Poor show Greene King.
