The product is great for monitoring blood pressure; Hilo are Pioneers in the Blood Pressure Tech space. If you care about longevity its a must have. After an initial hiccup, the lady at customer service followed through when I had given up, I am truly grateful for this and will likely buy more for the family for Christmas.
The device seems to work. Odd and awkward that it is fitted with obsolete USB connectors (A and Micro) rather than USB C. Help is frustrating - a bot that offers very limited options and poor, vague instructions (eg "access the device menu" - but how?! Before eventually offering email contact at some vaguely specified time in the future (days at least, if not weeks). As far as I can tell, even the basic functionality requires a £70 a year subscription after the first year of use. If that's the case, I won't be paying. Perhaps if you have certain heart conditions measurements every couple of hours are useful. But I think for most people using an ordinary sphygmometer every now and do then would be just as good and much cheaper.
Appalling customer service told me conflicting advice on so many occasions . Was without the working watch for weeks still waiting for a new one ! This is not a cheap product , you should receive decent back up should there be an issue ? Especially when it involves monitoring health issues. No contact number to speak to anyone so many emails going back & forth , so draining !
I ordered direct from Hilo & the monitor was delivered quickly. The instruction book is useless as the print is so tiny it is unreadable, however it is available online & that is much easier to read. The setup process was very simple & I had no problems connecting the band & cuff to my phone (android) or with calibrating the band. The band is comfortable to wear & so far (5 days) it is taking multiple readings per day & again at night.I had a query about wether or not I could calibrate the band on one wrist & then wear it on the other & someone got back to me very quickly with an answer.Initially I didn't pay for the membership, in part because I don't normally pay for anything via my phone. After a 2 or 3 days it became clear that I wasn't getting the best benefit from the band without having a membership. I don't have a blood pressure problem but I need to prove that for a dive medical & I need a list of the readings, not just an average, & I could only get the data I wanted with a membership. So far I am finding the band to be unintrusive & the fact that it takes my bp without me knowing is a real benefit.
Band untethers from phone all the time. I go in to see my daily readings and find out I have no readings. Tether it again. Get some readings, then untethers again. I have so many gaps of no readings EVERY DAY. This band and all the accessories was too expensive to have this happen. I am beyond upset. Tried reaching out to Hilo but the AI bot doesn’t have this issue as a choice of “problem”, so can’t get moved past the first question or two. Pure frustration with a few readings along the way.
I have atrial fibrillation and I discovered from the user manual that the Hilo products should not be used by AF sufferers. I then tried to use the online chat bot to return the product but this was hopeless. I then found this Trustpilot site which has an email address for Aktiia and sent an email requesting help but the email bounced as being not recognised. I am about to claim my money back from the credit card company but future purchasers should be cautious. I thought that the Swiss were trustworthy.
I purchased the Hilo about four weeks ago and have been using it regularly. During this time, I’ve also been checking my blood pressure with a traditional cuff to compare the readings. I’ve noticed that the Hilo shows results about 20 mmHg higher than the traditional one.For example, today I got a reading of 150/98 with the Hilo, while the traditional cuff measured 121/85, taken just moments apart.Since I’m using this to help monitor and reduce my blood pressure, the inaccurate readings have caused some anxiety and concern. My cardiologist will continue to rely on the traditional cuff measurements.
The equipment is nice, the instructions are clear and the app is intuitive. I have to say I am disappointed, as this device only measures if you are static. I am a software developer, and type all day, my hands are always in motion. My experience so far is that my blood pressure is only measured at night, which means that I am missing the very parts of the day where I want to analyse my blood pressure. I would be ok if the unit buzzed once an hour, so I would know to hold still, otherwise it does not serve it's purpose.
