Review Time
I have my Aktiia for a few months. my first Aktiia was faulty, but the issue was very well dealt with and i got a new device. I have been able to track my pressures with little interference and am getting reasonable readings. being a doctor I can see response to medications changes and act appropriately. I have recommended the device to some of my patients to give them more control over their own health and they seem to respond to this well and have greater participation in their treatment.
As an “Interested individual” not a patient on medication for hypertension, I think Aktiia is a great idea - however my initial three months were giving me much higher readings than my independent cuff device - which I’ve used for a few years previously. This latest re initialisation in October though seems to have put me back in line with my other cuff device readings. The Aktiia device actually noted this recent calibration was very different from earlier ones and I redid it as instructed. There are other possible reasons why my overall BP has reduced recently but it is extremely coincidental that it correlates with this month’s calibration. I’ll be intrigued to see where it goes. Even if it’s not 100% accurate it must I hope be showing any trends in a relative way.
Great device, a few important issues are missing: it is impossible to get raw data unless you write an email to support each time to receive a CSV file. The averages are misleading, the device measures only when the arm is still, so there is many more single measures during night or resting time when blood pressure is lower. Although the device distinguishes between day and night averages, it may lead to the overall impression of a blood pressure lower than it actually is. Not comparable to a 24 hour test, where measurements take place regularly in the midst of physical effort, for example, providing a more reliable overall picture.
