Poor quality Laurel hedging.

I bought Laurel rootball hedging plants from Hopes Grove back in February 2019. They don’t let you see what you are buying beforehand, but I was repeatedly assured that the plants would be as full and bushy as those shown on their web site and in the Catalogue. I was quite literally shocked at what arrived. Leggy, sparse, thin, poor quality plants, which were vastly different to what I was told I would get. The owner was totally uninterested in even acknowledging my complaint and merely offered me £100 off my £1,200 order. Eventually I negotiated some additional plants to gap out the hedge, but even now the hedge looks sparse. Buyer beware! Unless you can see exactly what you are buying beforehand, don't buy it.

Good price and good service

I ordered 15 potted hedging shrubs at the beginning of April. The website was clear, helpful and the prices were very competitive. On acknowledgement of the order I was told delivery would be in May. First week of May I was emailed regarding delivery and given tracking link. Delivery was made in a sensibly sized truck and left in the correct place. Slight problem as delivery person left only one of two parcels, but a quick call to Hopesgroves soon sorted that out. Delivery of missing box came early next day along with call from Hopesgroves checking to see that all was well. All the plants were as shown on website and in good condition.I am very pleased with the product and the service Hopesgroves have provided and will certainly use them again.

Plants arrived as arranged and they were very timely to respond the emails when I amended my order. I can't fault them and will definitely use them again based on service, price and plant quality.

Good customer service and plants, minor issue with delivery

Prior to placing my order I called to get some advice which was very helpful. The order was processed without fuss and a call received to confirm delivery shortly afterwards. I was told that I would not need to be in for the delivery and left instructions on where to leave the plants. Luckily I was in when the delivery came as the delivery truck was so large that it could not get to my drive and the driver would not have been able to drag the pallet onto my drive without my help.Overall - no real harm done with the delivery and I am very pleased with the plants.

My Worst Ever Plant Ordering Experience

On March 7, 2015 we ordered plants from Hopes Groves Nurseries, my order totaled £148.47. Approximately 1.5 weeks later, I received shipment of my order (46 plants, mainly bare roots). They looked unhealthy and fairly dry, but we hoped for the best and planted them following RHS advice.

A month later, we placed another order of bare root privet green plants, this time from Hedges direct and planted some of them right beside the privet green we got from Hopes Groves Nurseries.

Three months after our Hopes Groves Nurseries order, 80% of the plants we had ordered from them had not leafed out or bloomed at all. In contrast, Hedges direct plants were blooming beautifully.

In June 2015, we called costumer service and sent pictures of their and Hedges direct plants. They said their plants had not bloomed as there was too much competition from surrounding shrubs. However, this didn't seem to bother Hedges Direct plants, which have pumped out beautiful foliage. We requested either a refund or replacement, but shockingly the only thing we got from them was 50% off our next order!

A few days ago we were pruning some of our plants and sadly found out that the initially unhealthy Hopes Groves Nurseries plants have all died.

Moral of this story: never ever order anything from Hopes Groves Nurseries. They offer bad quality plants and even worse customer service

Poor quality plants and service

I ordered some hedging plants a little while ago and out of the 30 I bought 26 showed signs of dying within ten days. They had arrived bone dry and showing signs of distress. The village gardening club, along with myself, thought the plants were of very poor quality. When getting in contact with them I was accused of killing the plants and told to pay delivery costs of replacements. When the new plants arrived they looked a little healthier, but again were delivered in less than ideal health and worse then hedging bought elsewhere online. To date around 20 plants have been lost - 80 gbp wasted. I'll not use again
