I ordered 18 plants of Photinia Red Robin Potted Hedging 4-4.5ft 120/140cm which came to around £400. I got sent an online discount code to use but couldn't use it on this order! Postage then was £60.00 in the basket and then turned to £72.00 as they added VAT on after you have decided what to buy... ridiculous. I then got a phone call to say the size I ordered was not available and they provided the size below and would refund me the difference. The difference was apparently around £1.20 per plant.... After waiting at home all day the plants didn't turn up... I called up and the woman said she would call them and call me back immediately. No call back. I called again and got an out of office. Terrible. Wouldn't bother using again.
Sadly when my plants,Briza Media, arrived they were totally root bound into solid blocks so it was impossible to even tease out any roots. The block of roots just fell out of the pot with a few taps and was in the exact shape of the pot. I sent photos but was told that they were normal healthy plants and to tease out the roots. As any gardener knows when the roots are a solid block that is impossible. Despite the evidence Hopes continue to deny there is a problem which is like claiming black is white Very sad reflection on the company when an acknowledgement of the facts and an apology would have solved the problem
Seek an alternative company unless you want to receive a twig marketed as an “instant hedge”. Mis representation at its best. Trading standards here we come. Received this reply from the owner of the business, Morris: Dear Mrs Bater, My Office Manager has already attempted to speak to you and explain by telephone when you shouted at her and then hung up. I have a zero-tolerance policy regarding customer abuse of my staff and instructed her to send you the email below instead, to clarify the situation. That previous email was written with my guidance. Plants are living products and will vary in appearance depending on the season, particularly so with deciduous species. We have explained this and more already. At the risk of repeating myself, the plants could have been returned when delivered and still on their pallets had we been informed in a timely manner, regardless of the reason, like any good retailer. Now they have been planted we cannot be expected to take them back, yet alone dig them up as well, this is far beyond the range of reasonable responses. From my professional horticultural perspective, the plants are well developed and well branched, they fit their description and are very much suited to their purpose – I stand by them. I make that statement with 32 years’ experience founding and running this business, and some 50 million hedging plants sold in that time, as well as my professional qualification. The fact that the retained brown foliage (that provides the Winter privacy of a Beech Hedge) has mostly fallen off with weather, handling and transport is not lost on me. Neither is the fact that within weeks, if not days – the new foliage will unfurl and provide the coverage you would expect, and this is the nature of a living product. In terms of escalating the matter, I am at the end of the line, and this is my final response. I ordered nearly £500 worth of potted Laurels as they were advertised as being half price. They are very poor quality, there should have been 90% off as the quality is only 10% of what it should be. I did report this to Hopesgrovenurseries and their advice was to get them in the ground asap so they can grow. We actually cant plant them yet, and bought potted plants instead of bare root for that reason. I’m very disappointed, it’s the last time I buy from them.
Ordered approx 100 various dry root hedging plants on 3rd April. They were delivered within a week, on 10th april, as promised. Great plants, healthy and sizes as expected. (planting a country hedge). Customer service rang to inform me one variety was sold out, helped me choose a suitable replacement, and were great. Great 8nformation booklet included with everything we needed to know about best way to plant. FANTASTIC company, would recommend this company and will certainly use again. Delivery great & let me know progress all the way to my door. We have just planted the1st 40!
First time using Hopesgrovenurseries and I am very impressed, ordered Yew Hedging and the whole process was easy and the commas excellent. The hedges were bare root that I ordered and they are great quality and look very healthy.
Put in discount code, took 25% off non-sale items, then when I went to pay it said “sorry but this doesn’t appear to be your voucher” and withdrew the discount. I tried many times at the checkout to make it work, and every time I had to re-enter my details. Unfortunately on one of these occasions I forgot to make sure that the delivery address was different to the billing address, which was the default address every time I re-entered. So they tried to deliver to the wrong address, which was less than 10 minutes away from delivery address. Driver called to say he thinks he’s at the wrong address, so I gave him the actual address I wanted plants to be delivered to. He said he’d call his boss and get back to me. He didn’t get back to me, but I assumed that when the driver went back with all the plants still in the lorry, they might wonder why. Instead, they tried to deliver to the same address. Hopes grove nurseries said I would have to pay £150 to re-route. Apparently it takes a whole day to offload 6x 15l potted yews and 74 mini bare root yews. Cancelled order, but they kept £50.
I purchased 25 lavender plants, the website pictures of which showed full, robust, very much ALIVE samples. What arrived was dried-out, twiggy (albeit waterlogged) versions that were losing their leaves with a simple touch. I attempted MULTIPLE TIMES either to return them or to get some kind of monetary concession (as I was going to have to bin them or at best give them away to someone with a large garden, willing to try to resurrect them). THEY REFUSED all my attempts to find a compromise, and I wasted £125. Barclay Visa evidently does not protect perishables, so that was that.
