We were advised of a new higher rate account by Susan at Northumberland st branch of Newcastle building society. Susan was helpful efficient, friendly and inspired confidence in new account which was fully explained, we were very happy with service, Susan was a pleasure to speak to throughout. To sign in I've treble-checked every character - letters & numbers - so many times & each time they don't recognise my User ID and my password, sending me endless emails to 'reset' which never provide the opportunity to proceed. This has happened previously too! I hope (!!!) to get through on the telephone tomorrow & transfer all my savings; I wish I'd read Trust Pilot before I'd applied to join!
Awful company, badgered my parents to undertake a trust with a non FCA regulated business, which ended up going bust. NBS washed their hands of the matter “not our fault, nothing to do with us..”. It cost my parents thousands of pounds to get their house back, and could lose their life savings. Disgrace of a company, utterly shameful, benefitting from the most vulnerable to satisfy the greed of their shareholders.
I complained to Newcastle Building Society on 11 January about their failure to alert us to their concerns about the Family Trust Corporation - a concern that their "Money Manager" said he advised them to contact us about. They responded on 12 January saying "Thank you for your update and your email yesterday regarding Openwork’s response. I’ll investigate the point raised and respond back with my findings." Obviously, because they treat their members with contempt and do not take responsibility for their mistakes, I have heard nothing since. Response from Newcastle BS is to tell me to contact their complaints department - the department that didn't respond to my complaint! I have no intention of wasting my time again so have referred to financial ombudsman (whose sole purpose seems to be to misinterpret complaints in favour of the building societies). The building societies have no governance - they should not be trusted.
What a great website! I have saved with lots of different building societies over the years. The Newcastle has by far and away the most navigable and most informative website. It's as if the designer asked themselves what information a customer might be seeking, and then set out to provide it as accessibly as possible. The interest rate was very acceptable too. It's all too easy to write critical reviews, but laudatory ones are important too.
