I attend Ripley Leisure Centre in Derbyshire for Parkinson's Move and Shout. It is fantastic. The instructor, Steve, is brilliant. He pushes you but is gentle and supportive. He tailors exercises for different abilities and always emphasises safety and pushing you to extend and improve. He is very inclusive and keeps the class fun and yet a good workout. He is fantastic. More of the like please.
Whilst the facilities well adequately well kept and maintained, my life circumstances changed and then it became obvious that cancelling the membership is technically impossible through the app or the website. It took several calls directly to the health centre involved to get it done, terrible experience and should I join a health centre in the future I will not be considering these guys again!
I was a member here for about 8 months in hope it will change, the gym is good but always busy they have busy times and very busy time. But the spa is shocking at best the place smells like a bus stop, it’s a constant smell off piss and us never deep cleaned. The last think you want when trying to relax is the stench of a tramps jeans in your nose. So I had to cancel out of worry how dirty the rest of the place might be.
16/12/2026No update on the app when the pool will reopen. Just short of a week now without any swimming. Absolutely ridiculous. I also find out one of the boilers on the wet side has been broken for 6 months which matches the time the jacuzzi has been off. During the 6 months the jacuzzi has been broken the company decided to increase the monthly payment by over 30%. You really couldn’t make it up. Someone in senior management needs to get a grip of the situation at Blyth Sports Centre.I do wonder if the CEO at Places Leisure is aware of the issues at this site.
