We paid almost £400 for one night for a family room (room only, no food included) and it was one of the worst hotel stays we’ve ever had.

The hotel itself feels grim and very run down. While the room was large, it was extremely dated and clearly not cleaned to a high standard. For the price they charge, the condition of the room was completely unacceptable.

Our floor was mostly occupied by hen party groups, making it incredibly noisy. To make matters worse, our room was directly underneath an events room where very loud music continued past midnight. Even after the music stopped, furniture was being dragged around above us. This kept both me and my children awake for most of the night.

When we did eventually get some sleep, we were woken again by guests shouting and screaming in the corridors. By the morning we couldn’t wait to leave. The state of the hotel corridors summed up the whole experience – leftover takeaway containers and kebabs scattered along the hallways, which was disgusting.

When I raised these issues at checkout, the manager, Chris, showed very little interest. I was told it was apparently my fault for not complaining during the night. I was also told the hotel mainly caters for stag and hen parties, which raises the obvious question: why are they charging nearly £400 for a family room if that’s the case?

If the hotel is designed for party groups, they should at the very least separate them from families trying to sleep. With multiple floors in the building, this seems like basic common sense.

This hotel is massively overpriced, poorly managed, and not suitable for families. We were not the only guests complaining in the morning, which suggests these issues are well known. The staff seemed very used to complaints and didn’t appear particularly bothered about resolving them.

Save your money and stay somewhere reliable like Premier Inn or Travelodge instead.

This place is falling apart

This place is falling apart, there is no good reason to stay at this hotel other than its central, I’ve got a video with the shower water coming out the of ceiling, the bath knobs is a screw, the vanity unit draw has no bottom, the light switches has not button, pillows are as flat as a pancake.

Don’t waste your money on events here

Don’t waste your money on events here. We booked 8 tickets for the 80s rooftop party. It was raining fair enough we went inside. When the sun came out we all went on the rooftop but no music. I asked the security staff on floor 6 who referred me to the ground floor staff. I spoke to Holly on reception who said she was the duty manager for the Shankly Hotel. Who advised me all events are private and nothing to do with the hotel and there was only an email address for me to contact, nobody at all I could speak to about it. I said this is terrible customer service. Holly was rude, abrupt and clearly a training need here in customer service skills. As I walked away she said have a nice evening in a really smarmy condescending manner. To which I replied I won’t as your customer service skills are zero. Here is how to respond to a customer so you know for future use Holly, I’m sorry to hear your experience at the Shankley Hotel has not been a good one and I will send a message to the company coordinator to see if we can get the music on the terrace for you. Not a smarmy zero empathy it’s nothing to do with us. No wonder people were leaving by the dozen.

DO NOT STAY HERE

DO NOT STAY HERE! I warn everyone thinking about booking the shankly hotel not too! We came for my best friends hen do, paid nearly £5000. Rooms were shabby, wallpaper falling off the walls, fixtures and fittings falling off the wall.Last night we had a bath, filled just past the jets on the jacuzzi bath as advised on the wall, everything was fine. Got a knock on the door from reception to say there as a leak in the room below, came in with an engineer to have a look. She was very reassuring it was nothing to worry about and they just needed to check where the leak was coming from. She gave us clean towels to have a bath the next day also. We woke up on this morning to find £500 had been taken from my bank with no notification previous to this. I went down to reception crying as I couldn’t understand why they would take an additional £500. They told me they had a letter for us and it was to explain there was extensive damage to the room below because of the leak on our bath?! We asked to view the room that was damaged and was refused, asked for photos of the damage and was refused. Was told by the receptionist NYA that it was ONLY £500. As though £500 was nothing. To us it is! We were threatened with the police when we tried to challenge them on the issue. I’ve read reviews which I wish I did previous to this about leaking baths and leaking ceilings. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL, they are all scammers!! I’ve read the hotel owner has actually been bankrupt and the hotel is administration, sounds like they’re trying to get money any which way and means. It’s a hovel!

Mixed emotions

The Dj, Lee, was AMAZING definitely the highlight of me and my girls weekend.Johno (sorry if spelt wrong) our cocktail making master class teacher, hilarious.I can not remember all the staffs name now who helped make our weekend amazing...But the room we was very disappointed. The windows are nailed shut, balcony door had no door handle, the temperature gage for the shower was broken... the pictures are not a representation of the room we stayed in, the price definitely does not match.... I would visit again but not to stay the room was definitely not 5*

Avoid!

Windows were so unstable once you opened them they’d be hanging off the hinges! Went out and came back a few hours later and the bathroom was flooded from water leaking from the roof! Everything was soaked and the staff member who came up didn’t even seem surprised that it had happened. Was told this has happened before, and that someone above us must be having a bath.. ? Had to move rooms 9:30 at night, and were told we weren’t supposed to be in the that room. Seems there is no communication among staff. Never again

Disgusting experience

Disgusting. Room was filth, dirty floors and walls, tap fell off the wall. No bottled water in rooms. Carpets in hall not even fitted properly and also filthy. Friendly but not very helpful reception staff. Would never stay here again.

😡 BE CAREFUL when making a party…

😡 BE CAREFUL when making a party booking. Booked 1 adult, plus 6 17 year olds, received confirmation booking was accepted. Emails even on the day asking if we wanted to upgrade or check in online. Arrived 3pm on my daughters birthday, went to check in & was instantly told “we can’t check you in as there is not enough adults” followed rudely by “read our terms and conditions” They could have rejected the booking prior or emailed prior to make us aware. I was left on the street with my 17 year old crying on her birthday & and upset friends. We had no where to go and a restaurant booked for 6pm!! 😡 Worst hotel & staff who know only one sentence “it’s on our terms & conditions” !! 😡😡
