Awful experience. Unhelpful and incompetent staff.

I received a voucher for my birthday which I tried to redeem for afternoon tea. Called in Jan - earliest date for tea was this week. The receptionist on the phone seemed lovely but the booking system failed repeatedly and the line went dead three times mid-booking. Unsurprisingly, the wrong date was booked and the receptionist made an error with my email so that I never received confirmation. The result was that I’ve been charged a ‘cancellation’ fee (the full price of afternoon tea - £79/person) for not showing up (on a date I hadn’t booked) When I called the supervisor, I was told that the failures in the Ritz’s booking system/dead ‘phone lines/polite but incompetent’ ‘phone operators/impossible online booking system were all my fault. Thank you, Ritz London, for making what should have been a birthday treat into a miserable experience from beginning to end.

Excessive Minimum £23 Spend Per Person For Coffee!

Popped in on Friday 21st February 2025 with my friend for a coffee & hot chocolate. Before placing our order we were informed by the (very nice) staff that there was a MINIMUM spend of £23 per person. We thought they were joking.Who wants to fork out £46 for two hot drinks simply for the privilege of sipping them in the hotel lobby, or the bar area? We'd had lunch already elsewhere, so didn't want anything else to eat at that point - just a coffee/hot chocolate, which we have had dozens of times before at The Ritz when in London. And when we looked at the menu to see if we were prepared to 'make up' our spend to £23 EACH, we discovered that the cheapest dessert was £24. YES - £24 for a slice of cake. The powers that be at The Ritz are taking the mickey. Shame on you.We went, instead, to the Savoy, where we had a wonderful time in the American Bar - with no minimum spend. We won't step foot in The Ritz again. You have taken greed & profiteering to a whole new level.

A little well-earned luxury. Treat yourself soon !

Treated my wife to afternoon tea at The Ritz to celebrate her 50th birthday.A lovely experience, expensive, but so well done that it was worth every penny. Luxury surroundings, fantastic food and a wonderful choice of teas. We had a fantastic time and we'll be back as soon as we can. Thanks to everyone at The Ritz for making this afternoon so special. Absolutely faultless service . Treat yourself soon !

Please don't buy gift vouchers for the Ritz afternoon tea…

We got a present for the Ritz afternoon teaTrading off the past reputation is the way I'd describe thisIt was really difficult to book and eventually we got in at a compromiseI have to say at this point never ever buy a voucher for this as it's difficult to use , they are so inflexible and you've effectively only got 9 months to use it as it's a 3 month ahead booking and the voucher is short time limited so that it's in their interest for the booking to not happenThey were difficult and awkward at booking , definitely not a British afternoon tea thoughThe actual teas were good the cakes and sandwiches were ok but to a somewhat low budget . The older french man was considerate and with great style all the staff at table were good and rehearsed in this formulaWhat we found a little difficult was after having travelled a way to get there they said it would have to be a compulsory upgrade of cost with Champaign, which we didn't wantIt had a premium veneer to it but the Ritz is tired and im afraid to say after experiencing many superb relais c hotels im well versed in great afternoon tea and it's value , so at 150 each for an ok but not brilliant afternoon tea sold as quintessentially British , it was was not great value and flawedI told them in writing and they told us we didn't know what we were talking about . Pretty shocking If you want to be treated well or give vouchers go somewhere else

What an amazing experience, just perfect!

What an amazing experience! The afternoon tea was plentiful, sandwiches, cakes, scones, a whole range of teas to choose from and you could keep ordering as much as you could eat and drink. I’ve multiple food intolerances due to an autoimmune disease and this was catered for without batting an eyelid by the well trained, very smartly uniformed serving staff, who were also pleasant, friendly, helpful and really made us feel at home. The food was exquisite and we were even provided with a sturdy box to take our left overs away with us. The decor is absolutely stunning, the wonderful art deco building is a site for the eyes to feast on. It was the last day of the special Christmas afternoon teas. The Christmas decorations were out of this world. Walking into the lobby the enormous 12 foot high + Christmas tree was breathtaking. It was such a wonderful experience we would fully recommend it for a special occasion and will go again!

Overall it was great but disappointed

Overall it was magical however we haven’t gone loved the way experience of the ritz being formal. This year it was very crowded and lots of people coming in jeans and trainers. The ritz has always been a special treat as the expectation was formal wear, however this has taken the overall luxury experience away. Whilst I appreciate everyone should have access I feel with the cost you are paying for drinks, food and overall experience they should keep to the dress code of smart. I could have been anywhere. Disappointing this time. Drinks had gone up by a third and the rooms didn’t have the usual extras. We save hard for this treat and I felt quite disappointed

A bit disappointed

We went back for afternoon tea. Obviously the Ritz is absolutely beautiful and an amazing experience, however, we were a little disappointed this time. They had squeezed in so many tables that it took away some of the specialness of it which was a real shame and it felt a bit like a conveyer belt. At the end, they added a large service charge which was very very disappointing. Yes the service is fantastic but surely you pay for that in the £75 per person price anyway and we would have left a tip if we wanted to. It 100% marred the occasion. We don't think we would do it again which is a shame.
