Good food but disappointing experience

I’ve booked afternoon tea with another 4 friends at The Ritz. The location is amazing, chandeliers and paintings, perfect scenario for an afternoon tea. But I must confess I was quite disappointed with the service. As we arrived we informed one of the friends was running 15 mins late due to an invisible disability but that we had her tea order. We were sat on the table and the 15 mins passed by and no one came to attend us. I had to head to reception again and ask for a waiter and the excuse was “we thought you were waiting for the last friend”. The waiter came at the same time the last friend arrived. The food does taste really good. We finished the first set of sandwiches and sweets and started, again, the waiving game to call a waiter attention. We had to wait more than 20 mins and when we finally caught someone’s attention and started to order another 2 waiters came and nervously start telling us we would have to leave in 10 mins. We had to insist to bring us more sandwich and sweets.Exactly 10 mins later, they came with the bill and the card machine.Don’t get me wrong, they were all polite but extremely bad organised with the time. It was the first time I’ve left an afternoon tea wanting more food… I think I’ll stick with Fortum and Mason..

Great service

The service at Ritz was brilliant and I really enjoyed staying there with my family. The food was great, the hotel is located right in the centre of London, so I had a really nice stay and would recommend this hotel if you are looking to sightsee and relax in London.

If I could give it less I would

If I could give it less I would. I purchased an afternoon tea as a gift in 2019, unfortunately due to the pandemic there was no opportunity for my mother to fly from Ireland to use the voucher. In March she tried to book her afternoon tea in July when she is due to visit me and was told she had to use it by March 31st. The Ritz had changed the terms and conditions of the purchase without notifying either of us. I subsequently contacted them and was told there was absolutely no flexibility with letting her use the voucher later. Giving someone less than than two weeks to books flights to use a gift which was meant to be a special treat for her ruby wedding anniversary made the whole point of the gift null and void. What was meant to be a special treat has turned into such a source of stress. It took multiple emails back and forth, with customer service assistants completely devoid of any empathy or sensibility in order to highlight that this is not a reasonable approach. I have since been told I will receive a refund however it’s has been 4 weeks and this has not materialised. Today I am being told I will receive the refund after Easter but I will not hold out any hope. I am sorely disappointed in the experience offered by the Ritz. What is meant to be a British institution of class and luxury has in my experience been a nightmare similar to an interaction with rogue traders.

Brilliant experience

A family of seven of us went to the Ritz last week for our mums 90th Birthday. We were all seated n given a pot of tea each but unfortunately we waited about 10 minutes for the milk. There was no communication from the waiters ie your milk is going to be late we all wondered where it was. Finally one of us had to find a waiter n was told the milk was coming to us. By now our tea was quite stewed. A bit disappointing for the Ritz but that was the one n only complaint. Apart from the lack of milk at the start the service was fantastic you just couldn't fault it. We had a brilliant waiter called Sebastian who couldnt do enough for us, his personality n sense of humour was the best ever and he really made my mum's Birthday. Thank you Sebastian. There was a Columbian waiter, we didn't get his name, who was lovely also n treated my mum like a queen. The cakes, tea n sandwiches were flowing. They even gave us boxes of cakes to take home. Thank you all in the Ritz for the lovely experience and making my mum's 90th Birthday!!!

Really nice and classy touch :)

Stayed at this outstanding hotel to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The whole stay and experience were fantastic. The staff are so attentive, welcoming and helpful. Lunch was fantastic and a cake was delivered to our table at the end of lunch, really nice and classy touch. The rooms were exquisite, impeccably clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was an experience in its own right with wonderful pastries, fruit and a great English breakfast. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Unimpressed by customer service

Before Covid I bought a Travelzoo voucher for the Ritz, it was extended for obvious reasons and I had a booking for this July which was cancelled by the Ritz due to "unforseen circumstances". I rebooked for the 31st October 2021 and was assured by an employee of the Ritz that that was fine as they had extended the voucher until January 2022. Upon emailing bookings at the Ritz to enquire about the menu, imagine my surprise ro receive this email: May I kindly advise that Travelzoo has decided to refund a lot of vouchers during the past few months without our knowledge, therefore, it is my best advise to get in touch with them to see if they have refunded the voucher. If they have refunded the voucher, please be inform that the reservation will remain and we will be honouring the same experience, but you will be paying on the day. Otherwise, if they have not refunded the voucher at all, the voucher will remain as form of your payment. Kindly please bring this with you whether they have refunded it or not. I look forward to your response.Kind Regards,Janiano joined up thinking and, of course I sent them confirmation from Travelzoo that they had not refunded me - when I suggested a round of cocktails for my party by way of apology - received a negative reply. What happed to the old fashioned courtesy that the Ritz used to pride itself in. Have visited on other occasions and would advise the Ritz not to use offer vouchers if they are disinclined to service them.
