Review Time
I recently rented a car via the Alamo website at Zadar airport. The e-mailed terms stated a 300 eur deposit will be required and the collision damage waiver (CDW) would be 800 eur.In reality, the location offered only third party protection (without CDW) and the deposit was 1600 eur. Not having a CDW often invalidates car excess insurance policies.I have not been able to get an answer from support how the e-mailed terms can differ so much from reality. The car itself was fine. However, because of the risks as outlined above, I would avoid Alamo and Enterprise, at the very least in all of Croatia.
Appaling and unfair approach to assessment of "damage" on return of car. Apparently there was damage to one of the tyres. It was not clearly visible and only just detectable running fingers all over the tyres. There is no way of knowing if it was there when we took the car. They did not provide a close review of tyres when we took the car. They say it wasn't "as the car would nit have been given out if that mark was there". Oh right, that must prove it then.... They of course have no way of proving that. Disgusting way to treat customers and we most certainly won't use them again. Treat your customers with respect Alamo not as simply a way to milk what you can.
Waited more than 30 minutes to get the car, eventough I arrived 1 hour later then reserved. And gave me a car which was out of Adblue after 1 hour and approx 60 miles of driving. And charged me fuel for 1 litre of diesel plus administration fee becuase the tank wasn't 100% full.
Picked up car in Vancouver and paid extra for a Sat Nav which was not charged. When this was pointed out we were told to “charge it” which was the old “Tom Tom” Sat Nav. This never worked at all during our holiday. We dropped the car off at Banff and were charged a “drop off” fee of 300 Canadian Dollars. We were informed that the car had to be returned to Vancouver and that this charge covered the transportation back from Banff. However during a conversation when we dropped the car off my husband asked the gentleman if they waited until they had a few cars before returning them to Vancouver. At this point the gentleman informed us that the car would not be returned to Vancover but would be hired out from Banff. We have asked Alamo for a refund of the “One Way Drop Off Fee” which they have refused. Obviously most customers are not aware of this.AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS
Not refunded my deposit after a month. (Alamo Varna Airport Bulgaria) Instead of blocking the money they actually withdrew it from account also. Unless a refund is imminent I will need to report it to my credit card company as fraud and commence a prosecution. Stay well away!
I rented a car from Stansted airport the salesman advised me to get super cover , I ask what is super cover the salesman tells me it covers everything incase you damage the car. I end up paying for the highest level of cover that apparently covers everything incase car is damaged. I then get contacted week later being told front bumper was scratched I owe them money. I refused to pay because I was told clearly at Stansted airport car hire that the highest level of insurance covers everything nothing to pay if car is damaged. When I collected the car they told me they didn't even have to do a walk around check because I had super cover it didn't matter. "No matter what happens you don't pay anything extra" they were salesmans words. Next time I go there I'm going to record them because this is what they say to everyone but clearly it's a lie.
