Toughest mussels I've ever tasted.

Visited Cote Kensington with a friend for dinner last night. Very disappointed with food and parts of the service. Moules were tough, chewy and vastly overcooked, possibly reheated after initial steaming. Steak Frites - usually very nice - frites were great but steak was lukewarm on verge of being cold. Table soon became cluttered with empty bottles of beer. They were very busy but should not have let standards fall to this extent as a result. Waiting staff very nice but run off their feet.

Côte need to accept that cash is legal tender in the UK!

Visited Côte Woking for the first time in a while and was very underwhelmed with the food which was served at a tepid temperature, by two very overworked but friendly waiting staff who were attempting to manage the whole restaurant breakfast service on their own. Two things that impressed the least was the automatic addition of service charge rather than leaving this to the discretion of the table (especially for a small group). Also the refusal of a cash payment. We do not live in a cashless society and cash is legal tender in the UK, therefore it should not be refused. Also this wasn’t explained prior to our starting our meal, so had we not had an alternative method of payment it could caused even more of an issue.

We had a fantastic evening celebrating our anniversary at Cote in Covent Garden. The staff were all so friendly and the food was excellent. I’m going again next week to celebrate a friends birthday.

Coeliacs, please beware

Although Cote served my daughter food from the gluten-free menu, she left the restaurant and within 2.5 hours she had all the telltale signs of gluten poisoning and spent the night vomiting. We hadn’t realised it, but the Coeliac UK accreditation doesn’t mean much when they are, in part, funded by restaurants like Cote, and especially when they allow the restaurant itself to conduct their own internal “investigation”. Coeliacs, please beware.

Not safe for Coeliacs!

Used to enjoy and feel confident eating at Cote restaurants, but having been gluten poisoned they are DEFINITELY NOT a safe place for Coeliacs.Tellingly, I have tried adding warning comments to a couple of their Instagram posts, which Cote immediately delete. Super frustrating, as I think other Coeliacs should be able to make a fully informed decision when deciding where to eat, and the potential risks involved. Also, I hadn’t realised this, but the Coeliac UK accreditation doesn’t offer a guarantee that you won’t be glutened. There is a lack of transparency as Coeliac UK is, in part, funded by restaurants like Cote. This is a major conflict of interest, especially when Coeliac UK allows the restaurant itself to conduct their own internal “investigation” which unsurprisingly reveals no evidence of wrongdoing. Coeliac Tip: I highly recommend taking activated charcoal when eating out - it certainly doesn’t stop you being glutened, but for me, it helps.

Lovely staff; food needs improving

This review is for the Basingstoke restaurant. The staff were lovely and made our visit - thank you for your amazing service. You get 5 starsThe food was OK and gets 2 stars. My chips were served tepid. Interestingly, exactly the same thing had happened at our previous visit and both times we had to ask for a fresh portion. My side salad had a lovely dressing on it, but, as at our previous visit, had some black (rotten) leaves mixed in which was a bit yukky.I didn't love the chocolate mousse which was supposed to be dark chocolate but had so little chocolate in it, that it was almost white in colour and completely tasteless. The rose wine was really lovely and I would definitely reorder this one if we went back again. My daughter had the sea bass which she really liked and then a cheese selection which she loved. To improve:1. Cook the chips at the same time as the other food you are serving on the table so they don't go cold.2. Don't serve salad leaves that are so old they've gone black and mushy.3. Don't describe a chocolate mousse as dark chocolate when it's got so little chocolate in it's actually a white colour. Just call it chocolate mousse and then you're not misleading customers.4. Give your staff who were working Saturday 26th April during the afternoon a bonus - they worked hard and made our visit! Thank you to everyone who was so helpful.

Lovely balance for any Occassion!

Had a lovely experience at Cote in Peterborough PE11XH. The staff were friendly, the food arrived promptly, and everything was delicious. I especially loved steak Tartare starter which was perfection. Added surprise for me was the dessert wine and desserts, they were absolutely delightful. Pricing was great too: 2–3 courses for under £25, and kids eat free. Great value and family friendly.
