No customer service and shocking wait times

We arrived and waited a longtime to be seated I had booked through open table and had a notification later I hadn't shown up which we had. It took a long time to get menu's and a drink order, we had to ask three times for the table water, our wine came during our Main and not before our starters arrived. We asked the waitress about friends joining us for drinks after our food and she said this was fine, during our sitting both waitresses left their shift leaving one waitress to run the whole restaurant and a very scruffy dishevelled man. We tried to order drinks when our three friends arrived but after 30mins of them not arriving we decided to leave we now waited another 30mins for our bill which was wrong as it had someone else's drink order on it and had to be corrected only for another long wait. Really disappointing as the food was good but you cant expect one member of staff to run a whole restaurant and give good customer service and also charge a service charge for ZERO service :(

High prices, especially for sides

Pleasant restaurant and service. The prices are too high these days: the sides were £4.50 and £5.75 - the latter for about five small stalks of tender stem broccoli, a tiny portion and a silly price. I think that customers are leaving: on a Saturday evening the place was only half full.

Service was okay except the waiter was…

Service was okay except the waiter was making jokes which we did not find funny. The food was good but after having a 3 course meal I was still hungry. I went home and had a toast with peanut butter on it. We paid about £240 for 4 people so it was not cheap.

Staff very professional. Excellent service.

I had the Fixed Menu at lunchtime. The charcuterie was not as good as normal and of the three pudding choices 2 were with chocolate. The food was not up to the usual standard. However Matt and Ulita were extremely professional and did not charge us for our starters. They also explained about the electrical works taking place next door and their limited menu.

Customer Care lacking at Cote

I was part of a large group and found the food hot and tasty. Every time I visit the St Katharines Docks my drink is wrong. I flag it up and Im told thats all we have got. So you have 3 types of house soda not available and no sparkling water then. No just fever tree bottled water plonked opened and the server walks away hoping I wont notice. This happens every time I visit and I stopped ordering white wine by the glass as I get the wrong grape not the one I selected. No explaination until I flag it up. Yes thats all we have got. Its all lies as I can see other tables with sparkling water . Im the paying customer if you dont have something tell me and let me decide the alternative. Also I wanted 3 courses but was told I was too late I should have ordered it at the start . Well maybe I just used to restaurants that allow customers to decide after 2 courses if they want a 3rd. You would think if you were paying you could have what you wanted. Not so at Cote the young servers dictate it all and hand you the bill.

The first thing you notice about this restaurant after you are seated, is the actaul cold of the place. Unless you are sitting under a ceiling heater, the place is uncomfortably cold. I ordered from the Gluten free menu, which looked promising. The French onion soup when it arrived, was cold - no melted cheese on top and a hard slice of gluten free bread. I asked the manger to rectify the matter, and when it arrived back still without the cheese layer, it was clear it had been put in a microwave to be reheated. They added a scrapping of cheese to the already hard and cold slice of gluten free bread. So Zero points for the starter - PoorMain course was burger and chips, which again was not hot, but warm. At this stage I was so hungry and cold I just needed food. I would not recommend this restaurant - on a cold, wet afternoon you want a warm cosy restaurant with hot food.I did visit the toilets, which were clean - but freezing cold, even colder than the restaurant.Overall very disappointing experience and definately not value for money. Wrap up well if you still plan to visit.

Very poor!

What has happened??? Always had a great time at Cote Exeter, not this time! We had booked a table for 7, but we were crammed into a table for 6. The service was appalling, we had to ask for drinks, water, and refills. The food was hit and miss with some of the groups food ok and some very poor. Staff didn’t care when we told them. They spilled oil on the table when putting down the dipping oil, we had to ask them to clear it up. They then had the cheek to try and charge 10% for service! We asked them to remove that element of the bill, which they did, but even then did not ask why, or apologise for our experience. This was the complete opposite of our previous experience, staff have always been amazing, food has generally been good.

Good food but overcharged

I visited Cote in Exeter with eight friends for a birthday celebration. Food was excellent to be fair, I ordered pumpin soup followed by sea bass. Some friends ordered mushroom caserolet (not sure about spelling) strangely it came with sausage though both had specified no meat. The two courses were £17.95 (as advertised on line and on the menus on the table) but we were charged £18.95, also we were charged more for drinks than advertised on the menu. I pointed it out to the cashier who responded with ‘oh, that’s the price from the old menu’ ?? A senior came over and told me that ‘I needed to go downstairs for a refund’ I duly went there, the senior then said ‘so you want a £1 back’ (no apology) I had to say no, I want the £1, plus the overcharge for the drink and the service charge refunded as it was based on an incorrect amount. My eight colleagues were too embarrassed to claim a refund. An apology would have been appreciated. Our group was ex Customer Service members of a local authority, we would not hesitate to apologise to a customer on behalf of our employer

Food was tasteless and bad quality

WINCHESTER COTE BRASSERIE . Food was tasteless and bad quality. Waiter did not help when asked about a meal. We had our drinks that were still half full taken away didn’t notice until I looked for it as I was talking with family. We were rushed. Waiter was clearing table when we were still eating. Very expensive for poor meal. My suggestion is find somewhere else to go as you will be disappointed. We were there for a birthday celebration and we were let down. We will not be returning! I have tried to contact reviews at cote like you say but it says invalid! I cannot contact you! I am trying to!

Not a good experience after a family loss

After losing a close family member a couple of days myself and my wife decided to go into York to COTE and treat ourselves to a breakfast. Although the service was average, we did wait a considerable amount of time for our food. When it arrived it was only barely warm. My wife's poached eggs were solid, the beans were cold, and the sausages were cold. we had to ask for additional items such as butter and condiments. For the price of the breakfast etc I thought the food would be of higher quality.
