They use extremely scammy buisiness practices, such as making it purposely hard to cancel your membership or having cancellation periods that are longer than the contract itself (pretty sure this one is illegal, too). They also wanted to charge me an amount, which neither the workers in the gym nor the support via email could explain. I mean come on, if even your own workers can not explain how the payment amount is calculated, something must be wrong. I guess they know, because after refusing to pay there was no follow up. The gym itself is not bad, but with these issues I can only recommend to stay away
Hygiene in the showers and toilet is always poor. Water in the shower mid-January is cold! I understand the prices of hot water but if you decide to provide a service must be decent. Absolutely nobody wants a childish shower after working out....in January
TLDR = RUN - they are thieves!!!On November 15, 2024, I visited the Loosduinseweg SportCity branch to inquire about a gym membership. I explicitly requested a flexible, month-to-month subscription that I could cancel at any time without incurring additional charges, as I frequently travel abroad. The staff assured me that their 4-week “Flex” membership met these criteria. Based on this information, I signed up for the “Flex” membership.Following the staff's instructions, I canceled my membership within three weeks via the app. The app confirmed the cancellation, and I traveled abroad for over a month. Upon my return, I renewed the membership, only to discover that:I was charged €87.12 for two months of membership that I had canceled and was not using. When I attempted to terminate the renewed membership immediately, I was informed I would still be charged for an additional month. These charges contradict the information I received at the time of registration and during my discussions with SportCity staff. Nowere on the website they provide these informations. No terms, no nothing.I also did not use any SportCity service during this time.I made complaints at consuwijzer nl - the nl consumer protection (they responded they have not much things they can do, just if there are many people complaining), then I wrote to ministry of sports. I really consider acting them in justice for how much distress they caused me, I just failed an exam because I cannot concentrate on anything else.
TLDR = RUN - they are thieves!!!You enter theyr site, pick a monthly subscription, they take you to the payment, NO TERMS WHATSOEVER. Then you discover you are hoocked for 1 year. They don't respond to emails and there is nothing you can do about it. After a whyle they are sending a debt collecting agency o you. MINDBLOWING this happening in a western country.
Easy registration, but super difficult termination. Then, as soon as you terminate the contract, you have to pay not only for the whole month, but also, the next month! Why?! No matter if you have provided with the documents that they ask for, it is just not a clean business.Besides, the gym has only a few machines, and you have to always wait long for every single machine that you want to work with. The cable machines are always taken and you either have to wait 10 minutes to get the machine or you do not get to work with them!
After reading so many really bad reviews about SportCity's poor communication, I can only commend the Linneaushof team/branch on their prompt and friendly response to my enquiry regarding a (measly 3 euro) deduction after I had cancelled my membership and Yanga subscription.
Misleading Contract Terms & Hidden Charges - Be Aware!Absolutely terrible experience. I signed up for what I thought was a monthly cancellable contract, only to find out after I decided to cancel that the contract was locked for the first year. They never clearly mentioned this upfront, leading me to believe I had the freedom to cancel anytime with no extra fees. Only when I tried to leave did they inform me that my contract terms had changed and I’d be hit with an additional charge.Their response? A canned message from “customer support,” claiming it was all in the terms and conditions and refusing to refund or even acknowledge their misleading practices. This company hides crucial information and charges you unexpectedly when you try to cancel—stay far away if you want straightforward service without the runaround.
They do not respond to emails . I tried to cancel my registration within the 14 days cooling off period , but they do not have this option on the website or the app. 5 days after I registered , they put an order to debit my account , ideally they have to wait until the 14 days cooling off period is completed.
