Please don’t buy into this scam! Unfortunately we did and now we are unable to get out. We were made a lot of promises and were really excited to use our new ownership but we were sold lies. On top of paying our fees, our payments, it’s now almost another $700 to STAY at a resort as an OWNER not the $149 you’re told. Lies, lies, lies. Also they will not buy back your condo. You are forced to pay it or have it go into foreclosure. Terrible company
I had a terrible experience with Westgate and I feel compelled to share it with others. They lied to me, damaged my credit, and refused to let me out of the contract when I first requested it back in 2021. This was after they had tricked me into attending a sales pitch under false pretenses, only to pressure me into purchasing a timeshare I never wanted or needed. When I was dropped off by their personnel, I was told that I had won a prize and that the meeting would last for 90 minutes. But as soon as I got there, I realized that it was a sales pitch for a timeshare. I was coerced into paying a $40 refundable fee for a prize I had won and then was repeatedly lied to about the goal of the meeting. Even after declining the timeshare several times, they refused to take me back to my hotel. The sales rep told me that I could be an owner of a property, how I could make a lot of money from it, and pass it on to my children and grandchildren. She went on to state the benefits of having one and how I could earn referral rewards. After a lengthy tour of the hotel rooms, I was finally told about the price of owning a timeshare in Miami, which was a whopping $33,000 for a vacation for one week per year. When I declined, they pressured me into accepting an offer for a timeshare at Palace Resort in Orlando for $9,000, with no clear explanation of the terms and conditions. After signing the paperwork, I realized that there were some issues with the contract that were not explained properly, such as the maintenance fee of almost $1,000 every two years and the monthly mortgage payments. I was paying all this ridiculous maintenance fee just to use a property for a week while paying a monthly mortgage on the property. I could simply save my money and take a well-deserved vacation. I contacted Westgate to let them know that I wanted to cancel the contract, but they refused to let me out. They claimed that I needed proof that I was lied to and that they did nothing wrong. They even damaged my credit by reporting me as delinquent on payments that I never should have been responsible for. It's been a nightmare trying to deal with them, and they've completely ignored me. When they don’t ignore me, they ignore my concerns. Overall, I regret ever getting involved with Westgate. They took advantage of me and lied to me every step of the way. I urge anyone thinking about purchasing a timeshare from Westgate to reconsider and avoid them at all costs.
To say we are beyond frustrated with our Westgate timeshare would be an understatement. We feel betrayed and taken advantage of all because we were tricked into attending a “mandatory” presentation. This all started when, in May 2019 when a salesman explained to us that Westgate timeshares were highly profitable due to their close proximity to Disneyland. This gave us the impression that we would be able to easily rent out our timeshare for a profit to guests visiting the park. In addition to that, we would also be able to use our timeshare anytime throughout the year and could even stay at other Westgate properties. We were also told that we were purchasing a 1-bedroom unit. This is what lead us to purchase, but those were all lies! A year later we booked our first stay. They checked us into a studio unit, not the 1-bedroom unit we thought we had purchased. On one of our more recent stays, we traveled to the Westgate Lakes location. We attended a presentation and were told that we needed to upgrade to a room at the Lakes location because it held more value than the other Westgate locations. She said the reason we had to pay so many fees at other properties was because we weren’t owners at the Lakes location. After returning home we called their corporate offices to corroborate this information, and we were told that this was completely false. This timeshare is worthless. We never would have gotten involved if they were just honest about everything!
Don't get involved with timeshare, in fact, avoid it at all costs. I am a retired veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and my wife and I were taken advantage of by Westgate Resorts. We were approached by a guy who offered us free tickets to SeaWorld and Aquatica if we were to sit through a presentation. My wife and I thought nothing of it and figured why not, if it was for free tickets. The representative used my serving in the Marine Corps to say that he can offer us a discount because I am a veteran. These people were relentless and could not take no for an answer. Their presentation ended up being a relatively high pressure sales pitch to get us to become members. These people really know how to make it out as if what you are purchasing is of any value. We are spending more money on this worthless timeshare contract when booking a room on their website would be a lot cheaper. After our presentation we get endless calls to upgrade and come back for another presentation. We are consistently declining their offers and wish we never made the mistake of allowing them to pressure us into buying a timeshare. These people are relentless, and I strongly recommend staying away from anyone who is trying to get you to attend their presentations. Save your money and save up for a trip instead. Its less expensive and doesn't really matter if you own a timeshare or not because booking is open to everyone, timeshare owner or not. Just trust me and save your money.
We have unfortunately found ourselves tied up in the mess that is Westgate timeshares. We were visiting Branson, Missouri, when we were invited to attend a presentation at the Westgate Branson Woods resort. They did everything they could to disorient us by sending multiple sales agents to our table to discuss and throwing all kinds of information out without enough time to understand all of it fully. They then gave us an ultimatum, either decide on the “great” deal now or walk away and lose the “great” deal. Looking back, we wish we had walked away. The presentation took over 3 hours of intense back and forth, and we ended up buying because of the words of their sales agents. They talked all about the great benefits and there being no negatives. Boy was that wrong. This whole experience has been negative. Since the pandemic and now that we have retired, our budget has not allowed us to continue pouring money into the never ending costs associated with this timeshare. Westgate has not taken this into consideration at all and has instead just threatened to foreclose on us and impact our credit even further. So they allow their employees to flat out lie to you and get you locked into a contract. Then, from there, they will not help you out at all and will instead just foreclose on the account and treat you as poorly as they can in the process. Just avoid the mistake altogether. Nothing they say is worth the stress they will cause you and your family. Rhett Hamiter
Our journey with Westgate Resorts has been nothing more than a nightmare. We feel utterly scammed and taken advantage of! It all started when we stumbled upon a 4 days and 3 nights vacation package at Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort Gatlinburg, TN for $99 online! My husband called and spoke with the customer service rep to verify the authenticity of the package; this innocent conversation turned into our nightmare we are experiencing now! They said there will be a quick meeting for their guests that would only last 90 minutes. We were not informed this was a timeshare poly until we were in the meeting. The meeting was mandatory for both my spouse and my self, or we would've been charge $500. The meeting lasted 6 long hours! The sales agent bombarded us with small talk! He presented us with a $60,000 purchased price we said "no", he left and came back with his manager. They painted the picture the property would pay for itself, if we look at the cost of trips we are planning to take. They played on our emotions, and continued to state the units want last long and they are selling fast. Once they found out I was a healthcare worker, they seized the opportunity to make promises, thanking me for my service and dropped the price to $25,900. The agent showed us a specific unit, then told us it was sold after we toured it. A few months later, we received a call from Westgate Resorts, Ltd. Florida stating a mistake was made in our original meeting, so they upgraded us to a 3 bedroom unit. We were billed $1400 for a maintenance fee; 7 months after signing the contract! We couldn't use the property until January 2023 this is the same month we were bill the maintenance fee! We are paying a monthly payment and have never used the property. We have filed a formal complaint to get out of the contract! Westgate Resorts have displayed deceptive practices. Please do not fall for their tactics. They pressure you and sell lies. We have been betrayed and violated. This is a ongoing detrimental experience with mental anguish.
Arrived at hotel to find a nasty hidden resort fee "surprise" of $141 for 5 nights. The Priceline reservation showed "paid in full" and if a resort fee was required upon arrival it would have been showing on a separate line item. The desk clerk gave me all sorts of attitude upon checking in and checking out about this as if I was stupid. A manager promised to refund 2 of the 5 days because of the inconvenience and said he would note my account. He never bothered to get back to me.
During our vacation in Las Vegas in July 2021, my family and I checked into the Westgate resort in Las Vegas, only to be greeted with a barrage of harassing offers—coupons and free lunches—if we agreed to attend a timeshare presentation. The representative insisted this opportunity was exclusively for married couples, making it clear we wouldn’t be eligible since we were traveling with another couple who weren’t married. However, when we expressed our intention to decline, they quickly backtracked, claiming they could make an exception for my cousin and her partner. It felt like a calculated tactic to lure us in, masking the true nature of what we were stepping into. Unfortunately, over time, the payments and maintenance fees became a significant burden, especially after my cousin chose to back out and stopped contributing her share. Another area where we felt misled was the assurance that maintenance fees would remain stable; instead, they began to rise, and we learned that our children would be left holding the bag for these escalating costs. The mounting confusion, pressure, and misinformation made it increasingly clear that we needed to rid ourselves of this timeshare nightmare. All our interactions with Westgate Resorts salespeople have been marked by deception and misinformation. We were given fabricated time constraints to make a purchase, provided a deceptively affordable quote, and then not provided with crucial financial details at the time of signing. This was presented to us as an investment in real estate, but it is clearly not. We are absolutely fed up with the lies, and we have demanded to be released from this contract immediately. Westgate Resorts are void of all professionalism and ethics in our opinion.
