Rented a car in Keulen first there was a hidden fee of 90euro but the real scam came when we brought back the car. There was already a bit in the front window - pictures and the damage paper showed that but the lady kept telling us that there was one next to it. I asked her 5 times to show me but she refused and sent us to the reception. Took 6 pictures and there was nothing ! only the old one. Got a bill for 1800 euro ... really. Clearly that is their business model - affordable rental prices and get back at the end. Never again !
They did not accept our ensurence from booking.com. so we had to buy a new one, which were 4 times as expensive.And they did not mark witch area we couldn't drive, and afterwards we had to pay 500 euro i fee. (They threatened us they would call the police if we did not pay and that we might not would catch our plane)
Wheego Wuppertal - ScamCar pick up was okay. Paid at the till, including the deposit. Brought the car back. All okay.This was 8th of July 2025. I just received a letter from a collections agency that I have to pay double, because "I didn't pay the bill" with Wheego. No calls, no emails, no bills, no "I'm sorry, but in the end the payment didn't go through, we made a mistake", but a "pay now or your credit score will be affected", which it probably already is. So because of these scammers, my perfect credit score now has issues. And trying to contact them through customer support will probably not do anything.
Rented with Wheego at Malaga. We were given the wrong directions to find the pick up point so wasted time. Also during holiday we had a nail in our tyre. We had taken out the extra insurance and were told this cover included break down cover. However Wheego did not resolve the issue and told us it was our problem to sort out. Extremely rude on the phone to us with no customer service evident! We were told that we would get our insurance premium of 250 euros back because of the inconvenience. However 2 months later we are still waiting for reply to an email. Also called to chase but told that we just have to wait and I was cut off!! DONT RENT WITH THESE PEOPLE!!
Wheego = Scam. €900 stolen after clean return!I rented a car from Wheego (via Rentalcars/Booking) at Cologne Bonn Airport in June 2025.Returned the car (Toyota Aygo) via keybox, no damage, no report.A few days later, they kept €900 from my card without ANY proof, photos, or explanation.I contacted Wheego and Rentalcars: NO reply at all.Wheego didn't even tell me what damage I had caused, despite all my requests for an explanation.This is pure fraud: cheap rates upfront, then they steal your deposit afterwards.⚠️ Avoid Wheego at all costs.⚠️ Shame on Booking/Rentalcars for promoting such a scam company.
So sad I did not check this review page before booking. SCAM COMPANY - STAY AWAY.Booking made in Wheego Liverpool airport, UK.- I booked directly through their website- I booked the full insurance through their website (which was doubling the rent rate, no problem till there)- I called them upfront to ask if it was possible to leave the deposit with a debit card, their answer: "no problem, we take care of our customers".- they charged my card 1500 POUNDS for this "service of having no credit card".- when asking the invoice, they could not issue it, and in the end after asking 4 times by phone to send the invoice, they put this amount under "luxury package", which I never asked, and also never got. Just got the car that I rented through the website....Crazy how these people can even operate legally in many European countries.Long story short: STAY AWAY !!!
Don’t use these slimy crooks, they will fleece your insurance company and cause you a great deal of inconvenience along the way if you let your guard down and allow them to find the smallest damage to the car that you haven’t caused and the sort of damage that a reputable company would ignore. My experience was at the Alicante branch and seems to be common with many others, it’s a shame that Stressfree car rental use these fraudsters.
AVOID THIS RENTAL COMPANY. I rented for 3 days a car from the WHEEGO company. When i pick up the car , which the employ would deliver to us, it was a 2018 model, full of bumps, scratches and dents. I pointed out to the employ that because it was dark and the car was wet, it was not possible to note all the dents on the contract. He replied that we will mark the most serious scratches and the rest we will not mark. After that they hold a deposit of 6,000 RON (€1,200) on my credit card. He also pointed out to me that if I don't return the car washed and clean he will charge me €150.00. After that i returned the car washed and clean to the facilities of the WHEEGO. The employ who was going to pick it up (different from the employ who delivered the car to me), started recording all the scratches the car had, even the smallest ones that were barely visible to the naked eye. I explained to him that his colleague, because it was impossible to record all the scratches and dents, noted the most important ones. This particular employee, who also had a bad attitude towards me, wanted to forcibly attribute some of the scratches on the car to me. I explain to him that I took too care of the car and didn't do any damage. Finally he assured me that everything is fine and in the next few days he will release the 6,000 RON deposit from my credit card. I was surprised to find in the following days that the deposit was not released from my card but I was charged the full amount (6,000 RON ). I tried to contact the WHEEGO company on the phone and by email , with no result. After 2 weeks I received the answer that the warranty (6,000 RON ) was indeed withheld because they found (after I handed over the car), two very small dents, one on the front hood and one on the roof of the car. They estimated the damage at 4,675.55 RON (€935.11), and together with the administration fees the total amount they charge me is: 5,240.20 RON(1.054,15€)out of the 6,000 RON (1.200€) of the deposit and they will refund me 759.80 RON(152,84€) . I do not recognize the attribution of the damage and I ask to be refunded the deposit that was illegally charged to me. I believe it is common practice to rent cars at a very low price in order to withhold the deposit from customers accusing to them some minor damage. If there was a negative rating I would give it to them.I have already filed a complaint to the local authorities.
