wheego is a scam

Scam : In the small print there is that credit card needs to be valid for 12 months. So mine was 4 months when collecting the car. They said if we took an additional insurance of 60€ per day they would accept the card.No refund. We hired with other companies without problem.Never wheego again they are stealing your money, scammers

Wheego car rental. Avoid at all costs they a running an insurance scam

Hired a car from the Manchester base operating from the Clayton hotel, 10 September to 14 September.I had taken full insurance out with another company prior to collecting the car.The car was a Corsa, 2025 plate, very few miles on the clock. Great car. However, on the 12 September 2025 the car had a puncture. I contacted the Manchester branch and was advised to have the tyre replaced with one of the same make and standard.I contacted a local tyre company in Penistone who looked at the tyre and said they would have to order a new tyre of the same standard and it would be there on the 13 September. I left the car in the garage overnight and left a contact number for them to ring once it was replaced. The cost of the replacement was £150 which included a new valve and balancing. There was slight damage to the wheel rim which they estimated to cost between £80-£110 pounds to repair.I returned the car on the 14 September 2025, after a long discussion I was told that £840 would be taken from my credit card whilst an accident report was been generated. If the repair cost was lower I would be reimbursed with the value. They said i would have a report by Friday 19 September.I contacted them by phone on Monday to say that the report had not been received, they sent me an email address to request the report and said they would respond within 24 hours, they did not respond as stated. i sent a further email, 24 September, requesting the report, the report arrived at 17.59.Looking at the report I noticed the followingCredit card charge £840Cost of repairs £842.50Coincidence?Breakdown of costsLeft front tyre replaced £197.31New valve £3.04Left front wheel £169.34 (no detail of repair)Total £369.69They are saying that they replaced a brand new tyre with less than 60 miles on it for another new one. However, I have to question their report as it states that the tyre wear on each front tyre was exactly the same.I phoned the Manchester branch to complain about the report was interrupted several times when explaining my concerns and had the phone put down on me.A few minutes later Ibrahim contacted me and we discussed my concerns to which he basically said that they have to replace new tyres with new tyres because its policy.I said he was taking nonsense and that what they are doing is nothing short of a scam. They have matched the repair costs to the amount taken off my credit card, they said that the car would go back to the leasing company for an accident report, it went back to a company called Fix Auto Worsley.I will report them to Trading Standards by sending them my - videos, photos, invoices and reports.I will also send the same information to the Insurance company I used for Full Protection.Read customer reviews on Trustpilot where they score a rating of 1.3. They have numerous reviews with clients raising the same issues🤕🤕🤕 They have 1630 reviews and the best the can do is score a rating of 1.3 😈😈😈😈😈😈😈

OPLICHTERS ZIJN HET.Rented a car at Manchester Airport for a two-day trip to Liverpool. Because we had an early flight back, I had to leave the keys in a key box. I had to park the car in a dark, unlit parking lot. Because I hadn't received my deposit back after three days, I sent them an email. To my surprise, I received a reply saying they had tried to call me about something related to the terms and conditions, asking me to call them. During the call, I was told the car had been damaged during my rental (the car was in a private, enclosed garden). They would immediately send photos and further details of the damage. The deposit (€1,750) would not be refunded. The call was abruptly cut off, saying it was my problem.Unfortunately, I never heard from them again. I'm now taking legal action to resolve the matter.Advice: don't do business with these scammers and fraudsters. You'll be ripped off!!!Although Wheego suggests below that they're taking the matter seriously, I received a message a few days later with a meaningless copy of the intake form and the attached message that the matter has been handled for them. There was no response to my request for verified photos (which they couldn't/won't provide). THEY ARE SCAMMERS.

Car o.k., customer relation management poor, small print important

In 10+ years of renting a car something like every two months on average for business or personal life, I've never had an experience remotely as strange as this one. Renting through a portal giving a competitive price, I must have mis-clicked thinking I rented at one of the big players I have tons of experience with, or I wouldn't have ended up at Wheego Mobility—every newbie in my book gets cross-checked on Trustpilot, and that would have put them out of contention without the mis-click. The car would be 4 stars, the customer relation 1 star, that explains the rating I give them. The car was o.k. overall, albeit with screen wipers in bad shape and surprisingly dirty on the outside, especially in at least two places around the lower frame where you could overlook damage that wasn't on the check-out report. This was Frankfurt Airport, so returning half a mile to the counter and showing them I had done my homework and back to the car took quite some extra time. The pick-up as a whole was disappointing. Being told they would cash in rather than pre-auth the deposit came as a surprise to me—never heard of that before—and my pointing that out sent the agent into a subdued mood seemingly quoting with half a mind from the book he'd been given in training those passages he was himself certain were meant to silence the customer rather than answer his concerns. Also, I was given a paper as to in which area, level, and row I could find the car in the parking lot, with the pre-printed standard Wheego area specifically crossed out and corrected by hand to a new one, while the car was in the crossed-out standard one, as I found out after 15 min of searching. I also never received a check-in report of the car, but immediately an invoice that labeled the deposit as a sum in payment. Plus, a note on the invoice in German Legalese, which luckily I read, required me, if I had to take it seriously, to declare and pay the German value added tax I was paying them, again to my home revenue; which is complete nonsense of course, as the service of providing a rental car is taxable in the country where it's provided. When by e-mail—in German, my mother tongue—I said so and objected to the deposit being called a sum payable, I got an answer only remotely in touch with what I had raised, compounding the sales tax nonsense even more. I then went on showing off that I have a legal background and had a full video of every angle of the car at pick-up and return. This prompted an answer that was a strange mixture of legal text blocks from the hard disk the agent possibly didn't fully grasp herself and a complaint that said I wasn't being constructive and that bordered on the abusive. In the light of what I read here, my guess is that the deposit's being returned to my credit card the very day of the car return has a lot to do with the fact that I had made it very clear that I would go to court in Germany over any funny ideas the company might have which so many users here complain about. So, basically, from the moment that cashing in my deposit took me by surprise to the moment I found it back on my credit card (twice "paying" the foreign-exchange rate that favors may bank rather than me), this was a high-adrenaline rental I am more than unlikely to repeat.

Rented me a car with a near empty tank

Rented me a car with a near empty tank. Supplied proof with photos to the desk via email and to returning attendant. Then they charged me 198 Euro for 44 litres to fill the tank. Thieves. Won't answer phones or return emails.Response to cut and paste reply from Wheego;I have phoned your customer service team and they didn't care. I have emailed your customer service team on more than one occasion. I have received zero replies in return. I have also contacted the booking agent I used. They also haven't had a response. I repeat, your company are thieves. Do you think the thousands of people who have complained about your company on Trustpilot and other review sites are lying? Or just maybe your company really is scum.

Sam the Man !

Customer service from Sam was exceptional. Collected us from Liverpool airport on time, hired a brand new car with less than 500 miles on clock from their offside office. Immaculate condition.Travelled back to London & realised phone was left behind.Sam went out if his way to return it via post as we were unable to collect.Professional & very helpful.I would not hesitate to recommend Wheego - good value for money.

Bad service, unexpected charges

Rented a car for 2 days from Liverpool Airport, UK. Claimed that our credit card for deposit was unable to be taken as the full name wasn’t on the card, only 2 initials and a surname. The only other option was to charge us an extra £60 for the booking and only take £50 as a deposit. Will not be using Wheego again.

Never again..

Rented a car from Wheego at Hamburg Airport mid of September. I did take pictures of the outside of the car. What I unfortunately didn't do, was take pictures of the inside of the car. When delivering the car, a scratch was found in the inner lower doorframe on the passangerside. During the rental periode I used that door only a couple of times to place a (soft) bag in the footwell area. Nevertheless I can't proove that it wasn't me who caused the damage. I sent the requested report to the rental company shortly after the car was returned. Since then radio silence - I haven't received a confirmation that the report was received, I have not received any communication on next steps.. Of course, they are still keeping the 900€ for incidentals.I tried calling them (always routed to the central customer service who can't help), sent numerous emais, but no response. Guess next step is to get a lawyer involved.

Scam Company, Avoid At All Costs!

I rented a car at Hamburg Airport. When inspecting the car at pickup, we noticed 2 damages (scratches) to the car that were not listed on the cars prior damages. We immediately documented this and sent them the photos of it. After returning the car, we have now received a damages invoice of over 500€ for the exact scratches that we found at car inspection! The money has been subtracted from our 900€ deposit, is effectively stolen for a damage we did not cause.I have yet to receive a response to any of my E-Mails and will now have to get a lawyer involved to get my money back... AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Wheego fraud car scratches

I booked a car second time with this company. I found it strange they had my credit card details from before. I checked the car lots of scratches I was advised it was all on the sheet. Poor lighting in the yard I videod as best I could with the 11.30pm arrival. Both staff agreed all was on the sheet. I queried the scratches at the back of the car I was advised it is on the sheet. I was offered insurance for 350e as he was feeling good he would reduce to 300e. I declined as I have insurance for 52e. Company way overcharging. They were not impressed. I arrived at my destination no water in the wipers. They advised today I should have called them. Very dangerous at night no water in the car. I brought the car back spotless and I was advised to take it to the garage down the road it was short petrol. We had filled it same garage 12 years full full. We duly went to the garage and bought 2e worth of petrol. Cutting it fine now with our flight time. On return the lady couldn’t find what ever she was looking for to check the car. Another 15 mins at least I advised we are going to miss our flight. The car is full of dust from the sand in the air. The lady started rubbing the sand off the car and mysteriously found the scratches we highlighted that Fernando and his friend with brilliant English said it’s documented. Now they are charging 1500e if I ever saw a scam multiple scratches. If we had scratched the car we have the insurance not a bother we had it noted. Just so happens they were the topic of conversation in the pub the night before I didn’t believe it. I do now. I am travelling 20 years to Alicante this is the lowest if you don’t buy the insurance they will find that scratch. I will do my utmost to get a law raised for this fraud. How many more people arriving into Alicante are getting caught???
