Scam company — avoid! Wheego didn’t honor my reservation, forced me to pay extra, gave me a damaged car that broke down, and then tried to keep my €900 deposit for damage that was already there. Dishonest and predatory.Edit 8/10/25 after reply from Wheego.I successfully disputed the charges with my credit card provider and would not trust your company to resolve any of these issues. I attempted multiple times to resolve the issue at the time when I was having the problem, and your “customer service” was rude, unhelpful and did not keep any of their promises. Again, do NOT use this company.
Booked a rental for a trip to Warsaw via booking-come. When we arrived, they pushed us hard to buy very expensive insurance, almost the same price as the car rental price. We read reviews on Trustpilot and decided to cancel, lost £150. I wish we had read the reviews earlier. STAY AWAY!
Avoid this car hire company at all costs. Despite their low upfront prices, you’ll end up paying just as much—if not more—than you would with a reputable, established provider. Hidden fees and awful customer service make this a deeply regrettable choice.I booked through Bookings.com and was shocked to be charged double for child booster seats. When I emailed the company to request an explanation, they flat-out ignored my message. I also asked them to release the €200 deposit they had blocked on my card. They claimed it had been released, but my bank confirmed otherwise.I hired the car on 15 August, returned it on 18 August, and as of now, they’re still holding my deposit.Their business model seems designed to maximise profit at the customer’s expense, with little regard for transparency or basic service standards. A quick glance at their reviews reveals a pattern of similar complaints—this isn’t a one-off. UPDATE: Don't be fooled by the response from Wheego below. My deposit is still held by them, and my bank has confirmed again that they have not released it.
This company is corrupted to the core! We used the one in Malaga. Firstly, we arrived almost an hour late to collect our vehicle. It wasn't clean and we had to sit and wait until this was done. Not ideal when you have children. They made me sign the waiver before I saw the vehicle. The damage report showed no damages however when I got it there was a large scratch/dent along the side of the door.Then when we went to return the vehicle, 2 guys were rushing over. One rushed over to the driver's front light and declared there was damage the other was helping to unload our belongings out of it. The first guy started to inform me that I had damaged the vehicle. He pointed out the massive dent in the door and there was also damage to the mirror and the front driver light. I had taken a walk around video which thankfully showed the damage on the door and mirror. The light was harder to see but I believe the worker either did it while we were unloading or knew about it from before. He then estimated the damage to be around 1200 eur then 2 weeks later the quote for the work comes through for that value. A coincidence i think not!
This is the worst car hire company I’ve ever dealt with. Their only aim is to get as much money from their customers, no matter what. They use multiple ways to scam people and pray on fact that you don’t have a choice and get bullied into unexpected fees, which make their services actually very expensive so if you think their prices are affordable you’ll be very mistaken in the end.In our case what was supposed to be a £160 car hire ended up costing us nearly £400 in the end!
Beware of the scam they operate. I booked a car via wheego via enjoytravel.com. When I went to pick it up, they rejected my credit card, even though it works everywhere else. They said they could take it from my debit card, charged me over 400 pounds. Then, they do not return your deposit, and say this was unpgrade because they say your credit card was not working. Taking this to small claims court
Total scam. Nobody at the counter for 1.5h. Just a sign back in 30min. I had three kids under 5 waiting for 2h to get our car during daytime hours. Then they forced an extra insurance or we will not get our car. I showed that it’s voluntary but the guy said it’s the only way. Stay away!!!
Hired a car through a third party site from Rome airport. Meeting instructions were unclear and had to wait outside in the sun on a very hot day to be collected for about 20 mins. Car had lots of minor damage, which we checked with the staff member on their log, and also video-ed around the whole car. They tried to sell us extra insurance at an exorbitant rate which we declined. When we returned the car a week later (no damage or incidents) we were told we were being charged a 'cleaning fee' as apparently the car was unacceptably dirty (it really wasn't, just slightly dusty from driving on hot roads as you'd expect). We queried this as I'd never been asked to clean a hire car before return before, but were told it was 'in our contract.' When I said I wouldn't pay the fee I was told it would just be taken from my fee. It was only when I said I wanted to make a complaint, and my husband refused to sign the return form until they showed us where the cleaning policy was in the contract that they said they would waive the fee.We waited for them to drive us back to the airport and saw the next, unfortunate customer returning his car- he was initially told he would have to pay 600 Euro for a scratch and damage to 2 alloys (which he was adamant he had not done), he eventually battered them down to 350 euro's by accepting the alloys damage but not the scratch. Reading the other reviews (now!) it seems charging made up fees is their business model and we were lucky to get out of it! Avoid.
I used this car rental company for the first time. At the beginning, they did not accept my card for deposit. And force me to apply for full insurance. Secondly, I was late to return a car for a few hours, and Wheego charged me extra 120 euro plus 25 euro additional fee for no reason, which is a way too high for a few hours. As well , they didn't gave me any information related extra fees, only deposit less then it was left behind. Even if they charge me for additional day it would be ok (I rented cheap Toyota Aygo), so to pay 145 euro extra for a few hours it is insane! Furthermore I still can't get an invoice, which is not acceptable at all. Support is not responsive, and I am keep chasing requested invoice, which is really frustrating. It is a last time I am using this rental Company, their policy and attitude to a customer is awful. Legally stealing money for no reason, without any responsibility. I am not surprised why rating is so low... not without a reason. Avoid this rental company!
