Airbnb lost its soul

I’ve used airbnb for many years as a guest in different countries. I was also a host for a few years. Mostly it’s been great, good opportuniites to stay cheaper than hotels and in areas less touristic. Also getting to know people I’d never met otherwhise. A few problems has occured but I can handle that.Recently I’ve had a few issues with bookings and with login and contacted the support team. It’s not been easy and it’s taken a long time to resolve, with messages and phone calls, sometimes confusing what the issue actually is, to some call center in perhaps Bangla Desh or somewhere around there. They’re doing their best I suppose. I just feel airbnb and the idea of what airbnb were standing up for is really unfortunately lost. I do still book rooms through airbnb anyway, because I can usually find cheap places and occationally have valuable encounters with hosts…

This company has become a SCAM

This company has become a SCAM, absent customer service, the higher teams can't do their job, keeping a fake claim open for 2 weeks when the claim is 0 euros, and the host is not giving proofs for 2 weeks this stupid and fake and useless claim is still open. They make money on us but they don't give any customer service! Airbn website is good JUST BECAUSE THE APARTMENTS ARE GOOD but that has got nothing to do with the company, the company has become very bad over the years. 0 customer service, 0 capable people

Airbnb customer service is TRASH

Airbnb customer service is TRASH! I have been an Airbnb host for about 8 years and have been a "Superhost" the entire time so I get a dedicated line to call when I have issues. However, since the company became a publicly traded company the customer service has gone to shit. It is a fight EVERY TIME I call to have an issue resolved. Today the customer service rep refused to let me speak to a manager so today is the day I give up hosting on Airbnb. The money I make from it isn't worth the headache of dealing with the company

Beware! Safety issues with unvetted Airbnb hosts.

Beware!! Don’t use Airbnb. They recently cancelled my Paris accommodation for four nights for my family of five without any notice or detail. I had to contact Airbnb to determine the issue to which they stated there were safety concerns with my planned accommodation!!! This information took over three times contacting the company. The customer service centre seems to be based out of India as the communication both written and oral was very poor and difficult to understand. No resolution has been offered to date. I now have no accommodation for my trip coming up which is difficult to find for a party my size. There are now less places available and prices have shot up. From my experience I have learned there is a lack of security and safety standards for guests . My cancellation was as a result of a prior guests experience unfortunately. I will never stay at Airbnb after this scary experience. You cannot rely on them to assist you.

Our host cancelled our reservation as we were flying out to cancun.Needsless to say that we were not impressed. The owner is named ceasar and has a place listed on airbnbBeautiful beachfrontpenthouse with amazingviewsEntire rental unit in Cancún, Mexico4 guests . 1 bedroom . 2 beds .1bath3.64 . 11 reviewsHosted by Cesar3 years hosting5-min walk to the beachThis home is by Playa del Niño.Dive right inThis is one of the few places in the area with apool.Self check-inAvoid it at all costs. This is the second time that he has left a couple without accommodation or even informing you about the situation. Please do not judge Airbnb for the dishonest and scummy host.On a positive note April with Airbnb went out of her way to make sure that we had alternatives to the rental property and was instrumental in obtaining a credit voucher for the alternative rental property and the difference in price will be refunded to us as per their refund guidelines.Thank you again April for your help with this matter.Thank you. Account Suspended after attacked in…

Account Suspended after attacked in Airbnb.I was literally sitting in an Airbnb rental when the door was kicked in by a drug addict and I was attacked. I effectively defended myself using a kitchen knife.Police arrested the drug addict and concluded that it was a proper self defense. I was released within two hours, only to have Airbnb permanently close my account due to 'safety reasons'.Not only that but they cancelled all my reservations from all my guests for my own home, even though the attack took place in a totally different country and had nothing to do with the listed home.I literally sued and they settled out of court for $4k. They refused to unsuspend the account but said I could open another, so I did.About a month later, without talking to me or explaining, they instantly tossed my guests out again, calling them at 2am and demanding that they leave, then suspended the second account also.

Bedbug nightmare – no protection, no help from Airbnb

I booked what seemed to be a clean and decent apartment through Airbnb – not a cheap place, but one at a normal, fair price. After two days, we discovered small bugs in the bed. On the third day, after a quick Google search, it became clear: bedbugs. We immediately informed the host. Our vacation was ruined – we simply couldn’t continue. We also contacted Airbnb support right away, reporting an active bedbug infestation. The result? A small refund for the affected stay – but all other costs were left entirely up to us.I brought the bedbugs back home with me and had to hire a professional exterminator, which cost over €500. On top of that, I tried countless anti-bedbug treatments while waiting for the exterminator appointment. I had to pay for all of this myself. Airbnb only covers a small amount for laundry – that’s it. They won’t take responsibility for anything else.I had never dealt with bedbugs before and was completely overwhelmed. Airbnb later claimed that I should’ve undressed outside and sealed everything immediately for cleaning – but they never gave me any of this advice, not even when I first reported the issue. We were left to deal with it all on our own.Airbnb provides no hygiene guarantee and takes no real responsibility for the hosts on their platform. No support. No solution. No proper communication. Just psychological and logistical stress – all at your own expense.I trusted Airbnb – and was deeply disappointed.Never again.

Please consider booking through other channels

I have a short term rental and AirBnB has made up 70% of my bookings. At some point in late 2024, the bookings stopped. I am now nearing the summer when my unit is usually very booked in advance, but I have only bookings from VRBO and Booking.com and I am only 30% booked. There is nothing wrong with my listing, no complaints, high reviews, free cancellation, and my prices are lower than comparable units. Yet, my unit is not showing up in search results and AirBnB is not helping me find out why. This issue, which seems arbitrary and algorithm related, could force me to sell which is likely to lead to a big loss of tens of thousands of dollars. I am pleading with them now to let me talk to a manager to help dig into what is happening with their search algorithms and they seem unconcerned.AirBnB takes high fees, has no protection for hosts, and yet expects us to keep using their platform. I am already using other channels and they just don't have the same volume of guests coming through. I implore potential guests to look at other ways to book - try VRBO, Booking.com, Google... There's a lot of options, let's diversify so we don't end up maintaining this monopoly.

The platform is just annoying

The platform is just annoying. From verification procedures to communication, everything about the platform is just frustrating. In my opinion, the entire platform is a complete failure. The only reason it is so widespread is simply that it was one of the first platforms of its kind. The customer service is terrible and doesn’t understand a word. Even the verification process alone takes a really long time. I am thoroughly and extremely dissatisfied with the entire platform.
