Choose other rental company! Rented a car in Zürich airport for a week. Took pictures of the car to be sure Alamo didn’t try to claim anything as their reputation is bad. Getting back and 1,5 week after they now start to claim for damage that already was on the car. Yes they are a bit cheeper than the other but you have to take pictures before and after and expect that they try to claim extra from the customer. Not OK COMPANY POLICIES.
Long waiting time in Stansted until the car is ready even though we showed up in time and no one was there. Then we were rushed through the rental agreement and signed unknowningly a roadside assistance package. We tried to reclaim our money at car return and via mail but no luck. Beware of this untrustworthy car rental company!
Having been stung by a few rental companies in the UK and IE, I have always returned to Alamo, or the National Group. This trip was for a funeral in Bannockburn, and using the pre check check in made the experience easier. Both the staff and the car were like a dream and I cannot fault their service and support. Why? They go through the car with you, both ends and any support during your usage is welcomed.Thank you to the Glasgow hub!
Scammers! They rented me a car with more than 22,000 miles/33,000 km on the tyres (they admitted this when I inspected the tyres with them for the return) and then pretended that a scratch on the aged tyre with a depth of 0.5mm that was there before I took receipt of the car would need to be assessed for costs by their technicians. They said they would inform me of any costs and deduct from my 237 euro retainer. I refused to sign their statement, which said I had damaged the car in an accident - I definitely had not. They then charged my credit card the full deposit before I had even left the office. I'll report it as a fraudulent transaction the moment I get home. I recommend blocking your credit card before returning the vehicle if you don't want to be scammed. Strangely, they were charging another customer for hundreds of pounds of 'damage' as I arrived. Avoid!!Update: The BVRLA dispute resolution service that you are referred to is partly funded by Alamo/Enterprise itself. Hence, very little interest in addressing fraudulent, yet presumably quite profitable, business practices. As you can imagine, BVRLA basically responds that "you signed, you should have noticed any damage, you better suck it up". So be prepared to go a step beyond this, as it is merely there to waste your time.
This company are nothing but scam merchants. Avoid. I handed the car back in perfect order and they were ‘too busy’ to look at it. As we had had no issues they said we could leave the keys in the box. I subsequently got a bill for £1321 for a ‘missing parcel shelf’. This shelf was 100% in the car under the boot floor when we left as we even checked the compartment to make sure we hadn’t left anything in there. The rolled up parcel shelf was in there. Their ‘proof’ is a picture of any empty boot - not even a picture of the compartment it is stored in! Complete scam. I now have to fight with this dishonest company through my credit card as they do not answer ‘claims’ via their formal process - all you need to know to know this is a deliberate scam or why would you not engage and admit your error?
Rented a car for one week out of Alamo Heathrow. Returned Jan 31st. Wound up with some small scratches due to a speeding car that cut me off in a roundabout. All reported on the 24th. Scratches were so minor when returned the car the employee couldn’t see them. He told me they hold a damage charge and the cost would be minor if anything and I would get a refund shortly. Enterprise DRU (parent company) has been holding £2,000 since then and after numerous emails the only response is it takes up to 60 days to process….meanwhile no estimate/proof of invoice for scratch repairs (they probably keep renting out the vehicle and probably charging every subsequent renter for the same thing). So it has been five weeks and I get the same runaround of they are awaiting additional information. What a scam to hold onto money hoping you forget!!Update - After copying the CEO and disputing this transaction via my credit card who needed a detailed invoice showing the cost to repair (vs an estimate) I finally got my refund back! Over two months of follow up.
Pre booked an economy car in Alamo Stansted but it was not available on the day so they gave me a complimentary upgrade with no extra charge. I paid the €240 deposit and off I went. They had agreed to lock in a refueling price per litre the same as all filling stations on the way. The fuel I used was charged to the deposit and cost me €40 which was unreal for the driving I did on the day. Next time I land in Stansted I'll be renting a car from Alamo again. Friendly staff and quick return of the deposit. 5 stars
We arrived in Manchester from a long haul flight to pick up car, having booked from Australia. After a few issues of clarifying the booking, the staff were great - especially Musti and Thomas Carr. Musti made our experience so easy! He was extremely knowlegeable, talking to us to establish our main requirements and made us feel comfortable straight away. Musti made our experience simple.
