I ordered an engine with just over 57 thousand miles on it from Engine and Transmission World (ETW). All seemed to be good. I received my engine in the time frame that was stated by ETW. When the engine arrived at the shop I was impressed. It was clean, painted. shrink wrapped and on a pallet. The mechanic calls me the next day, after the engine has been installed, to let me know there were no valve cover gaskets on the engine (1 hour job). Later that day he calls to tell me there is no oil pan gasket on the engine (4 hour job). The following day he calls to tell me the head gasket is leaking (16 hour job). When I purchased the engine, ETW did not disclose that all of the gaskets need to be replaced before install. After contacting them they explained that there should have been a tag on the engine, when delivered, that stated the work needing to be done before install. Unfortunately the tag also had the delivery info on it, which was face up when delivered, so it was not noticed by my mechanic and was discarded. The gaskets had been removed in the sludge checking process by ETW and the parts were reinstalled without even the old gaskets. The point of all of this is that all of the information on the tag should have been disclosed before purchase and not found out after the engine is installed. The only thing stated before purchase is that the thermostat need to be replaced. Engine-$1,100/install-$800/valve cover gaskets-$75/oil pan gasket-$300/head gaskets-$1,200= $3,475. Knowing what needed to be replaced before install "PRICELESS" I now have 1000 miles on the engine and it seems to bee ok. A perfect example of buyer beware!!!
Took an entire month to recive motor. Customer service was very poor very rude when my wife called for an update on the motor. I should have done more research I was in need of the motor cheap as possible because I was trading the truck off. should have searched a little longer found same motor with less miles for 500 dollars less much closer to my location and would have recieved 3 weeks sooner. I would not recommend purchasing from engine and transmission world to anyone I know
i purchased an engine for my 2000 Saab 9-5 with a v6 from ETW and then saw all the bad reports all over the internet. i was very concerned because i made another mistake besides my lack of research on the company, i gave the wrong "ship to" address.
i immediately sent an email with the new address and it was updated and confirmed that day. first problem, not a problem...
then i began the waiting period for the engine to be delivered. i was somewhat concerned because i had read about people's horror stories about getting their order. however, i did get the email updates showing the expected delivery date. what made me concerned again, was that i never received tracking information for the shipment. however, the engine was delivered exactly the date that it was expected. the engine clearly had been tested, cleaned and painted(although the paint job was poor). the long block arrived complete, wrapped and on a pallet. it still had many parts that were not really part of the long block, but that were valuable and helped with the installation.
all in all, i'm pleased. the engine was shipped as promised and had good compression and no issues. it is running quite well. it's important to install new timing belts, seals and thermostat for the warranty, but these are things that should be done anyway. it's a good thing to have such a long warranty.
I had purchased an engine for an Lr3 Land Rover engine. I had set up delivery and install to an official land rover service dept at Northtown Landrover in Williamsville ny. Upon delivery the dealership service agent contacted me and stated that the engine they had sent me was a Range Rover engine, not a land rover lr3 engine, and was not compatible with my vehicle. I tried persistently to get in touch with someone at Transmission world and was placed on hold multiple times for 45 min or more before being transferred unsuccessfully/ leaving messages on managers and warranty dept voicemail. When I finally did get through to someone, they tried to convince me that the engine I had recieved ( Range Rover) was compatible with the Land Rover Lr3 and that I was to use that engine. End of story. I had the technician from the dealership call multiple times, draft a letter, and an email clearly stating that there was no way that the engine was compatible. That is not even the most of my concern, they did not ship me what I had clearly agreed to purchase online. The total sum of the transaction was $5600. So I pursued my case to get a replacement, the actual engine I had agreed to purchase, and recieved it 2 weeks later. So far I have had the engine in for 2 months and everything seems to be working fine, but I hope I do not have problems in the future because dealing with the people at this company was ultimately the worst service I have had in my life. Unresponsive, unprofessional, and a complete hassle to deal with. I highly discourage anyone to use this site. There are many options to use for used parts out there.
The engine works great and runs great. Shipped clean with plugs in it to protect from damage. Only thing I can say is it seemed to take a while to ship to my location. I guess when the item is big and heavy you just have be patient. I'm very happy!
we ordered the engine on 11/10/14 and finally got the engine on 12/3/14. so almost a month later we got the engine when it said in the paperwork 10-14 business days. I do have to say thou that the engine is a good engine. it was the cleanest used engine i have ever seen.
