Absolutely horrible company who did not…

Absolutely horrible company who did not provide the right car, charged multiple times on things like car seats, etc at pick up even though it was paid for online already- then 3 weeks later decided to try to charge again! Avoid this company like the plague!

Eurocar Woodford branch

Eurocar Woodford branch - under warranty had no problem getting replacement car battery however when I got it home there was no charge! I had to go back to store to retrieve another. They had no testing equipment (multi-meter) and/or understanding on how to use one. Three days later I bought an alternator and was told to pick up the following day. They had the alternator for two days as I was late picking it up only to find using my own multi-meter once again, it was not working! I had to wait a further two hours in the store for a replacement. Years ago, there were trained personnel at the counter with the knowledge and necessary equipment to test products before taking item(s) away however now, the company motto is all about sales. No more interaction, asking questions or seeking advice.... Is that progress? A generous two star rating - Eventually I managed to install items in my car which is now working. However, one of the additional item, the oil filter, I will be returning as it is the wrong size despite, giving my car registration as reference...

Rubbish car, even worse aftercare

Called the company on the phone because I needed a car to go to Europe. I was specific about the requirements and they confirmed that I'd be getting a focus. They even confirmed that in an email.Upon arrival at their Coventry branch, I was greeted with a lesser spec, smaller Fiat instead. This meant I was screwed. The sales guy offered to upgrade me but at a cost meaning my whole 10 day hire was £1000 for Europe and not the £500 as agreed. The car I had was a Peugeot 2008, brand new but full of faults. Firstly, the car was dirty inside and clearly had a smoker in there but I was in a rush and that was soon to be the least of this cars issues.Whilst driving the car kept going into limp mode with no obvious reasons on the dash and nothing coming up on the cars on board diagnostics. Not something you want when driving from Coventry to Verona.Next was the lane assist nonsense which kept picking up old road markings which nearly threw us off the side of the alps late at night. Then it has this annoying thing that bongs every time you drive past a road that has a lower speed than the one you're on.Once this was all mentioned, the person at Coventry didn't care and said he'd never heard of that issue which was no good to me because I was reporting it.***Edited after their response ***I contacted Europcar, as requested below, but have now been given the fob off from their customer services and their complaints team.Because of this, I have docked them a star because they clearly have no clue of customer services at all and I will use Enterprise as my choice again from now on because they uphold their complaints and customer concerns.

Bristol airport Europcar - do not use!

My family and I rented a car for 4 days from Europcar in Bristol Airport. On return, it was checked by a member of their staff who confirmed all was fine. A day later I received an email with the receipt which had an additional £45 charge, with no explanation as to why. I emailed their customer service team who said it was for soiling inside the vehicle and provided photos of the foot area of two seats. There was some dry grass and a little sand, nothing abnormal and certainly nothing excessive. I insisted on speaking with a manager and escalating my query as it was totally unacceptable. The customer service agent simply closed my case saying it was resolved. In addition, when I collected the car the fuel was only 3/4 full, not full as agreed, and there was large black scuff down one side (white car) which foolishly I cleaned for them! We've rented many cars from other Bristol airport rental companies and never had a problem. We will never use Europcar again.

I understood why it is having very low rating

In brief, it is not a honest car hire company.Update on 26Sept: after the communication, they admit nothing for sure, as we had signed the agreement. So, just prepare yourselves to pay extra if you want to have the hire.Long story.booked via rentalcars.com, another low rating company, an automatic was booked. When I was at the counter, the staff told it was not under my name, and the car was not automatic, unless pay extra for it to amend it to be under my name and automatic.rentalcars.com confirmed the booking was under my name and it was booked as automatic. Also, it was funny that the counter staff told me not to trust rentalcars.com, and rentalcars.com CS told me not to trust any staff from rental companies. The counter staff handed me a form of accepting extra insurance and additional drive (who helped me to pay and drove me there) or else no car would be given. At that moment, I had no choice as I needed a car for my journey.

I wouldn't use this lot

I wouldn't use this lot, avoid them like the plague. We had a replacement car for our disability car. This car developed a rattle and was changed on Tuesday. Yesterday the bank contacted us as they said there was fraudulent activity. This lot tried to take £54 from our account. Now the car came with 7/8s of petrol and was returned with 5/8s of a tank of fuel so there was no way it would cost £54. We have had no invoice or notification for this. Trying to contact the Perth branch is a joke, trying to contact customer services is also a joke as they hang up when you ask your question. We've been told numerous times that someone will call us back but still nothing. Absolutely shocking customer service.

Car hire refused and still charged for rental

I had made an online booking for car hire to pick up from Edinburgh airport where I had travelled to with my wife and three children. There was no problems online booking the car, I am a memeber of Europecar and a previous customer and had only rented a car from a different branch around 5/6 weeks prior. We arrived really excited to celebrate or wedding anniversary and looking forward to explore the city. But things didn't go as planned. I went to collect the car and I was refused. I was told that I didn't meet the rental criteria, as they perform credit checks. Even though I am a returning customer I was not aware of this, when I had previously hired from a different branch there was a slight issue but this was to do with blue light card discount, no mention of credit checks at all. And even when I made the books online there was no mention of credit checks. After being refused rental, which I fully understand if that's the company policy and anyone don't meet the requirements then a car would be refused. The staff were limited in branch as to what they could do I understand this also but there was not alot of help given, and knowing I had three children with me. All I was given was a piece of paper with a basic explanation and an email address to contact to find out why. Which I did and I also asked a few questions non of which got answered, one of the questions I asked was to confirm what I had been told in branch that I WOULD NOT be charged anything for this rental, they didn't answer that, all I got in the form of a reply was a breif description about credit checks, non of which are done at the time of booking, and exactly the same letter I received from the branch the day of rental. I asked about being charged for the vehicle ij branch and I was told that the car hire would be cancelled their end and I WOULD NOT be charged anything. I have this morning noticed that I have been charged £102 by the brach still, for a vehicle I could not rent, which is absolutely disgraceful. Be very careful when hiring, you will have to undergo a credit check, which is not done at the time of booking online it's only done in branch, if anything comes up you will not be able to hire and you will be left in a difficult situation and you will also get charged for a vehicle you didn't have. The original price for the car hire was more the £102, it was around £154, but we have still been charged £102. I then on the day had to go around to different rental company's to find a vehicle, which luckily enough I managed to find one with no issues in renting at all, albeit it cost more money but we were in need of a vehicle.

Beware of scams!

I want to share my experience of a “blatant scam” by Europcar to help prevent others from falling victim to such frauds. I rented a car at London Gatwick Airport after booking the car and purchasing a "Premium" insurance policy online with e-Dreams. At the airport counter, the agent informed me that since I already had insurance with full coverage, I did not need to subscribe to any additional insurance. I was also told that a deposit of 700 euros would be charged (something I was already aware of through the contract signed with e-Dreams). In good faith, I signed the required forms on the tablet (the amount indicated was £647, which I believed to be the deposit) and was given a document with the rental and payment details; nothing else was handed to me, nor sent via email (certainly not an insurance policy that might have raised some suspicions). After two months of waiting for the refund of what I thought was the deposit, I was informed, upon my inquiry, that no refund would be issued as the amount charged corresponded to the cost of the insurance I had supposedly subscribed to. Realizing I had signed a document without verifying that the amount (which was not specified) actually consisted of £100 for the deposit and £546 for the insurance policy (this was the final amount charged), I nonetheless filed a complaint with customer service. Their prompt response (only 21 minutes after my email!) stated that since it was impossible to verify what had been discussed verbally, only the signed document held any validity! It goes without saying that all the information regarding the costs and charges was written in such a small font that one would need not just a pair of glasses but a magnifying glass!
