Charged me twice & no refund

Awful experience. I was in the UK to move my mum into care following her strokes and I hired a car from Eurocar. I returned it, with no damage to the car, gas tank full, and got a return receipt as proof of that. I had already paid for the hire and full insurance prior to arrival, so when I queried the additional large charge to my credit card when I arrived back home 2 week later, I discovered they had in fact charged me twice for the one car hire. It has been extremely stressful given why I was in the UK in the first place, but then to have this extra charge on my card, it has caused me no-end of stress. I made a complaint, raised a claim and have heard NOTHING from them. They owe me almost £400 and I have not had any response from their claims team. PLEASE DON'T USE THEM. Unfortunately I am now involving a solicitor which they will end up paying for. Such a simple solution could have been given, with all my paperwork and proof of overcharges, they just needed to refund me. I hate giving bad reviews, but this time it is 100% warranted.

What a Terrible fraudulent company

What a Terrible fraudulent company. I was Given a hired car due to a bus company Damaging my car. When I picked up the corsa if had unbelievable amount of scratches fir a car of say less than a year old body work and wheels totally damaged. Within the hour I Rang the company about all the Damage on the car which was not Discribed on my invoice document the said take pictures of the Damage ( luckily I did plus video footage). When I returned the car I also took more videos and pictures of the car just to be safe. Anyway 2 abd a half weeks later I received and email from a second party company representative if Europe car, They said I gave Damaged the car abd the are assessing the cost and would charge me, I was shocked as I emailed them saying I Reported the Damage that was nothing to do with me. After many phone calls and emails and me sending many mire video and pictures of the Damage they finally admitted the damage was nothing to do with me, To this Day I am still waiting for a Reply that why did it take them 2 and a half weeks to claim damages from me and also with a car with so much scratches why didn't they repair the car before the hire it out to the next customer.

Major rip off. Do not use

Edit 26 May: It is impossible to get hold of anyone on the phone or via email. It all looks professional but there is ZERO customer service. Do not go near this company. For a 6 day hire my bill so far is gbp 400 plus deposit. I feel totally ripped off. I have not been able to drive the car because a tyre had 2 holes in it and no one was interested in resolving the problem. I have been stuck in one place waiting for repairs to be done. There was no spare tyre. I went through Rentalcar.com which is a broker. I was in a difficult situation and had to hire in a hurry for a next day, Saturday, start. I requested a Leeds city pick up and Manchester airport drop off on Thursday. I was charged 233gbp, then 85gbp extra when I went to pick up the car because the ‘different drop off location’ had ‘dropped off’. Plus a deposit which was ok and expected, if large. There was another extra charge for road usage when I picked up the vehicle. Prices are advertised in GBP but my UK credit card was charged in NZ dollars - I’m using an NZ mobile phone and drivers license but there was no obvious option to change the currency quoted/charged in. So then the insurance cover was added - the wording strongly suggests you need their full insurance offer. This was £65 for 6 days. Charging my UK credit card in NZ$ incurred four times unnecessary conversion fees. By now I’m committed and don’t have time (or energy because I’m dealing with a family emergency and really need a good reliable car, right now) to find another supplier so accepted the deal.I booked a 10am pick up. There was a 15’ wait before being able to begin completing the paperwork and pick up the car. The car itself is ungroomed in the interior, and didn’t drive well from the get go. Shortly after leaving the pick up point an alarm appeared saying ‘tyre pressure low’. I did not have time to deal with this immediately. When I called Europcar (the end supplier) two days later, by which time the wheel alignment feels obviously wrong, I waited a very long time for an answer and was eventually shunted through to someone who turned out to be the AA who came out to check the car through their breakdown service. Whilst the AA is always great, I could have called them on my own membership and saved the 30 minutes + waiting for Europcar to answer. So at this point I had no usable car (for which I’ve paid a very expensive total hire rate) and was stuck waiting for a roadside rescue service to help me out with ‘my’ problem. The AA turned up as promised an hour later, removed a nail ‘which has been in there a long time’, did a temporary fix so I could get to some local appointments early the next day (having by now not been able to get to that day’s necessary hospital visit and run other urgent medical-related errands), and booked a new tyre service Kwikfit who replaced the tyre the next day. They found another nail in the tyre and let slip that poor quality tyres on loaned-out vehicles are a common problem with Europcar vehicles. The worst part of this is that Europcar do not answer the phone and even when they do couldn’t give a damn. When I did eventually get through to a customer service agent she was smugly rude by just meeting my concerns with deliberate silence. She finally put me through to ‘the local branch’ (an ad loop telling lies about how great Europcar is) which clearly no one answers) where I was on hold over 30’ before I gave up. Worst customer experience ever. Will never use rentalcar.com or Europcar ever again.

Scammers and steal money

Avoid at all costs! My insurance company gave me a rental car from Europcar for a week in September 2024. Everything went smooth and handed back the car with no issues. After 7 months my insurance company had called me saying that Europcar have put a claim through mentioning there is a chip on the windscreen! They blamed me for it after 7 months which surely doesn’t make sense! You have customers all the time using your vehicle so how can they accuse me for it? They didn’t call me or send me anything and next thing you know I have been charged £619.89 on my credit card out of nowhere without consent. No mention from them for this charge at all. This is fraud!!!! Avoid these scammers! I have called them up and they just mention they have put a dispute in. 1 week later no call back nothing. They have stolen my money!

Utterly deceitful scammers

Utterly deceitful scammers. They convinced my wife to upgrade, claimed it was a discount, but charged us 250 pounds a day, when the same car was listed on their website for less than 200 when I checked later in the day. The desk at Heathrow, led by Shane the manager, are nothing more than con artists who forcefully upsell and trick people into massively overpaying, and the customer service is useless when trying to recover some of the fees. Never, ever rent with Europcar. I had previously had decent experiences but will never deal with them again.Edit: Europcar have replied asking me to contact their customer service, but I already did and they refused to do anything about it

Aberdeen airport hire

Aberdeen airport hire. Friendly staff but added 19% airport surcharge without explaining, claimed I did over 3000 miles extra for a 800 mile rental (did circa 350) and charged me. Claimed I damaged car. To be fair customer services were quite helpful when I provided evidence and I got resolved. For others be super vigilant in taking odometer photos start and end along with a video of the whole car and photos per panel. What a way to treat customers though.

BUYER BEWARE of EUROPCAR RIPOFF TACTICS

BUYER BEWARE if you are thinking about renting a car from Europcar. After reserving and paying for a car rental through a third party before leaving the United States, on arrival in Southampton I presented the 3rd party rental voucher to the Europcar agent who accepted it without comment. He told me, however, that the car I reserved was not available and I was offered an upgrade for £9 a day extra for the 14-day rental period. I accepted this and the agent made out a rental agreement reflecting the upcharge. At no time did the agent in Southampton tell me that the payment we made through the 3rd party would be disregarded and that Europcar would be re-billing the entire rental amount again. However, 4 days after returning the car, Europcar charged my credit card the full rental price plus the upgrade charge. In other words, I ended up paying for the car twice. After calling the company’s customer service three times and explaining the situation by email, my complaint fell on deaf ears. I was finally told that the voucher I presented in Southampton and that the agent accepted and kept without comment had not been applied. To add insult to injury, upon returning the car at the exact time and date stated on the rental agreement (as confirmed by the agent who received the car), I was charged for an extra day after being told the car should have been returned an hour earlier.Apart from being conned out of more than $500, the worst part of this experience has been trying to communicate with a company that is completely deaf to their customers concerns. The customer service rep., who is located somewhere overseas, will let you talk about your problem endlessly and then do nothing about it. Ask to speak to a supervisor: ‘sorry there are none’. I have to assume that using bait and switch tactics to justify ignoring payments from third parties is a common Europcar practice in order to avoid paying fees to those parties.Since we still needed an additional rental in the UK, we discovered Drivalia, which came highly recommended. It is understandable because their rates are half of what Europcar charges and their customer service reps are extremely friendly and accommodating. Hopefully, my own experience with Europcar’s unethical business practices will serve as a caution to anyone in future looking to do business with an ethical car rental company.Review update: In response to Europcar's standard corporate response. We had already contacted Europcar 4 times by phone and email, detailing the complaint. They have either not bothered responding at all or on one occasion were completely dismissive. The attempt by Europcar to act like they care now is nothing more than a laughable PR stunt.

Would have given 0 stars if option

Would have given 0 stars if optionSeems to be a theme about mis selling insurance. I am currently "in conversation" with customer services about added extras I never ordered and I am looking for a refund. I never requested roadside assistance or personal protection but these were added to invoice. This is a scam where they make these additions part of your deposit. It is basically theft.Customer services have now told me that cannot do anything as they were not part of verbal conservation at location - they have said that I should have been offered extras and asked to accept or decline which never happened. So basically buyer should be aware of this practice and scrutinise what you are signing up for and make sure no extras have been added surreptitiouslyI would also beware of premium location surcharge that is added to costs.I certainly will not hire from them again.
