EDIT:Europcar's response below suggests the left-hand doesn't talk to the right. I HAVE BEEN TALKING TO Customer Services, and they won't do anything.ORIGINAL:I hired a van from the Wallisdown, Dorset branch, and the experience was nothing short of infuriating. Almost immediately after driving off, the door sensor alarm started blaring non-stop. No matter how many times I opened and closed the door, the alarm wouldn’t shut off. I was on a strict schedule, so I had no choice but to deal with the unbearable noise for the duration of my rental. I didn’t mention it right away, but when I returned the vehicle, I reported the issue, only to be told that because I had already checked the van back in, I would need to contact Head Office. After numerous frustrating emails, Head Office’s response was to offer me a voucher for future use—as if I would ever consider renting from you again! To top it off, the voucher comes with the delightful note that I can't even use it to hire a van. How utterly ridiculous. The hours of distress caused by that incessant, faulty sensor left both myself and my passenger with searing headaches. As an act of goodwill, I’d expect at least some form of compensation, yet here I am, left with nothing but a sour taste in my mouth. You’ve completely failed to address the issue, and I won’t be returning. And as a side note, I booked for a 2-day rental but returned the van after just one day. Yet, somehow, the staff "forgot" to inform me that the price wouldn't reflect a full refund, not even close to half the cost. It's shocking how careless and dishonest this entire experience has been.BONUS ISSUELow Oil Sensor Warning: To make matters worse, the low oil sensor also activated during my rental. This raises serious concerns about the vehicle’s roadworthiness and the quality of maintenance checks your fleet undergoes before being rented out to customers.
Europcar is an absolute disgrace. The young blonde boy serving us blatantly lied, claiming he was giving us an “extra nice car” without once mentioning it would cost more. At no point were we told about additional charges, yet now Europcar refuses to refund us. Their customer service has been useless, outright refusing to help resolve the issue. To make matters worse, the server had the audacity to lie and say he informed us, even though both of us can confirm he did not. This is nothing short of a scam, and the dishonesty displayed has completely ruined our experience. Do not trust this company—they clearly thrive on deceiving their customers. Avoid Europcar at all costs if you value honesty, transparency, or decent service!
Shameless and dishonest Europcar! My advise to you all is to stay away from this company. They may appear to be competitively priced to begin with, but by the time you see all the nasty extras and hidden charges is already too late. The Customer Support is also in on the trick and they come back to your substantiated dispute with standard automated answers which don't address the problem.I checked in with a prepaid booking voucher and I was offered three options of cars to choose from, all of similar trim level and of the same category. At no point whatsoever was I told that any of these choice might be an expensive "upgrade".No extra charges were ever mentioned. They just appeared on my credit card one and a half months later. This is apparenlty a common and standard malpractise as I found similar complaints in various forums.I guess their reception staff is so commision-driven that they don't mind bending a few rules by lying and hiding charges.A very dishonest company with no customer orientation and no ethos.I wouldnt normally bother writting a review but then I thought if this helps even one other potential customer falling victim to these crooks then is worth the effort.
Avoid this company at all costs! Please avoid using this company particularly the Gatwick Airport Branch. We ordered a car online and when we arrived the car wasn't available which is standard but what I wasn't made aware of was the replacement car was an upgrade that I'd have to pay for. The agent didn't make me aware of the extra cost and got me to sign everything with no explanation and I felt under pressure to do so. Its as if the agents have a target and are paid commission to up sale. Pity I didn't read the reviews before booking this company, hopefully someone reads this and doesn't make the same mistake and goes with some other car hire company!
I confirmed my booking with Europcar Edinburgh over two months ago and I provided all the information for a fast track check out. I have been registered with them for over 20 years. I had rented from them at Stansted as recently as 4 weeks ago. When I arrived they claimed that they could not find a credit check for me on "their system" and completely refused to rent me any car. Remarkable customer relations! I rented from Hertz 5 minutes later. Never again!
I can't believe all the negative experiences people have had with this company. I thought my situation was a one-off. When I arrived at the branch to collect the car, I was told the type of vehicle I selected was not available, the only one available was a fiat 500. I am quite tall person 5'8 so this car was really uncomfortable, nevertheless I accepted as it was only for 2 days, and my next rental was with enterprise (who are so much better, it's like night and day). I can only thank God that I actually took photos of the entire vehicle, before taking it out, honestly, never forget to inspect the vehicle before driving off with it. There was one of their employees staring me down while I was doing this (he looked so annoyed) so I called him over and asked why the tyres had no dust caps, plus I mentioned the same scratches and scruffs the woman who gave me the keys had mentioned. He literally said "don't worry we don't consider those." Upon returning the vehicle, I handed over the keys and they did not inspect the car while I was there, I was told my deposit would be in my account after the woman inspects the vehicle (the same guy I saw when I was taking the pictures and the same woman who gave me the keys we're chatting really in deep conversations) so she was saying I can leave. So I left, the money was returned into my debit card, as I didn't use a credit card, I received a statement of return few days later, and the said I tore/ ripped the two front tyres, funny that because I had the exact same pictures of these "tears/ ripped" tyres from that moment I took the pictures before leaving with the vehicle. A few days later I received another email on Christmas Eve of damage notification of the exact same tyres I photographed. This is by far the least worst experience I've actually read on here. I don't understand why they would release my deposit if they believed I damaged the tyres. There is no way they can charge my bank and just in case they do I've already reported the account I used as stolen/ blocked.
Atrocious. I booked and paid for car hire - needed the car for important meeting journey. Arrived and they would not rent to me because there was a discrepancy in the address. Despite this NEVER being a problem in the past. I had to borrow my wife's car which meant she then had to miss work. This cost me time and £ - useless
