We had Farmers for 18 years and had no claims. on 11/21/2023 we had a garage fire. We called Farmers and they came out and investigated. They said because we have a business they wouldn't cover anything. Meanwhile when the agent came out to take pictures i said we have a business and he said yes i can see that, I then asked him will they still cover everything? he said YES However they did not. I would NOT EVER refer them to anyone.
I would give no stars if possible, but it does not allow it. Before using Farmer's for insurance, we had only had 1 claim that was quickly processed and approved by our prior insurance. Farmers is completely different. We had 2 claims. 1 for our roof, that was denied. They came out, stated "Only hail damage is covered",and denied the claim, though there was water spots on the upstairs ceiling. Result,we paid out of pocket to have the roof repaired, with the adjuster apologizing profusely, but "As much as I want to,there is nothing I can do,because only hail damage is covered". Our second claim was for a water heater failure, which resulted in water damage and mold. After nearly 2 weeks of dealing with no water, multiple contractors, and an extremely irritated family, Farmers denied the claim. They would help with nothing. Thetre explanation was it was not covered. So,we were stuck with an estimate of nearly 20,000 dollars, which our insurance would not help with,at all. Not the water damage, any of the mold,or anything else. If you do insure with Farmers, understand you have the required policy for your mortage, but you have no actual coverage. They will deny all claims regardless of cause or condition. I would not reccomend using them at all.
They allowed my ex husband to cancel our policy, then let him use my money to start his new policy. I have talked to them and say that they can't help me, and I said it was my card my money. They then wanted to change me next to $400.00, because I had gone without insurance for more than 5 days, yet they didn't notify me of what was happening.
Farmers insurance is terrible when you get a new car and try to transfer your previous car’s policy over. They will tell you your premium increased by 5x because of a newer model and try to convince you that your car’s VIN number shows that the car costs double that of what it actually is. And then when you try to cancel your policy they will tell you that you owe them when all your payments were up to date. I was given the run around for a week when I inquired about my monthly payment increase and was told they would investigate and get back to me in a few days but no one did. Who knows what kind of investigations this company does. No one gives you answer for why your monthly payment jumped 3x the previous car’s payment when you bought the exact same car only a newer version of it and it’s just the base model. Each department tells you something different and try to justify why you owe them an extra month’s payment.
I've had Farmers for 4 years, CAR and HOME insurance. Both policies went up considerably upon renewal, we focused on the CAR insurance because it had the biggest impact. It went up by 55% upping our monthly payment by an additional $150. We first received a request to upload documents ( odometer, car pics etc) we did, within 24 hours of receiving the notification. A month later we receive a letter saying our policy will not be renewed at the end of December 23 because we failed to send the documents. ( we have proof we did) So our Local agent stepped in to support. She had no issues reviewing the documents we had uploaded previously but for safety measure, went ahead and uploaded them again. Then a week later we got another letter from farmers, saying they would be canceling our policy " PER OUR REQUEST" at the end of December 23. Once again our local agent steps in and finds out that farmers is saying to just "Write up " a new policy and they will cancel that one. ( i guess so they can justify the gross increase in the premium) Our agent also found out that farmers is not allowing them to add the low mileage discount anymore and it has to be done by the underwriter directly at farmers, so she advised us to call them one more time. we did , the rep that picked up the called refused to transfer me to the underwriting department, citing inability to do anything with this policy. really? and all they could tell us is the the underwriting department never received the paperwork we and our local agent uploaded, and that is the reason for the no renewal notice. Overall, a lame embarrassing response , refusal to let us even talk to the correct department to get more details. When told we didn't request to cancel the policy, they kept PARROTING the same thing. there is nothing i can do.If farmers is going to grossly raise their premiums they should at least have the decency to talk to customers with transparency and not play these gaslighting games. DO BETTER FARMERS.

Different Eras, Same Exceptional Service
Farmers not only prides itself on helping you plan wisely for the unexpected, but also on helping restore order when it occurs, so you can keep moving along the road of your life’s plans.
In 1959 a Farmers customer wrote us a letter of surprised gratitude when his car battery was replaced just an hour after it was stolen. A letter from a couple in 2002 wrote that their Farmers agent and Claims Adjuster “were exceptional in their handling of our grief, what we needed to do, and helpful in many other ways.” That same year, when Hurricane Rita struck Beaumont, Texas, Farmers sent 300 agents to assess damages while policy holders were evacuated. Farmers also donated $100,000 for the city’s emergency operations center and two megawatt generators that restored power to Beaumont. Whatever year or decade a disaster occurs, you can count on us to be there for you.
