Review Time
I rented a car from Hertz for a period of two days. Over my 15 years of driving experience, I have encountered only one time a small chip in the windshield. Remarkably, this incident supposedly occurred during my brief two-day rental with Hertz. It is important to note that the chip was already present when I picked up the vehicle; however, it was not visible in the low-resolution photos provided by the company.Despite my clear assertion that the damage existed prior to my rental, Hertz is insisting on charging me approximately 800€ for the entire windshield replacement. This seems exorbitant, especially considering that such a repair could be completed for around 15€ in a matter of minutes. It is evident that Hertz is attempting to take advantage of this situation and overcharge for a repair that is both unjustified and disproportionately expensive.Reading other reviews it seems to be a common practice. So I hope my experience prevent others from falling victim to such practices. I strongly discourage anyone from renting a vehicle from this company, as my experience suggests they may engage in fraudulent and ilegal activities.---------Update: There is still no response from Hertz. I will start taking this matter to the relevant authorities to report the theft.
I rented with Hertz through a third party Rentalcars. This was the fourth time this year I have used Hertz at Dublin airport this will me my last never again. I booked again because I like to collect the car in terminal and had done so every other occasion - not this time. I met a very rude Hertz agent in Terminal 1 who told me to get the bus to the offsite collection point despite the voucher stating “in terminal”. This guy was beyond rude and unhelpful when I enquired where is the shuttle bus the reply “outside” pointing to the door. We eventually found the bus (no thanks to him) at the rental desk we were eventually given a vehicle, upon inspection the passenger side wing mirror was hanging off (not roadworthy or safe) back into the office car exchanged uponInspection of this different vehicle several areas of unreported damage found - back to the rental office to have this damage noted (more time wasted). We set off for Waterford City when we were nearly there the vehicle oil light comes on - now a visit to the Waterford City Hertz rental site I was told it will be ok.I rang Dublin site making them aware only to be told do not drive this car we will be in touch, this was on a Saturday on Monday morning telephone call received go back to Waterford City and exchange this vehicle. What a complete and utter debacle this rentalhad become and wasted my valuable time. I contacted Hertz Ireland I received the usualdiatribe from their customer services. Be warned they do not carry out thorough checks of their vehicles and you can be rest assured they will charge YOU for any damage you do not note upon collection. Needless to say I will NEVER use Hertz Ireland again appalling company.I have just received an email from Hertz Ireland wishing more information so I have provided them with my booking reference. I am astounded they couldn’t find my details with all of the above information supplied - I believe this is done in the hope people won’t reply and the poor review is then removed by trust pilot. Hertz Ireland customer services want me to email them I find that incredible - I have already been in dialogue by email with a Mr Manning Hertz Operations Director based in Wexford, he sent me the usual copy and paste apology reply. As I have already stated the service was beyond poor and as result a days car hire lost because of their faulty vehicle and not a penny of recompense offered. I am completely done with Hertz Ireland. I have already booked my next rental at Dublin Airport with an alternative company. You have all been warned
I had a pre-paid rental voucher (via Rentalcars) which included Full Protection Insurance (at significant extra cost). Imagine my disbelief when I was subsequently charged for additional insurances and protections that were NOT explained or advised to me at the time of collection. I have rented hundreds of cars over the years and I am not naive or negligent with rental bookings. In this case, I truly believe I was conned by the Hertz rep and I will do all in my power to spread the word with friends and colleagues to avoid such dishonest practise. Hertz is a global name for car rental and they should be ashamed that such fraudulent techniques are allowed. I can see from other recent comments that lots of customers have experienced similar. Do something about it Hertz!
I would give 0 stars if I could. Terrible service - check your credit card statements when you get home. I have relatives in Ireland so frequently fly to Shannon and hire a car. Every time I’m charged additional fees with no explanation, despite returning filled with petrol and on time. Hertz then take weeks to come back with to explain. Completely unethical.
Long lines. Only two people working at the counter, servicing hertz, thrifty and one more. Later one more joined. 18 folks in line! Each customer is taking 10-15 mins each. Others are waiting over 30 mins for keys to their cars (?) Absolute chaos. If id known, I would have taken the train.
I rented a car for 8 days prepaid 260 on 15 September online, when I arrived at the desk I was asked for another 400, 60€ for some glass, tire coverage then 28 per day also 20€ extra as they do not accept debit cards lol.I returned the car on Saturday the 22nd and got charged an extra 259€ and 60€ at 00:00 midnight! Without prior notice or call but they would expect you to call and announce if you’re arriving a bit later or so. Literally bs never going to rent from Thrifty, hertz
Pickup was easy and quick, but the drop off was frustrating. The South Lott Rd Hertz in Dublin closes at 5:00 pm, but no one answered the phone. Despite calling every 10 minutes from 4:15 pm on to get information, they never answered. The website had instructions for after hours drop off, and since we had a reservation for another day (just wanted to not deal with driving and parking in the city), we weren’t in a rush. Upon arriving, a locked gate blocked the entrance, forcing us to return to the hotel and pay to park overnight. The next morning when we did drop off the car, staff was friendly enough but threw up their hands saying there was nothing they could do and that we were mistaken about after hours drop off. This created a very frustrating experience of about two extra hours driving around Dublin Center City figuring out what to do with our car that could have easily been avoided.
