Beware of standard and advanced services at Pep Boys! We brought in a diplomatic vehicle for standard air conditioning service and left with a damaged vehicle, failed fuel pump, ragged running engine, and several thousand dollars in expenses! When the vehicle was retrieved, it was decided to bring it to Herb Chambers Chevrolet of Danvers in order to be properly diagnosed and repaired by experts. Upon retrieval, the vehicle ran abnormally and failed completely at Herb Chambers Chevrolet of Danvers. Certified Chevrolet technicians discovered that Pep Boys had installed the fuel pump improperly—springs detached, dowels missing, unit unseated—causing system-wide damage to the vehicle. It took Pep Boys more than a month to respond, only after threat of legal action. Damages totaled $7,242.43, including parts, labor, and rental car expenses.Strongly suggest you stay away from this franchise – they have inexperienced staff, poor quality parts, limited installation knowledge, minimal quality control, and abysmal communication practices!
Bought tires from them and went to have my tires rotated and even made the appointment way ahead. When I arrived they told me the tire guy quit and the could not rotate my tires...WHAT....Thats mostly what you do.YOU ONLY HAVE ONE GUY.I used to like Pep Boys and have used them for years but over the last 5 years they became DUMB.We won't ever use them again and besides there is a lot better places for tire now.Be glad in the future to see them go out of business.
well better customer service to start. brought my car in for an oil leak it ran just fin. 3000 dollars later only to be told i cant drive the car . sent it a complaint . i was told they would refund some of the money. i am still waiting for that refund .even told the manager when we picked up the car that they messed up something and they were not willing to help me.
I've never been so disgusted in my entire life. The entire process was a nightmare. Store manager Yvonne didn't tell me the forest information first off and she lied saying she was going to a parts store for a part (i came in w a flat tire, and was willing to spend more) but after 4 failed attempts of communication with me no call backs and then Yvonne leaves without any information no one even knows what is casually going glob... then get this, they call me ex husband and not me Also the guy at the corner ARON looks like meth addict and he was one of the most ignorant and stupid person I've ever met. He threw up his hands when i asked for the invoice or estimate and shouted... "all you people just think we're ripping them off. Pathetic!" That's your employee. I will never come back and either will any family or friends I've never felt more disgusted in my life. Oh ya get this my little girl was standing right next to me and heard everything. Just disgusting! What a waste of my time. You all should be ashamed and fired that ARON soon as possible and maybe get the store manager some help and trained
Extremely Disappointed with Pep Boys Baldwin (Store #283)I had a terrible experience at this Pep Boys location. I purchased two new tires in August 2023 along with the Road Hazard Warranty, which is supposed to cover repairs and replace the tire if it can't be safely repaired.Fast forward several months later, I brought my vehicle back because one of the tires was damaged. Instead of honoring the warranty and replacing the tire, they just patched it. Not only was the patch job a temporary fix, but now the tire sensor (TPMS) on that wheel doesn’t work—something that wasn’t an issue before their repair.I paid for the protection plan in good faith, expecting quality service and peace of mind. Instead, I got a patch, a malfunctioning sensor, and a runaround. When I contacted the store about the issue, I was met with little concern and no resolution. If you’re thinking about trusting this location for tires or warranty coverage—don’t. They do not stand behind their work, and their lack of accountability is unacceptable. Take your car and your money somewhere that actually values customers.
I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I never leave reviews, but our experience was so poor that I feel the need to. We took my car in because the AC wasn't working. They indicated we needed a new compressor, which they put in. I noticed a rattling noise started after that but wasn't sure at the time what it was related to.They called my husband a week later to tell us they randomly found a part in their garage that they THINK belongs to my car and may have forgotten to put it back in. It was the return hose from the radiator to the coolant reservoir.....in Phoenix....in June where temps reached 104 that week. Leaving this part out of my car could have been detrimental to my engine and they are really lucky that they didn't need to replace my engine. That ALONE should have been enough for us to get refunded, but we were nice and didn't make a fuss and figured they'd put the part back and we'd go on our way.The rattling continues and we bring the car back AGAIN. Now they tell us the new compressor they put in is defective so they need to put in another one. They do, we pick it up, and we realize it's in fact not blowing cold air at all.So yet AGAIN, we go back and they tell us it must be another defective compressor. The likelihood that TWO defective compressors from DIFFERENT vendors ended up in one car is very low. The much more likely possibility is that they do poor work, especially considering they're forgetting to put vital parts back in cars. They say they'll put factory parts in, but we decided we don't trust them to touch our car anymore. We were promised a FULL refund as long as we brought them back the compressor they put in. We did just that and then after they had their equipment back, they decide to tell us they are only refunding us for the parts and not the $1,000 of labor because we "voided the labor warranty when we went to the dealership."So, not only did they continuously do a terrible job and NOT FIX THE ISSUE, but they misled us by saying we'd get a full refund and then went back on their word as soon as they got their equipment back. The dealership ran a dye test and said the AC system was leaking EVERYWHERE and also indicated that that type of compressor simply did not work for my car because it created too much pressure on the low pressure side.Incredibly poor work and ridiculous customer care. The manager there then proceeded to argue with me that it's not their job to know which compressors may or may not work in certain cars....YOUR WHOLE JOB IS TO KNOW CARS. They seem to operate on the very unethical principle of putting parts in cars and crossing their fingers that it works out.We were more than nice, understanding, and willing to have them continue working on our car after they forgot to put a part back in and after the first defective compressor, but come on, for them to expect that we'd ever let them touch our car again after that is absurd. Not to mention this is during the summer time and this is my AC we're talking about. In total, between dropping off the car and picking it up, we had to go to their store TEN times and still ended up with a non-working AC and now they are refusing to refund us.Whatever you do, DO NOT trust these people with your car.As of 8/4: Since then, after fighting tooth and nail, they agreed to give us a refund, but the District Manager, Ronald Stone, has done a horrible job of staying in touch and updating us on the status of our claim. He told us he submitted a claim a week and a half ago and that he'd send us the claim # the same day. Well, that didn't happen, and we've followed up 4 times to try to get the claim # so that we can check on the status of our refund only to continuously have him ignore us. This place is terrible and not customer focused (or car focused for that matter) AT ALL.P.S. Pep Boys used after market parts and are charging nearly the same price that the dealership uses for actual quality FACTORY parts so it's also a waste of your money.
Whatever you Do, DON'T get your car serviced here.I won't go into the gory details, but they can't follow simple instructions, they are careless, and they wasted half of my day with dumb mistakes; all over a simple oil change and tire rotation.Given this level of incompetence, I'm not even sure they ever did any work on my car at all.The WORST.AVOID!
Visited the Pep Boys Auburn Blvd Citrus Heights location. Horrible experience. Had an appointment at 8:30. After about 20 minutes of my car sitting in the parking lot I asked how long my appointment was going to be. Service tech apparently wasn’t there and I was told he should be there in 10-15 minutes. Full appointment took over an hour for an oil change with a scheduled appointment. Less than a week later I broke down in a parking lot with my 3 year old grandson because of a dead battery. I was not provided this information about my battery at the time of service. I contacted the Pep Boys location to inquire about what the courtesy vehicle inspection consisted of and was informed they check fluids and tire tread and battery. My battery life was bad at the time of service and my fluids were low and not topped off which I was told is part of the service when I spoke to the manager a week later. He was extremely rude and unprofessional and hung up on me. After the call he texted me with the full details of my inspection which showed the battery needed attention. Again, this was not provided at the time of service. He did nothing to attempt to rectify the bad and incomplete service performed. I have since contacted the corporate office and am hoping someone will follow up so future customers can have a better experience at this Pep Boys location. Will also be contacting the Bureau of Automotive Repair on Monday. Someone needs to address the service being performed at this location. Off to buy a new battery!
