Review Time
I was booking a room online for the Westgate Lake Resort, when I received a pop-up offer to save 40% on my purchase. When I called to inquire, I was told that this would involve lunch and a resort tour, which would take about 90 minutes of our time and that no purchase was required, so I decided this was worth the $1000 discount. On the day of the presentation, we arrived and sat in a lounge waiting for more than half an hour. When we were finally given a rep to meet with, we told her from the beginning that we were not interested in purchasing anything. She told us that as an owner with Westgate, we could go to any resort, worldwide, for $203 a week! This seemed too good to be true (spoiler alert: it was!). When she told us that we could pass the benefits down to our children and if we passed away, we would no longer be responsible for payments, we really believed her. For SIX HOURS, we told their staff that we could not afford this, that we had just filed bankruptcy, and that we could not afford a down payment of any amount, but THEY WOULD NOT STOP. They stated this would help us build back our credit. We finally gave in to the smallest down payment because we believed it was the only way out. They rushed us through the contract so fast that we were never told the interest rate on the loan, shown the true cost of ownership, or told about the cancellation period. Now we know the truth and Westgate is ignoring our requests to cancel this. Stay away from them!!! The discount isn’t worth it!
Norman & RobinMy wife and I were out to dinner with our family when we were approached by a Westgate employee and asked to attend a 90-minute sales presentation. Since we were told that we would be given a $100 gift card for our time and there was no obligation to purchase, we felt that we had nothing to lose. This is just where the lies began! This presentation was really more than 4 hours of the most intense sales pressure that I have ever experienced! We were told that purchasing a timeshare with Westgate would be the same as owning a vacation home – we could use it whenever we wanted, we would reap the tax benefits of owning a second home, and the investment would continue to appreciate in value and build us equity over the years. No matter how many times we said that we could not afford this, they continued to push until we had no choice but to make a purchase so that we could leave. At no point we were told that we would pay nearly THREE TIMES the quoted price by the time the loan was complete or that this debt would be passed on to our children in the future. I am absolutely sickened by the way that this company treated us, and I am sure other people as well. Stay FAR AWAY!!!
Westgate needs to do better! My wife and I have been dealing with them ever since we took a vacation to Las Vegas in 2019, where we lured in with an offer of a free mini vacation. With the amount of money that’s been wasted, I could have paid for multiple vacations. The sales meeting was a nightmare. We were kept waiting for 45 minutes before we even started and then sat there for ANOTHER 4 hours for the presentation. The entire time, we expressed that we were not interested in purchasing the timeshare. The sales staff pressured us with lies and increasingly better deals, all while intimidating us by having multiple reps approach us at once, all bombarding us with different things. We were tricked into this timeshare deal with false information. They all told us that we were buying in to a real estate investment, not a timeshare. The value would always increase, yet there is no property and no monetary value attached as we later discovered. There was also a promise of making a profit from the timeshare by renting out the unit but that never happened, due to lack of avbailability. Also, no matter how many times we told them we needed time to process the information, the reps pushed harder by telling us these were one-time deals being offered. In hindsight, that’s an obvious sales tactic. DO NOT FALL FOR IT. In fact, don’t give Westgate the time of day!
Westgate advertised that a Westgate Owner should beware of timeshare resale scams and that as an alternative they have the Westgate Legacy Program, with a "Guaranteed Release Option". That is a lie!!! They only release you if they choose to do so and they do not so choose. And they refuse to explain why.Never, never, never buy ANYTHING from Westgate.
I called twice today to talk to someone about my balance and what was available for us to use. The lady informed me that the package price was $900.00 more then what we was told at the time share meeting. They told me two different things about the amenities we have acquired. The representative was very rude and would not let me talk to a manager. I am very disappointed in this as the presentation was so amazing and gave us wrong information. We have not even got to use this package and already having problems.
Westgate Resorts provides you with nothing but FALSE promises! We were approached by a Westgate rep in Miami that offered us an excursion, lunch, and dinner but instead all we got was some lousy coupons and a lifetime of debt. During the sales pitch they talk about perks like cruises, international travel and even claim that their timeshares can be placed in our trust and could be willed as “real estate property”. The salesman tries and get you to buy additional “perks”, but it’s all lies. We were pressured into buying a timeshare on January 1, 2019! We put down a $300 deposit to stay in a 1-bedroom unit in Kissimmee but later were told we weren’t eligible to use it until December 2020 and after 3 additional deposits. Really??? We paid all this money and had to wait 23 months to use it! We have experienced extreme financial hardships due to covid and when we asked for deferred payments on their extremely high maintenance fees, we were told none would be offered. BEWARE of Westgate Resorts and their shady tactics to try and get you to buy their bogus timeshare. They will hang you out to dry!
Westgate Resorts, where is your integrity? My husband and I were targeted by one of your salespeople in Myrtle Beach. We are seniors and my husband has Alzheimer’s but still your company convinced us to go to a sales presentation in exchange for a breakfast buffet and a weekend stay. When your sales agent met with us, he told us that someone just turned in their timeshare and there was a “great deal” and that we needed to decide fast, or we would lose out! He pointed around the room and said anyone of these people could take this amazing deal right from underneath you. They said maintenance fees would ONLY be $500 a year and now they’ve almost tripled. That was a lie! The maintenance fees have gone up EVERY YEAR. The deal was we could vacation in Myrtle Beach each year because it’s close to our home and we are not at an age we can travel too far. We couldn’t use our weeks in Myrtle Beach, so we had to settle for Turkey Lake, FL. We pay $1,354 per year in maintenance fees but you’ve closed all the amenities and you most certainly are not doing any upkeep on the resorts. Westgate misrepresents what they offer and commits ELDER ABUSE. Our health is diminishing, and you have stolen our Golden Years and dreams of vacationing in Myrtle Beach which is what you promised us!
Westgate is a terrible company to work with! Our presentation/purchase was in Feb 2021, and we are already DONE with them.Their salespeople are pushy liars. Every time we said no to an offer, the deals would get better. Our salesman was RELENTLESS. We repeatedly said we could not afford anything but that didn’t stop them from pushing harder. When that didn’t work, the lies began. The timeshare was presented to us as a real estate investment, and they told us we’d be losing out on easy rental income. Lucky us, we were being offered a “once in a lifetime” deal. When we finally agreed, we had to come back to sign the papers and once we got there, we were introduced to the most unprofessional closing agent. She clearly was unprepared and then rushed us through the signing process and not explaining crucial details that would have had us running out the door.Since owning, we’ve been plagued by issue after issue. Lack of reservations, terrible customer service, not getting the vacation time that was promised, reps not getting back to us, the list of problems have been endless!
Never in my life have I experienced such harassment and pressure. The salespeople at Westgate are manipulative and sneaky. The paperwork for my timeshare was never explained by any of their workers and now I realize I owe over $16,000. I thought I only owed $8,000, but after doing some reading of my contract, I found that to be a lie. I had already paid $12,000 by the time I took my first vacation with Westgate because the availability is non-existent. This company is a joke, and it saddens me they have walked all over me with no remorse. Westgate, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Furthermore, to the “General Public at Large”, the best decision you can make is to avoid ANY type of sales presentations with this company. You WILL GET SCAMMED!
Don’t book anything with westgate.Bought a timeshare resort years ago. We were also lied to left right and centre too. Just read the other reviews and can’t believe there still scamming people.-You can’t sell the timeshare back to them as told in there sales pitch to us. -Maintenance fees go up yearly- There’s no profit to be made as told by sellers. -There’s so many scammers out there waiting to also rip you off. They tell you that they can get you out of this timeshare…… it’s also a lie, so don’t do it.I am currently corresponding Westgate at present as this is the right thing to do, it does feel like we are getting the run around tho but I remain hopeful that we will get out of the contract. Failing this i will return the deeds as previously advised by a uk advice company and not pay them another penny . If successful with Westgate, I will of cause leave a positive Review and update 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. Customer Service can make or break any company.Seek legal advice from a company that is regulated in the UK. Will search on the FCA list to be safe. As I got ripped off recently by another so called legal company unregulated! The struggle is real. Lesson learnt. Never again……
