Do NOT use this company if its the last rental company in the world! Your credit card is not safe with them. This car rental does not give you an option to prepay tolls then charged me over $300 for less than $10 tolls. The most dishonest rental company ever!
Beware of York car Rental. They wanted to charge my credit card $2500.00 for a security deposit. This was not disclosed when I made my reservation on Priceline. The staff at the rental location was terrible. Very unprofessional. Do not use York car rental EVER!
Just like everyone else has said, a total bait and switch scam. The thing that really pissed me off was that American Airlines Rewards offered up this scam of a car rental company in exchange for miles. I arrive to pick up car, and it's nothing but added fees, and outrageous details about insurance. You had to show them your declaration page of your insurance, or buy out of that on a per day basis. I walked out without talking car, and now am formally complaining to AA.
No star if I could, SCAMS, CROOKS, run away from them!!!!!! They told me if I didn't take the inssurance I will not be able to pick-up the car, and they ask me 3000$ deposit. One week ago I rent a suv with dollar, I took no inssurance, and the deposit was 500$. So what happen with York car rental is that I ask them to cancel my booking, the employe at the counter told me that as long as I didn't pick up the car I will be refunded but he lied about it, and I went to Thrifty to rent an SUV. CROOKS
SCAM!!! PLEASE REFRAIN FROM USING THIS SERVICE. They mention everything at the time of picking up the car about going out of province and about insurance(which they make you buy from them at time of pickup) and nothing about how you will be charged for going over 200kms. It is advertised as unlimited mileage and nowhere on the website does it state "charged for excessive KM" unless after you make the reservation and listed as hidden fees. They don't even have their company listed on google maps as so people cant leave reviews. UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNETHICAL BEHAVIOUR.
Rented a car from them and from the start it was an awkward experience. You have to go through the hotel to get to the car rental desk; but there is no clear signage. The car was clean enough, no issues with the rental car itself, but then a few weeks later I notice a $78 CAD charge on my card. I have to call them to ask for a statement of charges and I was told that it was for toll charges incurred ($13.90 CAD) plus taxes, plus a $50 service fee detailed in the contract I signed. Only problem with that is that the contract does not say that at all - there is no mention of taxes on tolls and the part that states there is a $50 service fee says that the fee applies to "each ticket and/or violation". I spent quite some time trying to get them to correct this, but they wouldn't budge and insist their contract says what they THINK it does. I eventually had to get my bank involved to get it corrected. I would steer clear of this rental company as they are stealing $ from their customers.
Don’t be fooled by their low prices. It was not unlimited kms as originally advertised, which came out to be a hefty bill. They also failed to mention that there are additional fees for taking the car out of the province. They also asked for the credit card of the person driving the car which was so strange. Then they said we can’t rent the car unless we purchase their insurance. It took 2 hours before we could get the car out the lot. The staff were so disorganized and rude. They were prioritizing people dressed in suits as the front desk person told me to stand aside as he helps out those people first. I wish I never rented with them. My bill in the end cost an extra $700 for 2 days on top of the original $150 payment I made online.
I booked with this company from England a few weeks in advance. I emailed them before requesting further clarification, if my flights were delayed, but ignored. There were no problem with my flight times so I arrived at Toronto YYZ after 15 hours travelling. I then had to wait almost 40 minutes for the free shuttle bus to take me to their rental desk. The journey stops at other hotels along the route so not direct. On arrival at the rental desk located in the Holiday Inn annex. I went through the paperwork with Gary who then told me my independent worldwide insurance policy was not recognised. I have used this all around the world with no problems for many years, with all reputable car rental companies. Gary then told me I could have the car for over double the quoted price with their insurance. After informing Gary what a swindling and fraudulent company they were I left. Hopefully the people behind in earshot and the hotel reception will remember the exchange.Another 40 minute wait and back to YZZ terminal one were all the professional car rental companies are located. I ended up with a 23 plate luxury sedan vehicle from Alamo. Naturally at on the spot turn up I had to pay a slight premium rate. Being a professional organisation they recognised my world wide insurance policy. I also tried budget and National who also agreed to honour my policy. It is worth noting that all 3 companies I went to were far cheaper than York.My conclusion about York Rentals is that they engaged in unscrupulous skulduggery tactics to reel you in. Even their cars in the Holiday Inn car park looked tired and dirty. I guess that's why they try and sell you breakdown insurance as well. Predominantly If they know you have been traveling across the pond. So I arrived at my final destination that day after 21 hours traveling.Avoid this company at all costs, unless you want to be taken for a ride! Please excuse the pun.

The most horrific customer service my staff and client EVER RECEIVED!!Cathy literally ripped the cell phone for our mutual client hands to scream and yell that she was not getting her way. All of this was on a recorded line and will be sent to Company HQ.The client was so upset by the way he was treated as were my employees that he called as soon as he got into the car to apologize for her behavior and to give us her information to file a complaint in addition to his.We work with EVERY Rental car company out there and I have never seen ANYTHING like this.
