Review Time
Do not rent from this company. I rented from Orlando Int. Airport This was the absolute worst rental company I've ever dealt with. Read the other reviews, they're all the same. This company is TRASH! They fraudulently charged my credit card a month after I rented the car. Customer service is non-existent. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this company.
I booked a car with York through Priceline and nowhere in the reservation did it state their outrageous “requirements.” After arriving in Florida, I called for their shuttle pickup, 30 minutes passed with no one showing up. I called back four more times and they literally picked up and hung up each time. I finally reached an alternative number and was told they’d send a car. An hour after my original call, they finally arrived. That should have been my warning to walk away. When we got to the location (in a sketchy area), they unveiled their bait-and-switch scam:1. Unrealistic insurance requirements designed to make you fail so you have to buy their overpriced insurance ($50–$80/day). They demand liability limits of 100/300/100, collision & comprehensive coverage, the vehicle on your policy must be 2018 or newer, and your declaration page dated within 60 days — or else pay a huge deposit ($2,500) AND still be pressured to buy their coverage.2. Absurd toll packages - $20.99/day just to “activate” their toll transponder (tolls not included), $35.99/day for unlimited tolls, or $25 per toll “violation fee” if you don’t buy a package. This is pure price-gouging when a SunPass Mini costs about $5.Staff was rude, unhelpful, and clearly trained to trap customers into paying far more than what was advertised. Another family walked out at the same time we did after realizing the scam.Bottom line: This is a classic bait-and-switch operation. Hidden fees, shady insurance traps, and predatory toll charges. I will never do business with this company again and strongly recommend you avoid them entirely.
Horrible experience, their agents at the airport said they cancelled my car as the flight was 40 minutes late to land. I prepaid over a 1000 months ago and they lied about there being a shuttle to take me from the terminal. They never gave me another car and said you can either pay for another or leave.Complete scammers. Avoid.
I rent cars fairly regularly and this is by far the worst car rental company I have ever experienced. I would not provide them with even a one star rating but that is as low as it will allow. First off it took 2 phone calls and over 45 minutes before the shuttle ever came for pick up from Orlando International. I used a third party for the rental so it was supposed to be fully paid for. I read through the agreement before renting so there would be no surprises. When I arrived at the rental counter (which appeared to be a storage unit) there was a list of terms and conditions. I had never seen them because they were not the same as was on my rental agreement. I have rental car insurance with State Farm and have always used it with multiple companies with no issues. They claimed my insurance coverage was not good enough for them and they wanted $50/day to buy theirs. After arguing with the representative i finally just agreed to buy their insurance. It was a 4 day rental and having already paid the base rental he told me the total would be $468 more. I asked why and he said they charge another $45/day because I was over 60 years old. Unbelievable! That was enough for me to tell them to take a hike and I wanted a refund. He said he cannot give a refund because I rented from a third party. After wasting over 3.5 hours I left and rented from a more reputable agency for $250 and was in my car on my way in less than 25 minutes. I would not even consider using York ever again. They are second rate and rip off the customers.
READ THE FINE PRINT!I recently booked a trip through Priceline that included a car rental for 7 days. The rental, come to find out is with York Car Rental. After waiting for approx. 45 mins at airport for a York shuttle we were taken along with another family to the lot to get cars. At that moment the guy behind the counter informed us that we needed to use their insurance because they "didnt work with my insurance co" - a large well known company. He went on to explain the policy that he required a $2500 deposit and a charge of $14.99 a day for an "Own Insurance Activation fee” and if my documentation was insufficient I MUST purchase their coverage which costs between $40-$79 a day" He then proceeded to tell to me and the gentleman next to me that they charge a $20/DAY to activate the Easy Pass plus the tolls themselves or give them $35.99 per day for unlimited tolls. I asked if there were a lot of tolls between the lot and my destination - he said there were “ALOT”. Turns out there were only 2. NOTE: These fees were HIGHER THAN THE ACTUAL TOLLS THEMSELVES. Tolls typically range from $3.50-$6.00 each way for my trip.Myself and the Gentleman next to me looked at each other both surprised at these charges/policies. We both walked out and rented elsewhere. The manager said to call Priceline and they would give a full refund. We both wound up back at the airport renting at the airport from Enterprise, had a great experience - got the car I wanted, at a good price without all the extra fees.POST TRIP : After going to York Car rentals website the only place I could find these details was buried in the terms and conditions link during the checkout process. Well yes, they have the terms buried on their website but when booking through Priceline the terms are not at all obvious buried in the “Important Info” tab at the bottom with a link to terms.True, if you dig hard enough, you will find the sordid details. After researching York Car Rental reviews it seems as though this is recurring issue along with others involving York Car Rentals. Yes you will find some good reviews, but this is my experience along with, it seems many others. After waiting on hold with Priceline for 40 mins they got in touch with York Car Rental and said they will give a full refund. Aside from the 45 min wait to straighten this out with Priceline, Priceline was great and offered a full refund. Unfortunately, it is now considered “transparency” to bury details like these in a small link among so much text/info. Many of us have become accustomed to not fully reading all of the terms and assuming or hoping for the best. Lesson learned, be sure to search out and read all those terms and privacy policies.Best of luck all. Hope this helps someone else who may be considering car rental or anything else purchased online - safe travels!!
Terrible customer service. Absolutely refused to fix any of the issues with the rental. Left a review on Google and was met with an extremely unprofessional very dramatic response from the “owner” that follows the formula for any one of their negative reviews.
Total scam, they refused to accept my commercial insurance and made me pay for crappy insurance ($3,500 deductible, even though I have full coverage collision on any vehicle I drive. Then they went on to tell me I would have to pay $25 per toll in addition to paying the tolls. Never again, avoid these crooks at all cost.
We reserved well in advance. Gave them our flight info. No shuttle. No answer on the phone. Rental shuttle from a different company took us to their door, and come to find out they had closed several hours earlier. Now instead of our good price of $250 for the week the “legit” rental agencies wanted $750!!! BEWARE!! Total scam.
