The york car rental service in Tampa is one of the worst car rental service I have ever experienced in life. In Tampa, the YORK rental is away from the International airport where the shuttle took more than an hour to arrive. When we arrived at the station they denied is providing the car
Rented a Toyota Camry from them this past Tuesday.Waited over an hour in line to pick up the car, only 6 people were ahead of me. The employees were very loud and unprofessional....sitting there eating in front of everyone rather than assist them. Trying to cram their insurance down peoples throat when they already had full coverage. Even told one man that he was lying and then he proved them wrong.Last but least I have been trading emails with them back and forth today, they are charging me an extra $12.88 for gas when I filled it up across the street from 7 eleven 10 minutes before dropping car off. I have the picture they sent me showing full. Now they send me a different picture showing 3/4 full. Totally a SCAM strictly principal. I will dispute the additional charges and will send USAA a picture that they sent me. I will never ever rent from them again and will blast them all over social media.
Scam central at that place. Fee on top of fee. Where they do this kind of business at? Definitely not Avis, Hertz, Budget or even thrifty. No wonder they aren't inside the airport. TPA don't want to be associated with that kind of business. Stay away from this place. Oh and Florida residents beware. Because you are a Florida resident you get no unlimited miles and extra charges. What the what???? Wait till I talk about this on my morning.
STAY AWAY...SCAM....I rented with York at YYZ airport through an online booking as their price was cheaper than any of the other car rental companies. During pick up the front counter man was very rude, eating while setting me up with my rental. He presented me with the contract to sign and the price increased by 125%. BEWARE, just because you book and pay fully online, does not mean that's it. The booking said unlimited mileage, but apparently that's not for Ontario residents??? There are hidden fees in the fine print. Will never book with them again. Pay the extra amount and use the well known car companies.
I am writing below about my experience with York Car Rental company. While my claim was covered by my insurance company and have not incurred any losses as a result of this interaction, I was compelled to report these unethical business practices. The vehicle I rented sustained minor damage (classified as such by the rental company in the Vehicle Inspection Report) on the rear bumper. For this minor damage, the rental agency submitted an excessive claim, grosslyovercharging for the damages sustained. The Damage Bill is stratified into three parts.Parts & Labor: CAD 1,096.50This estimate was determined by West Autobody located at 148 Toryork Drive, Unit 2, Toronto, ON M9L 1X6. The estimate includes the cost of replacing a Backup/Signal Lamp Assembly whichwas not identified as damanged in the Customer Vehicle Inspection Report. Furthermore, it is unclear whether the entity providing the estimate is a legitimate vendor - while a quick search on Google Maps does show a business named West Autobody at the address, the entry for the business contains no reviews and no website. Furthermore, searching the phone number [(437) 995 8484]provided on the estimate results in an incomplete website for a different business known as the Westend Kitchen The phone number shown on Google Maps for West Autobody does not match the phone number provided on the estimate.Loss of Use: CAD 1,200.00This is calculated as rate of CAD 150 multiplied by a quantity of 8 to get to CAD 1,200. Assuming that the quantity here represents "days" corresponding with the loss of use, the estimatestates that the company would be left without use of the vehicle for 8 days for damage that their own estimate indicates would require 2.7 hours of labor. Even accounting for availabilityand shipping of any replacement parts, this could be considered excessive. Furthermore, the daily rate of CAD 150 is more than three times the daily cost of renting the vehicle (CAD 46). Even if accounting for lost revenues in terms of the base rental fee (CAD 46) and costs of doing business (e.g., overhead, general administration), a markup of 326% is entirely excessive.Admin Fee: CAD 250.00While it is hard to empirically confirm if this amount is appropriate, note that this fee represents nearly 1.7 times the cost of one day of Loss of Use revenue from the vehicle. Your office may be able to determine whether this is reasonable.
York Car Rental is absolutely HORRIBLE!! We flew into Tampa on 4/19/23 and they don't say they are not at the terminal. We called to be shuttled and they were rude and took 20 minutes. Then we stood in line for another 25 minutes. When we got to the person to assist us, they said we were 30 minutes late and so they canceled our reservation!! They said they "sent an e-mail to request it to be reinstated" but didn't know when it would come through. The gal said she was a supervisor and was super rude and intentionally unhelpful! We had to go across the street and thankfully found a helpful person who gave us a reasonable rate at SIXTH car rental. RUN from YORK....they are horrible!!
Regina Thompson says it all. I wish I read her review before I booked through Hopper. I walked away with no car because I refused to pay the ridiculous fees and excuses for cars. 5 customers in a crazy little office with one slow scamming employee. for over 2 hours and ALL experienced the same thing. Crazy they are allowed to to business. NEVER rent from them or their scan companies.
Bottom Line Up-Front:This company is running a fully fledged bait and switch scam (and have been for several years). They will lure you in through cheap prices online, and then hit you with fee after fee once you arrive to pick-up your car. At this point you have little option given cancellation fees + how far they are from the airport. They know they have you by the b*lls and they squeeze as tight as they can.Don't take my word for it. Look up all their shell company names (see photos for all their names) on Yelp*, including; One Switch (1 star, 100+ reviews) on YelpNextCar (1 star, 150+ reviews) on YelpSurPrice (1 star, 1700+ reviews) on TrustPilot MexRentACar (1 star, 325+ reviews) on TrustPilotRoutes (1 star, 10+ reviews) on YelpThe latest name they go by is York Car Rental. Clearly they just create new shell companies once their older names get enough bad press. They dont even bother to update their signage anymore (the lone exception being their airport shuttle to ensure you arrive where they intend to rob you). A sample of some of the fees they charge; - $100+ a day insurance fee. If you want to use your own insurance and can show full coverage (an insurance binder from a top 5 insurance company, that's not your cc provided insurance), they charge $25 a day to "transfer" your insurance - $100+ for "unlimited SunPass". If you want to use your own transponder, they still leave theirs on, and charge you $20 for every day it registers a toll (despite yours also receiving the toll) plus toll fees. - $100 for not returning the car vacuumed and cleaned (same condition as you received it) - $500-1000 security deposit, despite having primary insurance coverage - $$$$$$$$$$ for any scratches you did not fully document/photograph as being there when you picked up the carTLDR; book elsewhere. *Note, from some basic analysis of review patterns (all 1 star or 5 star) its clear they pay to have fake reviews put up on on various review sites (Yelp is the hardest to do this on). The fake reviews all follow the same format, of naming somebody as being so helpful ("Francisco at the front counter was incredible! He even tickled my huevos!").
