Review Time
I decided to try this company of course due to the lower prices, in spite of the reviews. My initial experience was overall decent, albeit I had to wait an hour for someone to pick me up from the airport as they don’t have an official shuttle—someone from their office picks you up upon calling. The process went ok once at the office, friendly staff, bare bones type of office tho but functional. I got there close to closing and when I left, they were closing up. As I drove off, no sooner than I got on the highway which was not even 2 miles away, the tire pressure light came on. I considered getting off and going back to the rental spot but remembered they were closing up when I left. I had no real “customer service” number, just the number of the contact to pick you up from the airport; and their office close at 5p. I called first thing the next day before I went out to inform of this ands was told it may possibly be a weather issue and as long as it wasn’t deflated it was ok. With other rental companies, I was used to returning when there was a reported issue of any sort and in all my years of renting cars, I’ve never had a tire issue. I was set to provide them a decent review but then I noticed I had a $27 charge on my credit card. Upon calling, I was told that was due to a nail in the tire. I explained the above and was first told that there were no notes about my call. When I mentioned it was that rep (I was speaking to) that I spoke with and have my cell call log to slow I called and how long we spoke, he then said it wasn’t mandatory to create a note. He explained once I drove the rental off the lot, a nail could’ve gotten in the tire—except for one thing- even if that was the case, the light does not immediately come on upon hitting a nail. I drive that car all of three minutes from leaving that parking lot before the light engaged. $27 is not a lot, but from a service perspective and considering the chain of events; along with the fact that I have NEVER experienced this with any other companies, not a good experience.
This was the worst rental car experience I've had in over 20 years of frequent rentals. Initially, they demanded a declaration page from my insurance and insisted on commercial-level coverage for a standard sedan. Despite providing proof of substantial coverage (over $500,000 per person), they rejected my insurance provider and forced me to purchase their insurance. The entire process felt like a scam. The car was also problematic; it had a low air pressure warning as soon as we received it. Despite assurances from the staff that it was "fine" and had been that way for a while, the tire went flat within 20 minutes of driving. When we contacted York for assistance, they were unhelpful and claimed no one was available to help. Attempts to escalate the issue resulted in being hung up on by their team. The customer service was extremely disappointing. I cannot recommend this company.
They charged a $500 "holding fee" and never refunded as they promised. I left 4 voice mails and sent 6 emails and rec'd one terse "wait a week for the refund" email in reply...it's now been a week and the money has not been refunded. Avoid York Car Rental unless you're in the market for never-ending ice-cream headache.
NEVER EVER AGAIN.- York is the worst rental company.I had my worst experience ever with this rental company. We arrived at Denver Airport and wait over an hour for York shuttle, but he never showed up. We called them but they didn't answer their phone. We ended up taking a different shuttle from a different rental company. They dropped us off nearby, but we still had to walk a bit to the York office wich was inconvenient.I booked through Priceline as it was the best price option. But don't be fooled, the price is cheap for a reasons and once you are there they will just digging for ways to get more money out of you.Initially, they wanted to charge me an extra $297.00 for insurance. I was covered by my personal insurance and I also had damage coverage through my Mastercard. So I declined their insurance offer. They refused to proceed. It took me 2.5 hours of hard negotiations with them and finally they lowered to $145.00. In conclusion, they know how to trap and make money later. I spent more time in their office than on my flight from Seattle to Denver.I had my two kids with me and York office is in the middle of nowhere, about 15 min ride from the airport, otherwise, if I was by myself, most likely I would walk away and rent from a different company.
I used Priceline for a car rental in Houston. We got York. I called the phone number 45 minutes after guessing a time of pickup. It took 15 minutes before someone answered. York said they gave my car away because I was a no show. He said they wait an hour which isn't true they are to wait 2 hours. He said they didn't have any more cars. They are still holding on to the money over a week later
We had booked a rental car directly from York Car Rental website 30 days or so before we needed it. They state they offer a free shuttle from the airport to their location but that in correct. You have to take one shuttle to the main rental car area at the airport then call York and they come get you as they are off site, was a huge hassle and it gets worse. We finally arrived at the location to get the car and was informed by the agent that they no longer had the car that we reserved on their website and that they would upgrade us for free. Great, no problem, we just needed a car. So, we continue on and they asked us about the insurance, we declined as we have very good auto insurance as we travel often and we used our Capital One Venture which also offers insurance for rentals. The agent physically got upset and went on for a good 10 minutes on how they would come after us for any damages, on and on and on. I have never in my life seen such a hard sale. We stuck to our guns and said no. We then asked for a receipt and paper work so that we could go out and get the car. The agent replied back, you will get it in a few minutes to your email, heres the key car is over there and pointed. So, any other time we have rented a car they have always walked us out to the car and examined it with us. Not York. We took full video of the car with the time and date showing as sketch as this has already been. Check our email at the end of the day and guess what, no invoice or paper work from York. We try to call them over and over and all we get is a voice mail. So we gave up and just carried on with our vacation. We always like having the paper work to show its a rental in case we are stopped by law enforcement or in an accident. Take the car back and that was a fairly smooth process and again was told would get the invoice emailed and it actually showed up a day later this time. Of course it was incorrect, they billed us $75 for the "upgrade" that was supposed to be free. We have since then spent 10 days calling with no one answering, getting into contact with corporate and them promising a call back and guess what, no one ever has. Check the bbb.org website, York Car Renal has a solid 1-star review for massive shady practices just like this one. Do not be me and start your trip off like this.
First of all - this place doesnt even deserve 1 star. My husband rented a car with York Car Rental through Priceline in Ft. Lauderdale. He returned his car on 9/28/24 and over 2 weeks later still did not have his $500 deposit returned to his account. We called and they send anyone with deposit issues to an email address to dispute it, which they claim they will respond within 24 hours. 72 hours went by and STILL no response so I emailed them again - no response again. I decided to call them and I waited on hold for a live person for 53 minutes! I finally got a foreign lady who said she escalated the issue to the administrative team to push the refund. It shouldnt have had to be escalated at all. The car was returned, it was accepted with no damage. I feel like this place is a SCAM and that they intentionally do no return deposits in hopes you either forget or get tired of waiting on someone to pick up the dang phone! I threatened to have all charges reversed from my bank if I did not receive a refund or call back today. We got the refund today. THere is still an odd amount of $10 and some change we cant figure out why we were charged for. I will NEVER do business with these people again and neither will my husband. I plan to let Priceline know about what kind of place they are sending their customers too as well.
I've never had any issue whatsoever from any other rental company. ..until York. I flew from Boston to Tampa on September 12, 2024 with a return tomorrow, the 17th. I booked through Priceline.com. I've been booking with Priceline for years and, again, never had an issue. My flight coming in to Tampa was delayed slightly, due to lightning in the area and couldn't land right away. I'm recovering from a few surgeries on my spine and hip so, I needed wheelchair service to the shuttle stop. Tampa is International is huge..2 trains to get to baggage and shuttle. By the time I got to the bus stop, it was around 8:00. I waited...waited...until just before 9 pm and started looking for the local York phone number,to get an approx. ETA.No number to be found..I called Priceline, they gave me a number. Called York and got an answering machine with music in the background that was so intensely loud, I couldn't hear the options! I'm not elderly nor hard of hearing. I pressed a number and got disconnected. Ok..as I started to call Priceline again, I was getting an unknown call coming in. It was a young sounding woman from York saying no one was picking me up because I was considered a "no-show" and that my reservation was canceled! What?! My flight was due in at 7:05 pm. That's if it was even on time. She said they were supposed to pick me up at 7:05 pm and they did but, I wasn't there. Of course I wasn't there! Even if my flight was on time I wouldn't have made it there! I said, well, ok, im here now, can someone come get me and we can work something out? No, she said, we're closing right now..but the office isnt supposed to clise until 10 pm M-F.I was pissed! I called Priceline and they said the only thing they could do was cancel that portion which, by the way was only 162.00..the only choice I had was to get a 450.00 vehicle from Enterprise! Last minute..I'm not a wealthy person, so I now had very little available money to play with and won't even get my 162 back for another week or more! Thank you, York for the only hideous experience I've ever had with a rental agency! Scam? I'm thinking so
Horrible customer service, we couldn’t even get the car and we had to get one from a different rental car supplier. This is a scam and I encourage you to not rent from them, and they threatened me with charges because I brought up the fact that they’re a scam.Joel, Hispanic dude with rings was a horrible worker at the front and the manager of the place was the worst employee and the worst I’ve ever been treated.Do not go here it is a scam, and a waste of time to even get to the place which is a couple miles away.I ask the company to replace these guys and be more apparent with their clients.🛑👎👎👎👎👎
Scam. Arrived to pick up car and they asked for utility bill and dmv record. No one carries this on them. When I was able to pull it up on my phone, they said I arrived too late for my reservation and still didn’t give me a car. I prepaid in full through Priceline and they said to take it up with Priceline for a refund. When I tried to cancel with Priceline, they said merchant doesn’t accept refunds for any reason.
