Customer Services style a la Aldiss..

We bought a couple of recliner swivel chairs, the Turin model. We didn't want to pay extra to have them assembled by the store, so brought the boxes home to complete.Ist problem was that being made in China the instructions and illustrations were in very small print. So we made a return trip to find out how to complete step 3. Frustrating, but the store rep was very helpfulReturned home finished first chair, and set about the second with renewed confidence!Opened the box, everything was there, started assembly. Get to a point where a 60mm bolt and nut are used to secure the the reclining mechanism to the squab.Nut won't fit bolt! With temperatures rising we phoned the store (Fakenham) Customer services less than helpful, want to know the part number etc. I said 'As we are already part assembled, easiest thing to do is take the same bolt from another model."Silence. No. can't do that, I will have to refer this and get back to you.Twenty minutes later still no response. so phone again. Same store, different employee. Wants to go through all the details again, but promises they'll get back to us..Half an hour later, no call .Phone up again to say"No matter what we are coming over for the correct bolt."When we got there a very smartly dressed and coiffured lady produced the bolt, as if she was doing us a favour! She actually had the cheek to thank us for coming over! No mention of all the other hassles we had with their customer service system. Aldiss may train their staff to be polite to customers, but efficiency is a part of that. We travelled 52 miles that day just to complete assembly of our chairs, and what should have been a pleasure. Because of that lady's attitude it left a very bad taste in our mouths.

Don’t buy from this company if you want…

Don’t buy from this company if you want your item anytime soon.Still waiting on a furniture delivery, ordered and paid for January, supposed to be delivered end of April, this date was then pushed back 6 weeks! The date has come and gone, no contact from store, we called only to be told it will be July, no apology or anything, basically the employee at the end of the phone said it wasn’t there problem.Seems once they have your cash they don’t care.

Very poor customer care

Very poor customer care, we purchased a sofa and two chairs from this company and from the outset on delivery they looked warn and poor quality. We contacted the company who arranged one of their own assessors to come and see the items. He recommended using a damp cloth to refresh the sofa ! Which is absurd we can’t do this every time we sit on them. The chap was intimidating when we questioned him as reasonable customers would do with sub standard items. The whole experience has been Very disappointing Aldis, I thought you were a fair and reputable family company we could trust. Instead we’ve been let down and intimidated in our own home.

Dishonest sales practices

Good sofas and good value, but dishonest sales practices from staff prevent me giving anything other than a one-star review. We recently purchased a new lounge suite from Aldiss, which was delivered today (ahead of schedule), and the whole process has been pleasant and trouble-free.The reason for the one-star review, however, is the dishonesty experienced from the in-store member of sales staff, who told bare-faced lies in order to try and pressure us into purchasing extended warranties and stain-protection.We were told, multiple times, that the sofas would come with no warranty, and that all we would get in terms of protection would be the twelve months afforded to us by law. If any defects were to occur after that period, we'd be on our own. We were then presented with an eye-watering quote for Staingard protection and extended warranty cover, for a period of ten years. We went away to consider our options and discovered that Staingard:a) Is available at a much cheaper price elsewhere.b) Is no different to a £15 can of Scotchgard spray.c) Has appalling reviews, with a horrendous reputation for trying to deny claims wherever possible. (just Google 'Staingard' and read the reviews for yourself). The icing on the cake was a later discussion with a more senior member of staff, who advised that the sofas we had purchased would come with a ten year structural warranty as standard.Had we opted for the additional Staingard warranty, this would have been utterly useless given that a manufacturer's warranty would have co-existed with the Staingard cover, and would have rendered the Staingard warranty superfluous and invalid. If you are considering purchasing furniture from Aldiss, make sure you do your research when it comes to warranties and, if claims are made regarding a lack of anything other than statutory protections, make sure you check and double-check this and, if the salesperson continues to insist that no warranty exists, have them confirm this in writing. It's a real shame that such underhand trading practices persist in this day and age. Perhaps Aldiss would like to comment?

Cheaper than China if possible.

Bought a dressing table from Aldiss and it was the cheapest made thing ever. The write up had you believe it was solid oak but in fact only the top was oak veneer and that was only about 3mm thick. The rest was cheap and shoddy made in Vietnam. Posted a review on their website but the comments still have to be posted. Contacted them by chat to see how long it takes to publish reviews and got no answer. Watch out for their sales as well. Just looked at a discounted sofa published at £1699. Clicked on it and , surprise surprise,it was £500 more expensive.

Very poor service and customer care

Very poor service and customer care, the item we ordered was delivered after three months and is simply not fit for purpose. The Sizes were different than the store settee we sat on to gauge for comfort, the material is very poor quality. When we gave feedback, they arranged a visit from their representative, who was obviously biased in favour of Aldiss, stating the issue was down to the clothes we had been wearing to sit on the sofa !!! Should we have kept the plastic covering on ?? Unbelievable feedback considering the sofa has had Very light usage. Such a shame we’d always enjoyed shopping at this store never again ! Standards have dropped !!

Experience 5th jan to 18th June finally…

Experience 5th jan to 18th June finally received money in our bank today refunded.Wrong colour item sent two items of same colour ordered 5th January 23 Had to wait for swatch to ensure correct item exchange, lots of e.mails calls.Last week item not expected till end of next month so be 8 months.Decided on refund, left with no furniture as we paid for them to take our old one away, had to buy a second hand one £80 to have a proper seat, they didn’t refund for discard of old furniture. So ended up for their poor performance £120 out of pocket still no recliner and settee £2800 not a cheap sale Only compensation offered is 10% off another order… I asked for compensation but told as they had refunded us they had done as legally required…We went to Aldiss because we thought they were a reliable reputable company…

On our side!!

We ordered a three piece suite from Aldiss (Norwich) in October 2021 and we finally got what we had paid for just before Christmas 2022.So why the five stars? Simple, none of the delays were down to Aldiss, all were down to Parker Knoll. Throughout this sorry tale of woe Aldiss were very supportive, easily contactable, responsive and fought our corner with Parker Knoll with persistence and determination. We always felt they were definitely on our side. This is perhaps something to consider when reading other reviews which speak of delays, it may well not be the store's fault.A special mention for Phillip who sold us the suite and Adam the Norwich store manager who took up the cudgel on our behalf. To summarise; we would happily use Aldiss again but not Parker Knoll.

Good experience.

After trying a few mattresses to make up our mind, we ordered a mattress at the Norwich store. Got it delivered in the advertised timing (a few weeks) by 2 polite men and they put in in the bedroom upstairs. We're very happy with our purchase.

My advice to you is shop elsewhere

My advice to you is shop elsewhere. The Aldiss showroom is purposefully misleading, which means that after five month wait times their expensive products arrive and disappoint. Or in our case they only partly arrive We bought a corner sofa at the Norwich store and after 18 weeks HALF of it arrived yesterday. The store first blamed the delivery, and then the manufacturer. Either way they have no idea where it is or if it has actually been made. We also ordered two comfortable mattresses from the same store that arrived like slabs of concrete. I was told that this is a common issue and we’d need to sleep on both mattresses for a minimum of 30 days and they would soften up. This was a requirement or the manufacturer wouldn’t consider replacements. I’m battling for compensation because this is service based purely on profit with no concern for customer satisfaction.
