Demanding about Unnecessary Privacy Overreach

This is the only insurance broker company that I have encountered that refuses to waive the 20-25 year dive into driving history "requirement". They just straight up wont help you if you refuse to consent letting them go back 20-25 years. Industry standard for most insurance companies is 6 years. That this company is trying to force people to let them go back 20-25 years for every case is a wide over-reach of personal privacy. Insurance companies and brokers seem to be doing whatever they want - to cover their own butts, it is NOT about helping the consumer. They state it's to support you to get better rates - but that does not make sense. Either someone is not explaining things in a way that provides information on how you are protected from them using the information against you, or they are being dishonest. Regardless, terrible customer service as well - no attempt to try to explain so that it is not seen as negative. If it is supposed to "help" you, why do they turn you away for not consenting? They could just not use that information to "help you" and continue to try to find you alternatives, like a good broker would do. Sus.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. One week since the accident and the agent assigned to my claim has not returned any of my phone calls or emails.

A lot of people who can’t speak English…

A lot of people who can’t speak English and don’t even know what they are asking of you. Makes for a very difficult experience and insecurity in whether your policy will be written correctly.

I am very pleased with the highly professional service provided by Brandon, the Personal Insurance Advisor at the BROKERLINK in Calgary. Our discussion today was very friendly and productive. I have received clear answers to all my questions and resolved effectively all issues related to my insurance policy. Many thanks!

Terrible

I rarely write negative reviews, but my experience with this auto insurance company has been frustrating and stressful enough that I feel compelled to warn others.I had multiple at-fault accidents, and they initially quoted me a premium that was manageable within my budget — which was crucial for me as a single parent facing financial difficulties. I appreciated the reasonable rate and agreed to proceed. However, after just two months, they came back with a significantly higher premium and requested a letter from my previous insurer. I immediately explained that I couldn’t afford the new amount and told them I wanted to cancel the policy. Despite several calls and follow-ups, no one gave me a clear answer or offered help. One agent even told me I couldn’t cancel the policy unless I sold my car — which is completely unreasonable. I had ample time to cancel before the new premium kicked in, but instead of honoring my cancellation request, they allowed the policy to remain active — and then charged me over $900 once my paycheck came in. This left me unable to pay my rent and caused serious financial strain. To make things worse, when I reached out again, they put the blame on me — saying it was my responsibility to ensure funds were in my account, even though I had already expressed I wanted to cancel and couldn’t afford the increase. They completely ignored the chain of emails and phone calls I had made.It wasn’t until I spoke with Nordic Insurancethat I was properly informed on how to cancel, since BrokerLink had failed to assist or give me accurate guidance. Now I’m left with a $900 debt because of their negligence and lack of accountability. This company does not prioritize customer service, transparency, or basic human understanding. If you’re looking for an insurance provider that actually communicates, listens, and supports their clients — look elsewhere.

Absolutely Abysmal (non) Service!

This is a slightly edited version of an email I sent this company today. Please take this as your absolute authority to cancel Condominium Comprehensive Policy # XXXXXX as of it's expiry date of September 30, 2025.As a relatively long term customer, I have spent one of the most frustrating times of my life over the last 4 business days trying without success to contact your company by telephone, email or any other way.I had some simple questions regarding my policy. I tried several numbers, several times and remained on hold for at least 30 minutes in each case. A total of at least 3 hours. Not one single human being did I speak to.I tried phoning your claims adjuster, Jane Doe, leaving 2 messages on different days. She has not returned my calls. It was with great satisfaction that I managed to place the insurance (at a lower rate) with a different company. They did answer my calls and spent considerable time with me on the phone. The issue was complicated because we were lacking a 'letter of experience' from your company, among other things. It is almost impossible for me to believe a company of your stature is so abysmal in the area of customer service. But it happened to me.Thank you for your attention to this matter. Please acknowledge this policy cancellation by email. It is the least you can do.Signed.....

Inefficient and incompetent Staff from top to bottom

Giving them one star because there is no option for negative rating. The staff at Brokerlink including managers like Timothy Kauk are as helpless as possible. Despite prompt attempts to cancel my auto and condo insurance, they did not support my cancellation request effectively resulting in a heavy cancellation fee levied on me for delays on their end. As a mediator between Wawanesa and client (myself), their role was to ensure that my first request for cancellation made 2 months prior to the date of renewal was processed timely. But I was told that I need to contact them one month later on a specific date. Note that they did not make a note of my first call on my file. I followed up with a phone call on the advised date one month later and the agent asked me if I had another insurance in place otherwise he cannot cancel my insurance. I did some homework on my end to compare the policies while the agent promised to send me the paperwork for cancellation dated for the renewal date to avoid any cancellation penalties. The agent never sent me the cancellation paperwork. I went away for a vacation and returned couple days before the renewal date. It happened to be a Saturday but I still called and emailed Brokerlink and the same agent but received no response which brought me past the renewal date by one day which was a Sunday. I contacted Brokerlink via phone on Monday (one day past the renewal date) to cancel all my ties with them as I requested two months ago and followed up with another request one month prior to renewal. But the new agent who answered my call that day said there were no notes on my file again. I asked to be transferred to the manager. Enters Timothy K. He was a big zero as well. He started off the conversation with me quoting his agents feedback without asking me the walk him through my experience from the start. When I tried to explain to him in detail my attempts to cancel the insurances so many times he simply denied my attempts. I sent him screenshots of my email and he never responded to those. When I followed up regarding them he said that he has listened to my phone call with the most recent agent and that was good enough. I had had enough of their crap by this time giving me high blood pressure with every attempt, email and call. I had to pay a heavy cancellation for constant goofups, delays, and bandage solutions on their staff's end. Do not trust these people! I would not recommend Wawanesa either because they take advantage of clients transitioning from their 20s to 30s as there is a discount clients get for being a young driver under 30 but as soon as you hit your 29th birthday, they increase the insurance by straight up $90. INSANE.

If I could give minus Stars I would

If I could give minus Stars I would. I had the same insurance broker for almost 20 years. Now I have to use brokerlink. They are liars, I can prove it and are taking advantage of everybody using them. The staff I have had the misfortune of dealing with don't know anything and are not educated in the field they're working in. They are overcharging grossly and I mean grossly!! Again I have proof of this. Then the company I decide to switch to because I cannot stand broker link, they take over that one too..... Unbelievably disappointing. As somebody that has been hit by two other people in Calgary that did not have insurance, I can't believe I'm about to say this but I'm starting to understand why they didn't have any.

Worst company

Worst company. I got cancelled for nonpayment because my bank was compromised and I was in the hospital having emergency surgery found out I have cancer. I called them and they left me on hold, said there is nothing they can do, asked to speak to a supervisor and no one called me back. They sent me a email saying there's nothing they can do, still no supervisor. Someone eventually called me back to say my new quote is 1600 a month from 482. They won't help me send me their conversation in writing nothing.

Goodbye

Not sure how to start, probably best to just say worse Insurance Brokers ever. Complete lack of communication complete lack of consideration and do not follow through with what they say. And different Brokers have different rules they don't follow the same procedure. This is been going on for years and years and I'm just sick of dealing with them, never again.
